Paintball Gun Advice needed

DD wants a paintball gun for Christmas. Looked at Amazon and found a starter kit by Spyder for about $90. Anyone have any advice (other than telling her to forget it). Thanks.

As a woman who played the starter kit looks good. Its not to much money in case she doesnt like it. I used the tipman, more expensive. But I would start there and see if she will continue. Good for her to want to play. Great active sport.

oh boy...a thread DS can contribute to! He LOVES paintball and researches the heck out of everything. He is at work, but I will grill him when he gets home. Off the top pf my head he has the Tippmann A-5, swears by that gun. He has modified it tho, has a carbon fiber tank (beware, that was like $150) scope was $80, but the gun on it's own is fine.. DS is kinda nuerotic about his and wanted to customize it. That is one of the reasons he liked the Tippmann, easy to do stuff to. His has never given him problems, issues...I guess some guns can jam up or be frustrating. His is pretty easy to clean as well. Not too heavy at all. My DD likes it, but being a poor college studetn, she can't get one of her own, lol.

One key thing I know DS has said...no matter what kind of marker you have (the term marker is used over gun) it isn't going to matter if you have a mask that fogs up. Invest in a quality mask and you will have a ton of fun not frustration. DS bought one by VForce.
Finally...YAY for a girl loving the sport (u 2 usnuzuloose)...too bad you guys aren't in IL~ DS needs a GF who loves the sports he does, lol!

DS says to go to amazon or US Army paintball...he says to stick with Tippmann (except the 98 custom) and avoid Spyder. Spyder advertises speed but they break. The US Army Tippmann is less expensive than the A-5.

Once she gets a gun, she may want to play paintball with someone else. Unless she has ever been shot with one and knows what to expect, she may not know how much it can hurt. I'll never forget the first time my DH went paintballing with his buddies and came home. He took his clothes off and was covered with some nasty bruises.
If she wants to play, please make sure to look into getting her some gear. Jeans and a long sleeve top, doesn't cut it.
I got my DH a vest with a chest guard, a padded jersey, padded pants, and padded gloves. He's a "tough guy", and didn't think he needed all this until he wore them, and seen the difference! He loves coming out of a battle feeling fine, while his buddies that want to "tough it out" are in misery for the next few days, lol!
I got DH Valken brand gear, it is good quality, and if you do your research, you can get it fairly inexpensively. I got DH a design that had been discontinued and was on clearance at the time and saved about 1/2.

My husband is big into paintball, I know far more about it than I ever hoped to Until our son came along we travelled all over for paintball tournaments. It really depends on what type of paintball your daughter would like to play. If she is going to be playing in the woods or in someone's backyard type of thing then the Tippman is the way to go. If she is going to a paintball field to play x-ball or tourament style (with inflatable bunkers) she will want something that shoots much faster than a tippman. How old is your daughter? I played for awhile and it does hurt at first but you do get used to it. It was a lot of fun and I do miss playing.

I remember the pain, those california magnums were thick skinned paintballs and created massive bruises. I was glad when they stopped making those. I agree tippman is the best gun. But I see it as it is better to buy something less costly as she may not stay with it, not much money went into it.

It's a tough call , I know some kids who said they didn't like it when they were playing with the rental equipment...DS would let them use his A-5 and they were like, whaaaaaa? So in a way, having decent equipment can make a difference in keeping the interest going. Well, that and the $ to play and kids who can go. Where we live you can't head out on your own property and practice, you have to go to a field. Drives DS nuts that he can't ever just have a pick-up game or target practice...has to be a planned deal.
