Pal Mickey?-Would you buy it again

We bought Pal Mickey for our 5-year old daughter last year and she just loved him. She did not even complain about carrying him around the parks - I was sure that I would be carrying him after a few minutes, but it never happened. She has been playing with him ever since (he tells jokes and plays games when not in the parks) and is looking forward to bringing him back to WDW on our next trip. Definitely worth the money!

I bought Pal Mickey for my dd6 and we all thought he was great. I was worried that she would become bored of carrying him around, but she never did.

She was, however, terrified that he would get wet. Everytime a little mist would appear from a 3-d show, or whatever, she would panic. On Splash Mtn. we double bagged him (in a plastic wal-mart type sack) and she was still concerned it wasn't enough... as we went down the waterfall, she doubled over to cover Mickey (bagged up) with her body-- you couldn't even see her on the photo!!! (The funny part was that dh, sitting directly behind her, got it right in the face! He jokes that the water was meant for Mickey!!!)

At $60, he was pretty expensive, however, we planned buying him before we left, and that money was set aside for that purpose. DD realized that THAT was her souvenior, and really didn't ask for anything else.

I'm thrilled to hear that he'll be updated (with new sayings) the next time we go to WDW.... that's pretty neat.

I bought ours on my solo trip- and enjoyed him myself.
Took him back on our 12 day family trip and all the kids enjoyed him. Even my non-Disney type DH thought it was cute/funny at times. Just glad you can repeat the sayings because we sure had to- passing him around to all 3 kids to hear it. LOL But I wouldn't buy them EACH one, that would be too costly plus even though they fought over who got to hold him last time, I'm pretty sure if they each had one they wouldn't want to hold him ALL the time.

We'll be taking him on our next trip and I'm sure we'll enjoy him then. Our clip worked perfectly. Either the kids held him, or I clipped him to my shorts- in front.. so I'd know if he fell off but he never did. The batteries must be different or already used (rented ones sold perhaps?) because the first time I bought it and used it on the solo trip, neglected to turn him off for a month until our next trip and left him on that 12 days also and the batteries never ran down.

Woo Hoo!! Glad to know that I am not the only adult that loves My Pal Mickey. I bought for $60.00 when it first was introduced and there was big push to rent them. I figured we went back enough times a year to make it worth while- so what the heck.
We loved it through the first trip- really getting a kick out of the way he helped us kill time in lines and now I won't go without him. I really wish they could have incorporated something on the Cruises for him and maybe even the waterparks and DTD. They have a great tool in him and they could do so much more.
My 20 year old niece was fighting my DH for it on our last trip. My two favorite places to hear him talk are:
1. Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. He gets scared and tries to talk you out of going on it. It's a scream!!
and
2.Animal Kingdom- Everywhere. He just comes up with the neatest facts and cutest jokes there.

So I guess you could call me one of those YEAH-go for it type gals.


Oh a P.S. from my DH- He said when we got home with MPM (the first time-right after we bought him) he had a dream that MPM was standing over top of him while he was sleeping trying to send subliminal messages about going back to WDW- something like this :"He he he Pal. Isn't time you came back to see me?"
(Sorry my DH has issues but you know what- it worked because we keep going back- HMMMM I wonder if it's because MPM sits on the headboard of the bed right above his head)

If you're not adverse to "hanging" Mickey, you can buy one of those bottle straps they sell at the carts and carry him around that way. It's much easier and quicker to raise him up nearer to your ears when he vibrates than having to constantly unclip and reclip him to your belt.

We bought ours in March, and loved him. My daughter was sick our first day, so my son and I went to MK with Pal Mickey. DS was 9. He had a ball with him - he does not like alot of the rides, so this really entertained him. He did point out that although Pal Mickey was fun, he was not as much fun in the park as his sister! We enjoyed him most in Epcot. Not as noisy and he had alot of facts about each country. I was also impressed that he knew when and where characters were signing autographs.

The electronics inside can't be that large. Perhaps they could make a smaller Pal Jiminy. He could say things like "Listen to your conscience...buy that souvenir, go to that character meal, upgrade your room."

Oh! I'd love it! I want a Pal Jiminy too!

It would be interesting to know more about the technology - for instance, can he actually download new sayings, or are they all manufactured into him? It would be cool if he could download new sound files and spout them off, but not sure how long he would have to be near an access point to do that. This ability would also, it seems, make it easier to have other dolls in the future, which of course would have different voices, mannerisms, and different ways of saying things.

We bought ours first thing on a trip last October and he was gone *poof* off the clip in Buzz Lightyear within an hour (was clipped to hubby's waist - hubby was carrying a dead asleep 2 year old...didnt notice he was gone at first). That is when I realized the magic of Disney when even though they could not find ours, they helped us get a new one! CM's rock!

Moral of the story - be careful with that clip!

He gets new downloads everytime you go through the turnstyles and enter a park. You need to have him out with his nose uncovered (his sensor is in his nose) to get him to "know" which park you are in. He then has park specific information. They are also supposed to be selling different "Pals" soon.

Also, if you dont want him talking, put him in a backpack or turn him off. He doesn't talk if his nose is covered.

I'm going to wait till we get there in June to get ours. If there's the slightest chance of getting a different character or just getting a Pal Mickey that you can dress, I'm going for it!
