I've seen lots of postings about these but given restrictions on luggage weight (and spending) am a bit dubios.

The gadget buff in me says - got to get one. The Mum (i.e. person who will already be pushing a buggy stuffed with gear) says - one more thing to lose.

I've seen you can get one much cheaper than the parks from outlets, and that you just hold them up to update them (magic or what?).

Anyone got one, and do you use it? Have you used it on repeat trips?
Thanks :earseek:

Back from 1st trip to wdw, we too had heard about Pal Mickey as mentioned in Simons book last year. After some discussion before we went we decided to thinkabout it. We thought it might be good for our ds age 7. We found it heavily promoted through the parks even on the reg plates of the buses of wdw transport. Cost was about $56, available in every WDW shop sounds a lot but convert it to £'s and its not such a bad deal. It is very interactive our ds (and me) 7 got a lot out of it it really does talk to you letting you know how long before parades and loads of other info you wouldnt expect. It comes with batteries but drains them quick when in use. Comes with belt clip v usefull when they get tired of carrying it. V good quality though try not to drop it.All in all a worthwhile buy can be used at home as has 4or5 inbuilt interactive games. :smooth:

We are getting one for our trip in Feb - not sure who it's really for...me or Millie!!

I can live with the awful jokes....bad jokes I tend to find funny........

OK....what do you call a sheep without a head or legs??

Made me giggle like crazy......my work pals just looked at me "did she find that funny?!".....best joke I've heard in ages!!!

i have used pal mickey for my last 2 trips and although hes not really needed i wouldnt be with out him. Yes his jokes are awful but he is great fun to carry around and even my husband will carry him from time to time. Why not try renting him first and see what you think.

Made me giggle like crazy

Aahh, bless!!! :teeth:

Definitely going to get sucked into this Pal Mickey business - I'm so weak!! But I know that I ... I mean DD.... will love it! ;)

BTW you can't rent him anymore, only buy him.

Pooky - that's one of my best jokes too - and I don't know anyone else who likes it either :-)

We are 2 adults no kids and I bought one for my gadget minded husband as a joke 50th birthday presssie last year, first of all he railed at me for wasting money and refused to carry him, by the end of the week I couldn't prise it off him to get a turn! No not essential but great fun!

I believe as of 12/01/04, wdw is no longer renting pal mickey. We bought one at closeout a couple of months ago. :Pinkbounc :earboy2:

Thanks for these - now all I have to do is persuade DH!

Does he work in all the Dusney parks or just MK?

I think I saw somewhere you can get them cheap by mail order but I don't know if they ship to the UK. Any ideas anyone?

He works in all the parks - so well worth the money!! ;) You could try ebay - you just might manage to find a bargain.

That is my favourite joke ever....and the ONLY joke I can ever remember :earboy2:

I love my Pal Mickey and I didn't find him to be a pain to carry around. I'm looking forward to taking him on my next trip :cheer2:

Another one joins the "awful jokes" clan.....OK one more, I promise...and I won't say anymore.

"Knock, Knock"

"who's there"

"dunup"

"dunup who"

......

Mille was hysterical with this....we were in fits for ages!

just in case it did't read right....it should be done a poo

No more rubbish jokes....I promise!

I bought Pal Mickey on the first day of our trip in May 2003. I bought him from the gift shop at AKL and he wasn't available to buy in the parks until later during that trip. I enjoyed being one of the first to have one - I got lots of attention from CMs and envious/curious looks from other guests. I thought I would find him a nuisance, but he wasn't at all. I'd read on the boards before I left home that the belt clip wasn't great, so I just carried him under my arm.

He works in all the parks and his "advice" is specific to the park you are visiting (and even the area within the park). I've been back 3 times since, but I haven't taken him on subsequent trips. I did take him everywhere with me in May, 2003,though - I had expected the novelty might wear off after the first day.

Why did you not take him to subsequent trips, UKDeb?

I'm getting sucked into this now and keep "mentioning" it to DS(5) to prime him - I'm hoping he'll buy it with his money and avoid DH saying "Aren't you too old for toys?" :smooth: :rolleyes1 (Anyway, I'd rather he buys a decent toy than loads of small bits of c**p I have to keep track of and tidy up!)

I do worry about the annoying factor - can you turn him off if you have enough?

You can turn Pal Mickey off if you want to.

We bought one last October and he was good fun. We are planning to take him back with us in March. For $60 at the current rate it's not bad, especially if you are there for a couple of weeks .

I've looked at the e-bay one.

For that price I'd rather wait and buy one when we get there - if they sell them at WDW hotels we can buy one as soon as we check in!!

Otherwise we can try the outlets, but at a rate of $1.85 to the £ its not actually that dear really.
