Palo Dress Code Changes?

Not bothered by the change at all. I have gone to brunch at nice restaurants several times in my nicer pairs of jeans. My future brother in law even owns a pair of jeans that all of us swore were chinos. Nope they were dark brown jeans. He wears them to many dinners all around NYC and never looks out of place. For nicer brunches my fiance will wear dark jeans, a dress shirt, and coat (not sure if it is a smoking jacket or what not sure of all the different type of men's outer wear.). He never looks out of place and no his dress shoes don't look silly with it.

Schools, work places, etc. all have the same problem: you can't write "use common sense and follow the spirit of the rule" as an expectation. Instead, a policy is written and a certain percentage of people look for every possible way to push the limits. Surely you work with people like this? Or your kids have classmates like that?

Any attempt to regulate dress is a never ending battle between the nit pickers and the people who buy in to the idea.

To me the change doesn't make any sense. You can now wear nice jeans but no tennis shoes. So you are going to have people wear jeans with dress shoes. So dumb IMO.
There are other shoes besides "dress" shoes that look nice with jeans... like nice boat shoes. DH wears his boat shoes with khakis and a nice shirt to Palo brunch.

I'd LOVE to dress up, but after having baby #3, the only dress I own no longer fits well. UGH! Gotta lost 20lbs in 4 weeks.... Yeah right..... Guess I'm going shopping! Lol
You can easily loose that! Have faith in yourself. Work for it. You can do it.

Here is what I've noticed in the past - some of the "casual folks" (no disrespect intended) dressed in a manner that was less than prescribed when going to Palo. Disney was always lenient with this issue, not wanting to cause a problem to their guests so they bent the rules and allowed those folks to dine. Now, this new code will allow people to dress down even more and bend the rules even more. I think it is a bad idea and don't like the direction this is going. I also don't prescribe with the notion of "if someone showed up in their swimsuit it would have absolutely no impact on me, except maybe a funny story for future conversations". If that was the case, there wouldn't be any dress code at all in any of the dining venues. Palo and Remy should be fine dining experiences which includes a proper dress code.

Great post. :thumbsup2

I'm ok with them changing the dress code in the regular dining rooms. I am NOT a fan for them doing it in Palo. If you can't possibly dress nice for one dinner out of your vacation, just don't book it.

My feeling is PALO is an extra fee restaurant. You do not HAVE to eat there. If you want to eat there and they have a dress code you should abid by it. Not whine because it isn't to your liking and wait for them to change the rules for you. Also it is not fair for those who do desire to have a more dressed up experience have it taken away. I was fine with the MDR code being relaxed but am not pleased with this.

Granted it been a while, but I haven't been shopping at the right places, clearly! :worship:

Edited for autocorrect flub.

Ross! I got 2 dresses.

This one on Amazon is $118.00, Ross $30

I love the idea of the dress code!!! You pay EXTRA to dine there, you aren't forced to....

I have gone to palo a couple of times. Well my parents and wife like to dress up when they go, but I for one don't like the way I look like in dress clothes. I usually wear suit pants, dress shirt and tie. Do to breaking my foot and having to have surgery on it, I find the only think that works well is Skechers. I kinda like the new rule in wearing jeans if the they look nice. What would be wrong with wearing nice jeans and a dress shirt with a tie. I feel like I can be there and enjoy the moment of dining with out being uncomfortable. Times have changed. I guess Disney is doing what it can to make the most money. I know Disney cruises are expensive they you pay to go to palo also. But there is an old saying don't judge someone by the clothes they wear, because it could be the best thing they own to wear, and they could be the most kind wonderful person in the room.. So I found r one don't have a problem of people wearing jeans, and for all the other people who like to dress up, then keep dressing up. I kinda feel like why am I dressing up, is there someone I have to impress. By the way I don't really dress up formal night either. That's just how I am.. These are my 2 cents.

Hi there,

Sorry I was on the eastern Fantasy.

Hope to catch up with you next time.

And yes those Disney ties can get pricey.

AKK

Yo Skipper.....

How was Castaway for you?

The Cabana was awesome!!!!! Now we cant got to CC without one!

See we , we learn something every day. :)
As far as I know ties were NEVER required, I always wore a blazer with a nice shirt, but, I could be wrong....

I really screwed up this cruise with the Palo dress.

Went to brunch with NICE shorts and and collared button down shirt. For some reason I thought nice (golf) shorts were acceptable. I had a brain fart....

Was asked to either put on their trousers or get a pair from the room.

I was so embarrassed because I really thought nice shorts were ok, not sure why i thought that.....

Oh well : )

My wife and I got some kind of paper award from Palo, the assistant chef Alejandro stopped by our table the last night at dinner and delivered it to us. Palo went out of their way our 2nd night at dinner there by making us food off the old menu, for a table of 6! They were the best!!!!

I agree with you about this being a bad idea.

What I dont understand is why they would do this but keep the alcohol policy when so many people got mad. Guess its always down to $$$$$$
Looser requirements for Palo = more guests

Ties are not required, we were on The Wonder in 2013 and my husband forgot a tie, we were going to buy one in the gift shop, when we saw the price of a tie in there, I said I'm going to ask if it's a must before we buy a tie you will never wear again.
We walked up and I asked Drago the manager at the time and he assured us we didn't need the tie, he had on a long sleeve dress shirt and slacks.

The alcohol policy change is definitely dollar driven. I wonder if they kept track of the number of bottles brought on board and did the math to see just how much they were giving away. I've always been surprised that the old policy even existed and stayed in place as long as it did. Regarding the Palo dress code change, that is an interesting thought. Are there less people going to Palo due to the dress code or are they getting allot of negative comments. On the Dream and Fantasy, there is always Remy where you can dine for a "upscale" experience, not on the Wonder and Magic.

I'm just throwing this out here and it may mean nothing, but the past 3 times we have dined in Palo (all at different times in the evening), over half of the restaurant was empty. I was surprised considering how much I read about Palo being booked solid from previous cruisers. I speculated that one reason was one of our trips were during spring break and maybe that had something to do with it. I really don't know though. Maybe the revised dress code is to get more people in the door.

Edit: Looks like others may think the same thing. It's about $$.
