Palin...Is it too late?

Oh I agree, it ain't over 'till the fat lady sings...Which is why I was conjecturin' about strategery (sorry). But if the race is still close could McCain pull a switcheroo to a more popular republican mainstream candidate at the last minute and get a quick bounce? I mean a last minute switch to Crist might deliver Florida...

Crist no, Christ - maybe.:rotfl2:

It seems to me that with 30 days to go time is running out for McCain to get her off the ticket and salvage some credibility. Is it too late? Or is he, because of his declining poll numbers, going to make a last minute change and hope for a election time bounce?

Note: Obviously if you're a Palin supporter this thread probably makes no sense to you but for those of us just talking politics it's an interesting circumstance.

Funny...I had the same thought about the dem side.

As much as I would like to see McCain win I don't think it would have made a difference on who he picked.

Financially when times get ruff that usually means it time for a change. You can blame any one you want for the bank problems, but when push comes to shove the republicians have done nothing for 8 years knowing there were problems. Were still dependent on foreign oil. Were spending millions of dollars fighting in a country that was of no real threat to us, while letting Afghanistan go down down the tubes. Our national debt is growing by the day. Prices are rising out of site and raises are almost a thing of the past, at least for those who still have a job.

It's time to reign in the corruption and greed in this country, it's time to stop looking the other way, it's time to get rid of Politicians who allow our country to financially become so weak while they benefited.

Yes.

John McCain had much more credibility in Europe without her. Much less press of course, and nowhere near as favoured as Obama, but he was doing better without her. Sorry, Reps

I don't see how that is possible. I would have voted for McCain, regardless of who Obama picked, if McCain didn't choose a religious zealot as his running mate. So there are clearly issues with Palin that caused at least some of McCain's support to erode.

McCain is now defending himself against the reality that he associated with Keating during that scandal. He calls it one of the biggest mistakes of his life, and in saying so he asserts that he isn't making such poor decisions now. However, he chose Palin, so maybe he is simply prone to making such poor judgments on occasion.

Were still dependent on foreign oil.
I don't think this point has been driven home very much in this campaign. I find that strange.

I'm an Obama supporter and I don't see where he has this election wrapped up. I'm hopeful but in no way confident that he's going to win.

Palin's staying in, much to my delight! :thumbsup2

And nope, it isn't in the bag. Lots of things can change between now and November 4. It's looking very good for Obama at this point, but there are still some good toss-up states to win over and get in the D column.

Funny...I had the same thought about the dem side.

Heard the rumor about Biden dropping out? :rotfl: So did I, more than once. The first one said he'd do it on September 12, then it was supposed to be right after the VP debate. Next it will be on November 3, I'm sure! :lmao:

That Biden wold drop out short of a 'catastropic revelation' is, IMO, just silly. I didn't start this thread to say I hope Palin is removed, in fact, as a dem It is my opinion that her strict beliefs and far right politics make Obama's victory that much easier. I was just talking general politics as it is a legitimate and interesting situation McCain finds himself in.

I'm not sure about this, but I doubt major shifts such as changing candidates are allowed once voting starts.

This is a very good point. Ohio is already voting - not to mention the many states' absentee ballots.........

She's here until (hopefully) election day.

Thats exactly how all obama supporters should feel until November 5th.....these republicans have shown they will stop at nothing to win an election. They will even steal an election as they did in florida. These people would rather set themselves on fire then let Obama win....We all have to stay vigilant, and give no ground!!!!

AMEN! We can't let that happen again! :thumbsup2

I think if it were to happen, McCain's success in making the change would depend on the reason given for changing VP candidates and who the new candidate is. Somebody like Romney would give depth to the economic knowledge of the ticket. Somebody like Sen. George Voinovich (former gov. of Ohio and former mayor of Cleveland) would appeal to moderates and strengthen the experience/maverick part of the ticket, but lose the base.

I think McCain has already poisoned the pool; most of the chance he had of recovering moderate support evaporated when he picked Palin, and the rest evaporated when he allowed his cronies to go negative.

My feelings exactly. It's a long month till the election.

A month is an eternity in politics. An unforeseen event (the infamous October surprise) could hurt or help the Obama campaign. There is plenty of time for McCain/Palin to do damage, but if they continue on their current path Obama should be fine. McCain is a victim of self inflicted wounds (his choice of Palin, the fundamentals of the economy are strong, canceling his campaign, just to name a few).

I don't think that McCain will dump Palin from the ticket because she energizes the base as no one else could. With Palin, McCain has people attending his rallies and his campaign gets a lot of press.
