We are going on a 7 night Merrytime cruise on the Fantasy this December. My adult daughter is interested in a cooking class at Palo. I’ve never heard of it. Is this a thing? Can I book when the window opens?

I don’t think it is bookable beforehand (for concierge it may be) but I would ask when you get on board first thing. It’s $279 per person. I believe FSU Girl did a review.

It is bookable in advance for Concierge. I first heard about it being offered in the Concierge welcome email.

I did the Palo Be Our Chef experience for my 50th birthday in March 2019 and it was the most amazing experience. Yes it is $279 per person but you do get a chef's jacket, apron, hat, recipes and photos. Yes, the class is open for concierge guests to book first, and then if it is not full, it is open for other guests. I lucked out when I did my class because there was only 3 of us. I was Platinum, one was gold and one was her first cruise, so as Gold it is possible you might get to do this. An exception to the pre-booking rule was done for me as I was celebrating my 50th birthday so I cannot comment about booking onboard but do know that one of the ladies in my class said she went when she boarded and they told her if there was availability. One thing to be aware of, the class is either on Jamaica day or Tortola day (depending on if you are on an Eastern or Western cruise) and the class runs from 11 am to 1 pm.

Thank you for the great info! I assume it is Guest Services we need to check in with when we board, right? I can’t believe you only had 3 in the class and none of you were concierge. You gave me hope!

I did it, if you click on my honeymoon trip report in my signature I did a review of it. I really liked it, it was very expensive though. We were concierge, but there are 8 spots available and only 4 people in our group. It's not well advertised so it doesn't always fill up. It'll be on a port day, ours was on Jamaica. Definitely try and book when your window opens, you might be surprised to find it available.

That’s great! So, is this something I CAN book when my window opens? Or do I need to go to Guest Services? I’ll try both, of course.

Someone had mentioned you reviewed the class, @FSU Girl , and I tried looking for it. Would you post a link if you have one handy?

Honeymooning on the Fantasy SWDAS

I'm not sure if everyone can book ahead of time, I was concierge when I booked so it was available for me. If it's not maybe try and call? Or go there first thing on the ship to see if there is still availability.

Thank you!! I’m an idiot. I see now that you said to click the link in your signature. You’re very kind for not calling me a moron. Lol!!!

If you are concierge you can book when your window opens, otherwise you will need to check with Guest Services. If I remember correctly, Guest Services can advise you once you board if there is availability but I think concierge has the reservations until the end of embarkation day. As I mentioned, an exception was made for me being able to book ahead of time as platinum due to my milestone birthday.

Yes we were lucky with only 3 people in our class - lots of special attention...they did advise that the week before and the week after our cruise were both at 8 guests (which to me is a lot since the Palo kitchen is not that big).

Does anyone know if this would be done on a 3 nt cruise? We're doing the 3 nt on the Fantasy next month. And DW is gluten free so I guess that's probably a problem. They're so good about taking care of things but I doubt they could accomodate her on this looking at the food items? She would absolutely love this if she could do it so I would like to try to get it for her. Thanks.

The DCL website says "This experience is offered once per cruise in Tortola for eastern itineraries and Grand Cayman for western itineraries while the ship is in port. Attendance is limited to 8 adults. "

I take that to mean it's only available on the Eastern & Western 7 night cruises.
