I am thinking about buying a Pal Mickey next month.

Last time we were at WDW, I almost brought one but just never got around to it. Now I am thinking about it again.

We will be at WDW for 3 weeks.

For off is Pal Mickey worth the money? Is he easy to hold on to & keep track of?
Does he repeat the information?
What are any positives or negative experiences you had with him?
AND would you buy him again (if you brought him)?

I would definitly buy him again. I bot one in March of this year and love him. I used him at epcot and we were there from open to close and he never repeated one thing. However he loves to talk in epcot so he always had something to say. I love him and Im glad I bought it because Im going on my honeymoon in OCT. and staying a week and Pal Mickey will be joining us. So I recommend him and have a blast and let us know if he works out.

We bought a Pal Mickey when we were in Disney last August. He is actually smaller and lighter weight than I expected him to be and he comes with a "clip" so that you can attach him to your belt or something. We actually found that we couldn't hear him when he was attached to a belt so we ended up hooking him to the strap of the backpack we were carrying. That worked great-we never had to "unclip" him to hear what he was saying. We took him to all 4 parks with us, but he seemed to be the most talkative at AK and EPCOT. He did repeat some things, but it wasn't to the point where it was annoying.

The only problem we had with him at all was that the little guy really eats up the batteries! We were in the parks for 8 days with him and had to replace his batteries twice! The first time he just started talking jibberish and when we took him to a CM to find out what was wrong, she replaced the batteries for free and that fixed him right up! The second time he just stopped talking altogether but was fine once we replace the batteries again.

All in all, we thought he was a great purchase and are looking forward to making our second trip with him in May!

I have a Pal Mickey and love it! I love all the trivia bits he gives about the parks. If you get one, I would recommend picking up a bottle strap holder (the ones you can get the beverage carts). It's much easier to carry him around the parks using the strap rather than the clip. The clip never seemed to stay on me for some reason.

Does Pal Mickey talk during shows? I can see sitting in Mickey's Philharmagic and he starts yacking away and wont shut up and annoying everyone sitting around you. Does he know to keep quiet or do you have to shut him off?

I REALLY DIDN'T WANT TO BUY A PAL MICKEY WHEN WE WERE AT DISNEY IN MARCH, BUT MY 7 YEAR OLD WAS DETERMINED TO GET ONE, SO WE DID AND WE LOVED IT. GO FOR IT:D

The only time Pal Mickey talked during a show was at WWTBAMPI, when he was insistant that we go find a place to watch the parade! Being a typical mom, what was the first thing I did when he started to talk? Placed my hand over his mouth, like that would shut him up! After he went off again, I just turned him off until the show was over, then switched back on. That was the only time he "talked out of turn". The only time we heard him repeat himself was if we rode a ride more than once (he asked us to look for bugs in his ears after riding RnR, and he had gold dust in his nose after riding BTMRR, until he sneezed!). Even if we walked through an area more than once, he wouldn't repeat himself. He was clipped to my fanny pack belt, and any time he went off, we held him up for all four of us to hear. The only problem, I borrowed him from a co-worked, so I had to give him back. Wish we had bought one for ourselves. Oh well, next trip!:wave2:

Okay, what's a Pal Mickey? I gather it's some sort of talking device that eats batteries, but what does it do? Why would you buy one? How much does it cost?

Pal Mickey Rules!!!

Okay, heres the down low on him....
You can rent him for $8 a day, or $50 to buy him

He looks like a small plush Mickey Mouse to the average passer-byer. He is sort of like a radio GPS type thing, forgive me I forget the correct technical term, but he has an antennae in his nose (my dog decided to open his nose up, so I know this for a fact) LOL! looks like a little red LED light, you can unzip him to find his on/off switch- to save on batteries.
If you purchase him at a shop- we got ours at our resort, they will turn him on and get him all set to go with you.
He comes with a clip. You can attach him to your belt, or follow other posters suggestions.

He is always available to tell jokes, or play games with (yup, even after you bring him home from your trip)

Assuming you have him clipped to your waist, he will vibrate for one of 2 reasons.
A. He has a joke related to the area you are in (ie space related jokes while in Tomorrowland in Magic Kingdom) some are really quite good, some are knock-knock quality.
B. He has park information- like suggesting what time to go get a spot for parade watching, or when a particular ride has a short line. Or perhaps to point out secret info (like a talking water fountain, or bring your attention to fiber-optic walkways)
He is designed not to play during shows and will tell you he needs to be quiet, I actually tested him (squeezed his hand) while watching Muppets, and he wouldn't go off.
Hes a great boredom breaker for people standing in lines- cause we all do that at WDW!
You have to hold him right up to your ear while in the parks- since its so loud, he can be hard to hear...you will find him quite loud when your husband is playing with him in the hotel room and you are trying to nap. ;)
You will notice that he picks up very quickly on where you are at,- walking through the park gates triggers him. He will have a customary comment like "OH BOY, Magic Kingdom..." and then mention some cool rides to check out. Or something to that affect.

Ive never had an issue with batteries, we bought Pal Mickey just after checking in for our 8 day honeymoon and he still is going on the same batteries, yup, I like playing "That Isnt Here" for Disney nostagia.
You can activate him to tell jokes or play games by squeezing his hand/s.
Hes very handy to have around (no pun intended). I strongly recommend getting one. He really made our trip special.

I usually had him- he was a gift from DH. I would stop when Mickey vibrated and say "Wait Tom!!! Mickey has something to say!" and DH would walk back and listen- you have up to 30 seconds I believe to squeeze his hand and hear him repeat what he just said- great if you missed it the first time. once you press his hand in the first window you can keep replaying until you hear the message.

I hope this helps out those who are looking for info on him.

Thank you everyone!!!
It sounds like we will probably pick one up.

Hm sounds good, now if they had a Pal Pooh I would be right there in line for him.

Just a little update. Pal Mickey now costs $60.00.

I was lucky enough to buy him two years ago at the $50.00 price tag, but he now costs $10.00 more. He is still definately worth every penny!!!

I too gave in and let DS(12) get a Pal Mickey during our recent (4/2-4/10) visit. Thought it was silly and a waste of money - WRONG!!!!! We had so much fun with him! I loved the silly jokes, he was a great ice breaker while waiting in lines and he never spoke out of turn. Yes he was $60 but he was worth it. DS purchased ours in the YC gift shop, when the batteries failed 2 days later in the MK he was given fresh batteries. I told the cm we had run them down because we played with him a lot so I would be happy to pay but the money was refused.

Enjoy!

Well, I am getting him for sure!!! He sounds really neat & fun to have around.

Last summer we were there, they had just came out with him. I wanted to get him but everyone in my party kept making comments about it costing $50 & it seemed like a waste.....now those SAME people are asking about Pal Mickey, of course I told him he is now $60 instead of $50.

If they won't have made any comments about his price last summer, we could have saved $10

Anyway, I am sold!
Is it best to get him at your resort?
We check in at Pop Century on 5/29, but we do plan on going down to Magic Kingdom that evening.
Should I just buy him at Magic Kingdom or do it at the resort?

Also where in MK is he sold? I am thinking that huge store on the corner when you enter the Magic Kingdom (I am drawing a blank on the name of the store!!!!!)

I am getting it too. I knew my DH will think it's crasy. But I guess he'll be ok / happy later.

Only thing is I am leaving off site. But I want to get it first thing we get there. Will I be able to go those gift shops in resorts and buy one?

Yes they are sold at Disney Resorts.
My biggest complaint is that he doesn't talk loud enough, you have to stop, put him up to your ear and listen.

Just an FYI, the Budget Board now has a Pal Mickey Swap similar to the Stroller Swap. If you are not interested in paying the full price, or the full rental cost you might want to check out the swap thread.

Some of us are using the Pal Mickey for about a month of swapping, then he is being donated to Give Kids The World when we are finished.

I just posted on another thread about how much I love my Pal Mickey. He was definitely worth every penny, and I'm sorry I didn't buy him sooner. I've been to AK many, many times, and Pal Mickey alerted me to a path I've never been on to check out the giant squirrel, or rodent, or whatever the heck it was. DH and I were so shocked to find out he was right!:D
