Pal Mickey old vs new

I have been considering buying on line a Pal Mickey before we go for my dd, but I was wondering is there a big difference between those older ones being sold on line and the new ones at the park. I know the new ones are dressed in a tux but do they work the same or would I be missing other functions? I also have a certificate for an extra pin that goes with the new one that I would not be able to use, but is it really worth all the extra money ??? Any input would be very helpful ?

We received moderate enjoyment from the one we purchased 2 years ago - the best messages were the ones that indicated a certain attraction had relatively short lines! We replaced, with no problem, a year ago at MK when it stopped working.

Not quite convinced we should shell out another $60 but would be curious if the new one has features beyond being able to speak Portugese!?

The newer ones come with a removable tux, are updated with new attractions, play a few more games and are louder. After that they are the same. The new ones go for around $65. You can get the old ones on clearance. I got 2 for $13 each plus shipping from the character warehouse.

The new ones also emit a signal which will activate the Happiest Celebration on Earth Glow Medallion -- any of these medallions which are in range will light up when you squeeze Pal Mickey's hand.

I bought the "old" one for my kids for 13.99 each..... unless the new one spits silver dollars, the price difference was too great to justify buying it!

I have the old pal Mickey....but I am planning to get the new one because it seems to cute. The imaginears really have me figured out.....

For $13 and shipping it would make a great gift.

Also the original P Mickey should upgrade software as he enters the park???? Am I right?

this last question is the big ticket question.....any one have a difinitive answer on that one? if pal mickey is just a reciever for information that it trasmitted to it by devices placed at/near attractions and thru the parks, then it should be able to get info on new attractions and current ride times and relay that info. that's my theory at least.

anyone with more info on this?

From what I have heard, the old Pal Mickey will not get information on the newest attractions. The rides and shows are hard wired in and only the times for the stuff he is programmed to get will be updated when he is rescanned.

We took our old Pal Mickey to the shop at the front of the park. They did something to him to update the info (it was all, mentioning Alien Encounter, etc., etc.). But they did mention that the Pal Mickey would not provide info as to some of the newer attractions.
