Palo or Pirate Night?

Just found out that Pirate Night on our 4 nite double dip is the first nite of Castaway Cay and the night we booked Palo! So upset because I thought Pirate night was during Nassau! Should I keep Palo and skip the dining room on Pirate Night or forget Palo? (this is our first cruise)

Any chance that Palo could open up on another night when we get to the dock?

Thanks,

Well I Would skip Palo for dinner all together. Now I am not a big Pirate fan, but that nights dinner menu is one of my faves. Honestly in my minority opinion Palo dinner on here is way over hyped.

See, I am of the other opinion - I think Palo was much, much better than any of the dining rooms, and the Pirate menu is completely skippable. We're actually going to skip it this year because it was so blah.

If you have your heart set on doing both, it's pretty easy to just go to Wavebands or whichever location they're doing dining changes, and change it to another night.

I would really like to do both. How long in advance do I have to cancel Palo? When I check onboard for a different night and available, is it too late to cancel Palo for the 2nd night? Or do i have to cancel before I leave?

Thanks!

That would not be too late to cancel your Palo reservation.

On our first cruise we did Palo on Pirate night ( we didnt have a clue). Palo is soo worth it. I just wouldnt miss the Pirate party (if you have late dinner at Palo you could).

We loved Palo AND pirate night! That said, I wouldn't skip pirate night for Palo. It's fun and was probably my favorite dining room menu of the week. When you first board (try to get there early), go straight to where they're making Palo reservations and tell them you need to switch your night. Since you'll be exchanging, I think you should have a good chance to get what you want even if it's already waitlisted and this way you don't miss either dinner.

We have 2 boys that we wouldn't want to miss enjoying being pirates-- how do we find out what night is what????

The party is the really great part of the night, but I also wouldn't miss the dinner. I didn't think Palo was really worth it. If you have kids, you will definitely want to be pirates with them!

I'd definitely do both if time allows! If you have late dining, enjoy Palo, and then enjoy the 'fun' in the dining room. (Just have coffee in the dining room. I don't want to spoil it for you, but I'd definitely not miss ANY of pirate night, especially if this is your first cruise.) DH and I always do both. Wouldn't have it any other way.:)

What happens on Pirate night in the dining rooms and what is the special menu?

I don't know when our Pirate night is, but we have Palo booked for a 6pm dinner on our last night. If I find out that is Pirate night, I might want to try and change the Palo date...but I'd like to know more about what goes on...

Thanks.

We had late seating and had Palo scheduled for 6 on pirate night in '06. We had planned to eat at Palo then go to dinner for the activities and maybe dessert, but we were tired and full, so DH just ran in a grabbed the menu and scarves and we took a little nap before Pirate night. There were plenty of empty seats at palo at that time. Also you can check during the day to see if there were any cancellations for that night and be put on a call list if there are. So depending on when your dinner seating is, you can do both so the kids can also enjoy pirate night in the dining room. I don't recall there really being anything special going on. The menu that night was good. (Oh...this was from our cruise in May '08

I'm a 51-yr-old SF who had a blast at Pirate Night. Our family just got back from the 8/10-8/14 Wonder cruise (I will be posting a full trip report on that message board).

Even though I spent a part of the time with my niece (7) and nephew (4) at the party dancing, I really had the most fun partying with the adult friends I met. I'm totally into the whole Disney shtick so I loved the show with Captain Jack and the characters and the dancing and all that stuff. The energetic cruise staff is so entertaining...their enthusiasm and excitement is contagious.

I never went to Palo's because I figure I can always eat at a fine Italian restaurant back home. To me, the point of this cruise was to experience all that Disney had to offer and this party was one of the highlights of the cruise. I had a blast.

And moseying over to the dessert buffet that was set up right next to where we were dancing, was great. Then watching the movie "Pirates of the Caribbean" on the deck under the stars was wonderful.

I wish I was back there right now.

The waitstaff in the dining room (spoiler alert) parades through the dining room (I think before dessert, but can't remember) dressed as piratespirate: with 'A Pirate's Life' music playing.' You'd have to be there! I can't fully describe it.:) It gets everyone in the mood for the fun to be had at the pirate night deck party. I'm not saying to miss Palo. (Well, actually, I am!:lmao: ) Schedule Palo for another night on your NEXT Disney cruise.:thumbsup2

I just went thru this on our double dip in July. Had Palo booked for night 2 which always USED to be "dress up night" figuring that way we'd only be getting REALLY dressed up on one night. I found out about the change at dinner on the first night...so I called Palo as soon as we got back to the room and was able to switch it to the next night. They did not sound like there was any problem with switching. I was sweating bullets tho as I had taken some pirate attire to wear on Pirate Night and didn't really want to wear it to Palo!:rotfl2:

If you haven't left yet then you might still be able to get it switched before you go. If not, just try to get it switched as soon as you get on the ship.

I don't think it's ever on the final night of the 7 n cruises... Pirate Night has a special themed dinner menu / drinks and a deck party up on deck 9 at 9:45. They put on a show...lots of singing & dancing by everyone...capped off by fireworks right above you on the ship!! Some people dress as pirates for the evening!

Pirate party...

We've already decided on Palo by choice (and the deserts above help confirm the decision.) I keep rethinking it but actually think we've made the right choice, we will be out early enough to go to "the party" so we won't miss that but will miss the menu and the entertainment in the dining room.

We may have to go for a few minutes to our regular seating to get the menu ... unless you can get them somewhere without actually being seated? Also would like to get the bandana that you get.

Hmmmm ..

Palo or Pirate night? If it jives with your schedule, I would say to do both!
You cannot compare one to the other except for the simple fact that they are both fan-tab-ulous experiences! :thumbsup2

The service, food, view, and then some at Palo's is absolutely unreal....we dined there last cruise and said that we would have to include it in each one of our cruises from now on! Palo's, without question, is worth the nominal fee they charge...

The Pirates IN the Caribbean party is a freebie, and is a must! Must!! MUST!!! pirate:

The characters, CMs', guests, all play a part by dressing like pirates, acting like pirates and even (ARGH!!!) talk like pirates! Plan to get something like costumes, or patches or anything that you and your family can wear to be a part of it! The fireworks, show, food....I find myself hyperventalating I am so excited to go again just typing this out!!!
It cannot be missed!!! Neither can be missed!! That is just my opinion!

Nite all!
:hippie:

If your Palo reservation is early, keep it and then head up to whatever deck it is for the pirate party. You can have the best of both worlds.

Enjoy!

Thanks ... that's what we were thinking, I'm just hoping now that I can get a menu and bandana without going to the main dining. Have to check that out.

Going to try for the Brunch when we are on board, life is good. :cool1:
