Paid FP options coming soon to WDW?

Maybe I should just give up on hoping for the return of FP+, paid or free, for my July trip. The wait is exhausting!!

I can guarantee you it will not be available for 4th of July. Will be lucky if we see FP+ return in any form before October 1st.

I keep hearing from my source that they're aiming for sometime this summer. Whether or not that actually happens and when is up to Disney.

Personally, I would think they'd want to get it up and running and work out any kinks well prior to the anniversary.

Does your source know whether they’ll be paid or free?

My 2 cents are that July 5th week would be a great time to start it back up - they have to test run it ASAP

They can and have run tests in the background using programming to determine the stability. The first time they did it, the whole system, even reservations and IHD, went down for almost 2 hours. Since then, they have run smaller tests with more success. They won't test it on the public and risk major issues due to system problems. And a holiday week isn't the time to try anyway

is the unpredictability due to the platform also supporting the park reservation system now? Otherwise you’d think they wouldn’t need tons of testing considering fp+ has been up and running for a number of years.

Its most likely due to FP+ not coming back the same way it used to be.

They changed the platform to accommodate new options. Which is why flipping a switch and just bringing back fp+ isn't as easy as it sounds. But they do have the basics to do it on the new platform. I figure if they can't work out the kinks in whatever new fp system they are constructing, fp+ could come back just as it was until the new version is adaptable to the new platform

I never expected it to come back the same way. I expected a hybrid max pass/ fp+ system. But since they are pushing capacity up and will need some fp system, if the new version is still creating issues on the platform, slipping fp+ back in until they get the issues resolved could always be an option. The new platform is pretty robust but requires a lot of programming. Both coasts are having challenges adapting to it

this is my fear

this makes so much sense, thanks for explaining! I really hope it’s actually new options as you said, instead of a complete overhaul (ie completely paid) system.

I hope for the hybrid or even a return to fp+, as we mastered the art of refresh. But they won't leave money on the table so I think a hybrid or fully paid system will be the result. If it is paid like maxpass. It's ok. If it is like universals. It will be pricey

I’m not so naive to think that it’s just going to back as it was, so my hope is that the included fastpasses remain an on-site perk, with extras being a paid option and fastpass in general being a paid option for offsite guests. That feels like the best possible circumstance, kind of a happy medium between the scenario I actually want (fastpass+ resumes unchanged) and what Disney would want in terms of profitability.

I personally think it's going to be similar to Shanghai's. You will be able to buy groups of FP according to a theme.

I don't think it will be completely free for onsite. I can see them giving you 3 free ones a day and the rest you pay for.

yeah that’s what I’m thinking too and also what I’m hoping for. I can live with the 3 a day and pay for extras. I would be unhappy though if it went to a completely paid system. I’d also be wondering why I should choose to pay onsite prices anymore.

i wonder when they will tell us. Surly can’t be long now

Well the good news is if they can't have a paid FP+ system until Disney IT works out all the bugs in the new platform, we'll have free FP+ for a loooooong time.
