DS 7 and 5 think they want to get a Pal Mickey so we are looking at buying a used one on ebay or from anyone who has one for sale. DH thinks the kids will tire of lugging him through the parks and that it will be a waste of money... boys have already said they are ok with selling him or giving him to another child upon return...too bad they still don't rent them as it appears that's all we need. I even looked at "renting" him from a DISER but had no luck there.
For those of you who have had PalMickey tour with you, was he useful and fun? Did your kids carry him willingly, and did the lanyard work on kids? Did he travel well on rides, especially wet ones? Did he drive you crazy?? What is the best way to obtain one, probably used as we can't afford a new one? If you buy a used one, will it not give you the information since it's given the info to someone before? I think I'm sold, but DH needs the hard sell as he writes the checks!!! :)

We had a Pal Mickey that was bought off Ebay. My kids always carried him, even when I wanted to pack him for a little while it was hard to get it away from them. Anyway he was really a nice addition we thought. Fun to listen too and even after WDW he plays games. We are so glad we had him. At night my dd slept with him and still does even after our return home! Good Luck convincing your dh.

I have a "classic" Pal Mickey that I bought on E-Bay. The kids love him at the parks and at home. It is funny to see him peeking out in our photos. He isn't that heavy that you have to "lug" him around. The older Pal Mickey only has a clip. I just put it on my backpack and usually keep him under my arm on one of the straps. We love our Pal Mickey and think it was definetely worth the price.

Thanks for all the evidence to convince dh! I think he looks and sounds adorable!! Any ideas on where I can get one cheap  ?

On my first trip I got one from the mouse. He will give you audio responses
to events, telling you what time it is starting. he tells jokes and he is definitly (sp?) Worth the dough! :earsboy: :earsboy: :earsboy: :earsboy:

classic mickey . Last year I found a post on the budget board about one of the disney outlets selling them for 13.00. I called and had one delivered.
Our DD was 13 and we all enjoyed him very much. We are ging back this Oct. and will bring him again.

How does Pal Mickey work? I understand what he does while you are at Disney. Do you turn him on and off? What does he do at home? Does he just stay off? And how do you reactivate him next trip?

1. He's Mickey.

2. He's small and "cuddly".

3. He talks in the parks about the attractions and events, tells "groaner" jokes* kids love, and plays a couple of simple games.

4. At home, he still tells the jokes and plays the games.

5. See #1.

Which brings up the awkward little point that the "high-dollar" ($70+) "New" 50th Anniversary "Special Edition" Pal Mickey's will soon be...
"Out of date".

The 50th will be over in less than 30 days.
So... will there be a NEW "New" Pal Mickey issued?

Will the 50th Anniversary Pal be able to "tell you" about the two new "Finding Nemo" attractions, the new Monsters, Inc. attraction(s), or the new things we still don't know about?

Will we soon see the 50th Anniversary Pals at the Disney Outlets for $23 or so?

I still have (and use every trip) my beloved "Classic" (first version) Pal Mickey (he still works great, BTW).
I never thought that him not "knowing" about "Soarin'" or "EE" was quite enough reason to replace him.

But, we'll have to see what the next month or so brings that's new on the Pal Mickey front.

Where did you ever find one for $13?? The cheapest I can find anywhere is $50... I really don't care what version it is, but I feel I have searched everywhere. Do you guys have names of other places/outlets I can try?

I got mine from the mouse. With a welcome basket.

The $13 was some kind of closeout-type thing I think. It was several months ago, and by the time I found out about it, they were all gone, of course!

if anyone finds one...let me know. We leave in less than 3 weeks!! :cheer2: Older ds has his heart set on it.

I plan on buying one for a "family gift" for Christmas. Thanks for all the replies here that make me feel like it is a good purchase! :thumbsup2

I did check the prices on the 50th anniversary ones yesterday when at WDW to see if they were on sale like some other 50th anniversary merchandise is. Unfortunately it is not, but I would think they will be coming out with a new one and it will end up at outlets, etc for a lower price very soon.
