after throwing out my upteemth half empty bottle of bottled water today...I declared our home a disposible waterbottle free home....

we have great tap water in our town... so I went out and spent less than $10 on water bottles for our family...

drinking tap water.... saving $500 a year..... not having to lug 24 pks of water home PRICELESS

aww, shoot, we already do this. got any other tricks up your sleeve? lol

Good for you! We also have good water in our town. I like having my own bottle and it's gets to be a habit after awhile. :)

The only problem I see with your own water bottle is when you drink it there's no more cold bottles waiting for you to drink next. So I keep buying the Kirkland water. But one thing that I do is write names on the bottles when I buy them so when there is a half drank bottle we know whose it is.

Yeah, we are lucky to have good water in our town too. I refuse to buy bottles of water unless we go camping, or go on a road trip vacation. I had a dentist and Dr. tell me that the water in MOST people's towns in the USA is better and HEALTHIER to drink anyways. People who drink bottled water only don't get the fluoride and other things that come naturally in regular tap water.

We save money not only in NOT buying the water, we have better dental visits. AND less cavity problems. (according to our dentist)...I wish they'd do a study on that and really find out what people are MISSING when they drink bottled water.

And, that water comes from someone elses 'tap water' anyways...it's only the bottle we pay for.

Don't get me wrong. Some cities have bad water. I would get a filter, or some other device then- but never bottled water. AND, it is still better to buy a bottle of water than a bottle of pop when a person is out on the go.

Wish my DD would take tap water.

Well don't 'wish!' :) that's an easy fix. You say 'this is what we have, if you want bottled you'll have to find a way to buy it yourself.

I agree with you. We do buy bottled for when we go camping at certain places. We do have a big cooler type thermos thing with a spout for state parks though. (In MN at least, their water is all good.) Otherwise, we drink a lot of water right out of the tap. I really feel for people who live in cities where the water tastes funny. That is one thing I actually have checked in all three homes we have purchase--I want to try the water, before I consider buying the house. :wizard:

Use ice in the water bottles. We use Camelbaks with water from the fridge door. When we want it a bit colder, we add in some ice. Unless I'm out somewhere for hours run out of water I don't buy water.

just keep a large container of water in the fridge, like you would with milk? I'm not trying to be rude but I can't for the life of me understand why anyone buys single servings of water?

OP: congrats on your bottle free zone. Awesome for the environment too.

just buy 2 bottles each.....

Watch for your local supermarket ads as soon as they come out (we get ours tuesday at midnight for the upcoming week). When it comes out I look to see what the good deal are and then look on ebay for the coupons. Our store doubles coupons up to $1. Last week 32oz gatorade was on sale for
.49 if you buy 10, I bought coupons on ebay for buy 10 get 5 free, if you bought 30, you got all 30 for .49 each, The coupons rang up $5.00 off, After i used my 10 coupons that i paid $8.00 for on ebay. My total bill for 150 bottles was $29.05.

Toothpast, deordant, body wash, mac and cheese was also on sale, I got 64 bottles of gillette body wash, 40 kraft mac and cheese, 40 deordorants, and 65 crest toothpastes for $2.36, + $7.36 I spent on ebay coupons. What I dont really need I will sell at the next garage sale. Body wash $2, Toothpaste $0.50, Deordorant $1, mac and cheese $.50,

We have an old water cooler from a time our well water was really bad. Now I am on city water and I just keep it filled up so we always have cold water around. It is really great and everyone drinks so much more that way. Of course if I had it to do over again I would buy the fridge with the water and ice in the door. It is just so easy.

Stopped using bottled water here several months ago. FL tap water just doesn't taste good to me (too sulphur-y). Got a Brita pitcher and plenty of filters and some refillable mugs (although, I'd love to find some good non-plastic ones...way too much plastic in everything nowadays)

I just stopped 2 weeks ago buying cases of water and we are using a brita pitcher. Besides wasting money on the water I felt guilty having all these plastic bottles going out for recylcing every week. I'm going to pick up a few refillable bottles and keep them in the fridge so we can just grab and go. Linda :)

Cold water comes out of our fridge's water dispenser, so cold water isn't the issue.

We haven't purchased water in years, unless it is almost free with coupons, and then we use it for Disney as DH will not drink tap water in Florida. We are on a well and have perfect drinking water out of our tap with no chemicals.

I need another way to cut $500 too.

:hippie:
