Pal Mickey ??

I purchased a Pal Mickey from the outlet store just because I thought he was cute, and I thought that he may be good entertainment for the kids (DD7 & DS 9) during "down time" in the parks, like waiting in lines, waiting for our food, waiting for shows/parades/fireworks to start. And if they didn't like him, at least I would have fun making clothes for him! (Who says we ever get too old to play with dolls???)

Bottom line - it was the best investment that I could've made for the parks. First, it was a treat for the kids. They loved dressing him up in new outfits every day. (You can purchase outfits at the parks.) I thought about bringing a gameboy or something similar, but we didn't even need it. Pal Mickey did the trick!

Second, he was a great source of entertainment for the kids! They took turns carrying him around so they could be the first to hear what he said. They loved his jokes. They are pretty funny, too. They loved the trivia.

If you do get one, here's my only tip. The velcro in the lanyard doesn't stick too good, so purchase a water-bottle strap from any drink cart in a park and use that instead. They are a bit longer, but at least you won't be dropping Mickey. His "brain" is in his nose, so you don't want to ruin it.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

By chance, how much did you pay for him?

I think he runs $65 at Disney World, but I purchased him for half -price. By the time shipping was included, he was about $43.

Early in the year Mousesavers announced that the outlet stores in Florida had the Pal Mickeys, so that's how I got him. If you go onto the Mousesavers site and do a search for outlet stores, it will bring you to the page. Just call them and see if they still have any. It was last year's model, but it worked just fine for us and all 4 parks last week.

We have a Pal Mickey and during the toddler years, when attatched to a stroller he was Perfect. Now, the kids have to lug him around and he is a lot heavier than he looks, as well as being un-cuddly. He isn't soft and huggable. His limbs are soft, but his body is filled with equipment. Small children may have trouble wearing him around their necks for a long period of time.

We use a carabiner to attatch him to a Small Backpack we use in the parks. He is accessible to use in line, but not hanging around our necks. His notes said he was not to be immersed in water, so we have a Gallon Ziplock bag in which he can reside on wet rides. The back zipper you must open to change his batteries or turn him didn't have a regular zipper pull, but a small ribbon. Ours was lost in a matter of days, so we have fashioned a zipper pull for him with a black twist tie.

He uses 3 AA batteries, and he uses them up swifly when "loved" as much as he is around our house. I gave him a good coating with Scotch Guard Spray, and that was a wonderful decision. He has faced several food related issues and lived to tell the tale. All in all, I think he was a great addition to our family, and unlike some park favorites, such as light up ears, he gets used year round.

we got one for our trip last year. my daughter loved him and still plays with him. he was wonderful for in the lines for my child and others in the lines.

I have to agree with everyone else. Two years ago we took our kids on a surprise trip to WDW. I had a gift for each of them to open when we got to our room. I bought our then 6 yr old son a Pal Mickey. Thinking our then 11 yr old son was 'too old' for Pal Mickey I purchased him one of the Disney Vacation hand-held planner/organizers they sell in the parks. Let's just say by lunch my DH and I decided that another Pal was needed! They both loved it so much! Still do! LOL We take them on every trip. They aren't cheap, but I feel they are well worth it. Plus, the outfits they sell for him are really quite reasonable. About $10.

Have been trying to make the decision to get one or not but after reading these I am sold. I love the idea of the different outfits too. We are going in April and I can get a few outfits on ebayexpress for Mickey for the Easter basket (we dont go with much candy anymore) for the trip.
Thanks!

We bought one but would not do it again. After the first couple of hours , Mickeys constant interuptions became like that of a small child. At points we were tempted to wring his neck:rolleyes1 Needless to say he spent more time in our room than we did.:sad2:

I need some help deciding if we should do Pal Mickey or not? Any opinions?

Pal Mickey, is worth the money. Mickey will tell you things, you might not know about disney. He was very helpful in the Animal Kingdom. I had been through Animal Kingdom 2 times before pal Mickey. I had been passing up things, that I had never seen before. On some of the animals, I knew nothing about, pal Mickey told what they were, and other facts about them.
Then in the Magic Kingdom, and Epcot, he told of a short cut, that saved my feet more walking. Minniemousecat :yay:

What did you use to attach to the stroller? Was it a stroller rented in the parks? My daughter is 6 and rather small for her age. \My concern is if she will be able to carry him. Also, would it work if she is holding him while sitting in the stroller?

Thanks for this tip. As an adult, I think he's not easy to carry with the lanyard that came with him.
One of the main cons I've read about him is that he's not very loud. You have to hold him up to hear him. It didn't bother me though. I love my Pal Mickey and have taken loads of pictures of him at the World.

Two things. First - from what I understand, he is made louder these days. He's very loud if you are in a quiet spot, like waiting for a show to start :3dglasses (DS was having too much fun with him ALL the time!) but not too loud in the noise of the park. We would just hold him up to our ears as we walked and we heard him fine.

Second, if you want to have a bit of fun, check out the Pal Mickey & Friends Adventures & fashions thread. I'll be posting my Mick's time at WDW soon - just as soon as I can post more phots to Photobucket (I'm having an issue with them right now, but that's another story...)

I am 31 with no kids, and I'm not afraid to admit that I LOVE Pal Mickey! :)

I like the idea of putting him on a water bottle strap...we were looking for the Pal Mickey strap but couldn't find it anywhere...

Is there somewhere online to order him without getting a used one from ebay? I wonder if the disney florist could make a basket with one? I was a little confused while looking on ebay as to whether or not it was new and the newer edition.

Does anyone have the instructions on how to use him? I have lost them (shocker with 2 little ones).

We took our PM in June and he didn't talk. Maybe I forgot to do something?

You have to open up the back, inside is a battery box and an on/off switch. He probabbly needs new batteries.
