hi :) I am just wondering how sticky they are on dress code in Palo -- are they firm on the "no polo / golf shirts?" Would a short sleeve dress shirt be ok, or does it have to be a long sleeved dress shirt for men?

I think hubby and I have decided to forgo the palo brunch, but we still would like one special dinner for our anniversary celebration

Thanks!

By definition, I believe, a "dress shirt" has long sleeves. I'm getting this from my husband. I told him that I don't see anything wrong with a short sleeved shirt under his jacket. But he pointed out to me that a true dress shirt has cuffs that peep out of the sleeves of his jacket.

I still think, if he keeps his jacket on, he'd be fine with a short sleeved shirt.

Dress code for Palo dinner:
  • Men: Dress pants and dress shirt (a jacket is optional)
  • Women: Dress or pantsuit
  • No jeans, shorts, capri pants, flip-flops or tennis shoes

In the evening a long sleeved shirt in Palo is appropriate and I would say, required if no jacket. I have seen them enforce the dress code at brunch so I would imagine they would at dinner too.

Just clarify, is the Palo dress code different for brunch v. dinner? I don't see any distinction made online, but I've see posts on the boards that give me the sense that brunch is a bit more casual than dinner. We dress up a bit for all dinners in the MDRs because we enjoy doing it, so we're fine with the dress code but are dining with others who will want to dress down as much as they are allowed to for brunch. just confused

on our last 4 night cruise, we didnt plan for a Palo brunch or dinner but changed our mind (we REALLY didnt like the MDRs on Wonder) - for both I wore a Polo shirt and had no issue.

We just came back from our first ever cruise to Alaska.

We won dinner at Palo! I had no big boy clothing at all. So the night before I went up to Palo and explained what I had to wear. They told me polo shirts would be fine the only rules they had was no jeans, no shorts and no t-shirts. This may have been because it was an Alaska cruise, I'm not sure.

So there I was in my runners, cargo pants and red and black checkered flannel shirt similar to what a lumberjack would wear.

Dinner was amazing and defently one of the highlights of our trip.

A polo is allowed. That being said, my own personal feeling on what is appropriate would either be a long sleeved dress shirt OR a polo with a jacket.

We don't have much trouble with the clothes part of it. Our guys wear Dockers type slacks and a button down shirt, likely long sleeve. I am not a girly girl so I usually wear the same Lee dress pants I wear to work with a button down and sweater or sweater vest. Mom has a little more trouble picking something but she can wear slacks and a blouse. We do the Brunch.

Our problem comes in with the footwear. Both of our guys have had foot surgeries and don't wear dress shoes well. My husband had hammer toe surgery and wears all black sneakers as dress shoes at work. My stepdad had two toes cut off in an accident and know wears orthopedic shoes but they are also all black just slightly clunky. Likely they will wear what they usually do and no one will even notice.

But this time my mother in law and my sister in law are coming also. MIL will be in a wheelchair and she also has foot problems. She usually wears Mary Jane style slipons. Not really sneakers but not dress shoes either.

How much trouble do you think we are in?

Shelley, I don't think they look too much at footwear as long as it's not sneakers. You say your DH wears black sneakers. I don't think those will be too noticeable if he wears dark slacks. In your situation with all the foot woes (ouch! poor dears!), you can always drop by before your rez and explain the shoe dilemma to them.

If you wear dress slacks and a nice blouse and/or sweater, like you would wear to church or similar, you should be just fine. Enjoy!

Hmm, I've been to both Palo brunch and dinner. I wore a collared polo shirt, jeans, and sneakers and I got in no problem both times.

Honestly, I can't imagine they will put up much of a fuss over an older woman in a wheelchair's footwear. That would be pretty jerky. My grandmother wore slip-ons because of edema, so I can imagine exactly what you are talking about. My guess is they won't mention it at all. I think a dress code is great for Palo, truly, but I also am a realist when it comes to health issues and how they can affect fashion.

The dress code is enforced, I have seem people turned away and told to go change. A few unhappy couples/groups, but they came back in about 15-20 minutes and were then seated, after being appropriately attired.

While the dress code is enforced, we had a couple in our meet group who were on their honeymoon, and the bride packed all her shoes....and left the bag in the car. All she had was flip flops, and after they explained the situation, they were allowed in. Moral of the story is if there is a reason, Palo will be reasonable.

I always wonder at the 'no capri pants' part...particularly for brunch. On women, capri-length pants can look very nice with a blouse and sandals. Would this be turned away for brunch?

It's sort of hit or miss. Depending on the Palo host. I've seen people turned away with capris, as well as people enjoying their brunch in capris.

Personally, I don't tend to "push the rules" so I wear a nice pants outfit.
