We will be going to Disney in May with a 4 1/2 and 2 yr old. I just learned about the Pal Mickey. Has anyone used it? Did it keep the kids interested? It sounds good but I'm not sure it is worth the money. Any thoughts?

We bought 2 Pal Mickey's for our last vacation for our boys who were ages 2 1/2 and just 6. We were able to get them quite cheap through some deal I found on the boards, but that's been almost 2 years. The boys DID really enjoy them...and wore them about 1/3 to 1/2 of the time. They were not annoying to have around...fairly quiet speaking, although they were hard to attach to clothing. We bought the older model and it doesn't clip on well to clothing. We ended up putting them on their pin lanyards, but they were quite long...especially on the 2 year old.
If I were to make a recommendation, I would buy one again, but the cheapest model you can find of it. It was good for entertainment purposes, and also it was a nice soft plush for the kids to sleep with at night...therefore eliminating the need to bring other stuffed animals with them!

I bought Pal Mickey on E-Bay back in 2003 for my then 2½ & 4 year old sons. They really were disinterested in it. They couldn't be bothered to hold him and the clip really didn't work with what kind of clothes they wear -- t-shirts and easy pull-up shorts. I guess it was me who really wanted it but we ended up leaving him in the hotel room after the Magic Kingdom. I may try to take him again this June to see if there is any new sparked interest.

I'm wondering too if I should get one. DD is only 2. I think I would like it more than her. And not sure if I want to spend that kind of money on it. I have looked on ebay in the past, but none seemed much cheaper, once you included the shipping.

We bought one last September for DD4(almost 5). My husband was laughing because I wanted the darn thing so much I was brainwashing her to want it! Of course, it didn't take too much to convince her and we all enjoyed him. I try to keep him out of reach most of the time so that he will be usable for our next trip, but now DS18months is totally in love with him too. We are happy with him and would buy him again.

He also tells his jokes and games once you get home. When you go back to visit the park bring him back to the Pal Mickey store and they will upgrade him via scanning his nose!

Have fun on your trip! If you have room in your suitcase let me know, I'm dying for a trip to the world!

Bought mine in November and even my 17 year old son enjoyed carrying him around and hearing what he has to say. I love that he'll give you updates on rides with little or no wait too.

And the raincoat is the cutest!

We got one for DS3.5 last trip. (Ok, who am I kidding, we got him for me!!!) I loved listening to him. DS is more interested in him now at home then he was then, but he will be coming with on this trip!

We bought one for our recent trip in Jan. We ordered our from the Character Warehouse, which is a Disney Outlet. (google them or check mousesavers for a phone #. I was not able to find a website). I called them and they shipped it UPS 2 days later. I think it was around $42 after s/h. We used it all 5 days. My DS likes him and carried him occassionaly, however DH and I really liked him. We attached him to our backpack. He was really informative at Animal Kingdom as he told us all about the animals. In Epcot, he told us about all the countries. It told us when parades were starting in 30 min or so. Short lines etc... Just make sure the first time you enter any of the parks that Mickey is facing forward and his nose is not covered. That way he can update automatically. They no longer scan his nose. We have last year's model, (the happiest celebration on earth -- he's in a tux) and we stopped by the camera shop on the way in for an "update." CM advised they no longer had to do that and instructed us to keep him visible upon park entry. What do you know it worked. He goes with us everytime we go to the park now!!! We even bought him a pirate costume!!!

So you got it for 42 including the shipping and handling!!! Wow! I may try that too! How long did it take to ship?

Thanks for the tip - I just called and ordered mine from the Orlando Premium Outlet store. I can't wait until it gets here! I'm not sure who will be more thrilled with it - me or the kids! DH will just shake his head... That's why I'm not planning on bringing it out until we are there! :rotfl:

I think it only took a couple of days. I think I ordered it on a Sunday night (closing time) and I had it via UPS on Wed.

Good luck to everyone!!! I secretly love him more than my DS!!!

Can you give me the number?

Here's the contact number to order:

Character Premier
(407) 477-0222 Orlando Premium Outlets
(904) 829-0359 St. Augustine
(954) 846-7161 Ft. Lauderdale (Sawgrass Mills)

I used the Orlando Premium Outlet store - they were very friendly and most helpful. The total was $42.94, but it may change a bit for you depending upon where you live.

I can't wait to get it, and we're not going until October!!

I just received my Pal Mickey yesterday. DH wanted to know what was in the box, and I told him something that would make him roll his eyes.

Well, I opened it up and told DH what he did, and DH actually thought it was a good idea! Well, knock me over with a feather!!! And he was even more impressed when I said that PM would automatically download the new information at the first park we enter. (He's a computer nerd and was concerned that PM was last year's model.)

And, PM is very loud! But DH said that it was most likely so he could be heard in the parks over all the noise. Now to buy him some other clothes when we get there..... :rotfl2:

I love having him sit on my desk - in between visits, it's a nice way to remember the magic!

Right now he's on my desk in a Hawaiian shirt, jean jacket and cargo pants...just waiting for our May trip.....

HIS bags are always packed....

How heavy is Pal Mickey? Is he a chore to lug?

I really REALLY want one...but I'm afraid he will end up being just another thing to lug into the parks. My step kids are 7 and 4...I know they would like him...but again...between their waist packs and my "carry it all as the designated pack mule" bag I worry that poor Pal Mickey would get lost in the shuffle! Hmmmm...plus I have this "thing" about talking stuffed animals. They freak me out a little...but it's Mickey...*sigh* indecision...

My step daughter got a stuffed bunny for Christmas. When you push it's tummy it makes a "boing" sort of hopping noise... She opened it and said "Cammie it makes a boing boing noise, but it's not talking...don't be alarmed...":rotfl: My HERO!!! She's a doll and I know she would love it...

dang...I want one...

Mickey is only 11" tall, so other than the batter pack which holds 3 AA batts, there isn't much to him. I put mine on a lanyard and wear him on my shoulder (facing mostly forward so his nose can see the sensors to pick up the signals)...or use the belt clip that comes with him and put him on my waist pack if I want. I haven't had any issues with him being too much to take.

As for the talking - he will shake and giggle a little when he has something to say...and you have to squeeze his belly to hear what it is. So if you don't want to listen, you can just ignore the shake and giggle...

I love him, but I'd check someone else's out before buying him if you aren't sure. I waited 4 trips before I broke down and got him last November...now, I can't imagine not having him. He's a great conversation starter with folks also, because most folks still don't know about him.

I gotta decide in the next couple of days because I leave in a little over 2 weeks. so I have to have him here before that. I just don't have the extra cash right now. Well I do, but not sure . LOL!

I bought one for my then 4 yearold grandson last year. I have to admit that during the day grandma used him more. lol At night DGS would sleep with him and still plays with him now that we are home.
