Paid FP options coming soon to WDW?

I will also say that if capacity got raised to 100%, I would imagine Disney would have all attractions available - which would also pull people off of lines for rides and theoretically shorten the lines (at least when comparing a 35% day with not all attractions running to a 35% day with all attractions running).

Magic Kingdom doesn't have too much closed right now - but Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom are both missing some big shows.

Back on topic -- this is why I think there could be a premium offering that replaces FastPass, a "VIP-lite" using the fastpass lanes that is expensive to purposefully keep that line very short and keep the standby line moving (as it stands now, some people are using the Fastpass line right now for DAS, Rider Switch, Club 33, etc and the standby line is still moving pretty quick).

Virtual queue (look at how Indiana Jones Adventure works at Disneyland) could be used to keep the standby line shorter - where if the wait time gets beyond a certain point, they instead offer a virtual return time. Long term, that could influence new rides that could use less space for queues and of course keep more people in the park doing other things vs. spending time in line.

I do expect there will still be some form of "free" FP but I could defintiely see paid tiers coming. I wouldn't hazard a guess as to if that looks like MaxPass at DLR or something else though. I do think it is good that they rethink the way it is done, and I'll be happy if it leads to something more efficient overall, paid or not.

Two years for this thread is nothing compared to the fact that we've been debating the topic of Fastpasses in general for 22 years (to include the "Great FP War of 2012" that I've alluded to previously).

No kidding. Those were the days.

The earliest "Pay for FP" thread I could find was from 2005.

Paying for fastpass in 2006?????

https://www.disboards.com/threads/paying-for-fastpass-in-2006.978512/

Dec 13, 2005
I just picked up Birnbaum's Walt Disney World for Kids by Kids! for my 8yr old DD. (I never read Birnbaum's myself, just the Unoffical Guide and of course these boards to get all the info I ever need ) I thought she'd enjoy the photos and Disney explained in Kids Speak.

Well, I look at the second page and there is an explanation of fastpass, then this got my attention..."Fastpass is usually free for guests staying at deluxe Walt Disney World hotels. Other guests may have to pay for it in 2006" :earseek:

Have I missed any past theads about this?...I know that there was a thead on the rumors board but it is from this past summer. In that thread, all the discussion stemed from an article from Jim Hill and talked about patents. I'm not sure when this 2006 guide came out, the copywrite is 2005. The fact that it is in writing really makes me nervous. :confused3

*I posted this on the Theme Parks board. It was suggested that I post this here too.

Just want to remind everyone that there is no evidence -- NONE WHATSOEVER -- that WDW is changing its FP policy, or switching to paid FPs or Lightning Passes or anything of the sort. This thread is fun conjecture, but it only conjecture, and it's conjecture that has gone on from the very origins of FP+.

It's fun to guess, but I see a lot of people making judgements and accusations based on nothing more than the idea that Disney will soak people at every opportunity. And while they might -- and they might end up doing any of the things suggested here -- a lot of these arguments are being based on things that either aren't true or haven't happened. And it's a rather mean-spirited assumption, because there isn't much evidence to back it up. The number of things that Disney COULD do to take advantage of the roughly 50 million people who come to Orlando each year far out weighs the things Disney has actually done. Have they done some things we don't like? Sure. But in the overall scheme, those things pale before the things they probably could have gotten away with.

As of today, we know nothing about the return of Fast Passes. It might be worth keeping in mind that this thread is nothing but people's imagination at work. None of these are even reasonable, educated guesses because there's nothing to base them on. So it's fun to read, but it's really no more than fan fiction.

The general assumption of many is that Disney will always work to get more money. Ok, so that is what all businesses do. You can decide if that's how you wish to spend your money or not. And regardless of what Disney does in regards to fps, aps, etc. Half the crowd will whine and complain.

What's really funny are the comments that are essentially "I won't stand for this....I'm going to Universal instead"....guess what Universal has? Paid FP!!

I don't go to Universal anyway. If Disney charges an arm and a leg for this then I won't be going there either.

Hah. Yes, but two years of “this is happening soon” is a long time to keep creating new scenarios.

I am going :banana::banana:while waiting for Disney to drop news regarding FP+/Genie for my upcoming trip in July.
I am really not looking forward to waiting in line under the brutal sweltering FL sun.

Same.. Going around the 4th.. If they announce it and it starts after my trip, I will be very very very very very very very ....... mad

I just wouldn't have any expectations at this point it will help with those feelings of disappointmentand anger. Disney is releasing information on their schedule and nobody knows what it is. I have hopes to have FP+ back when I go at the end of August but I'm not planning on it at this point. I booked knowing that FP+ currently isn't available.

I am the opposite. I am waiting to book until I hear what is going on since it will determine if we stay on property or not.

I lost expectations last week at the month point. I booked knowing all this stuff might not be there also, but I figured Disney would be actively updating us on all these things. There is a rumor that Fireworks are returning the beginning of July. That's great. My point is that on June 10th, it shouldn't be a rumor, it should be announced, if true. Communication on things we all enjoy would be nice. I look at Disney as a home away from home, and the evil step sister chapek is not being nice

When I booked a few months ago, I hoped for the following:

Masks off outside. CHECK
Masks off inside. I THINK THIS WILL BE A CHECK SOON
Fastpass. CHECK PLEASE?
Ohana. DIFFERENT CHECK
Fireworks. INCOMING CHECK

I'm doing pretty well..

That works too but booking with expectations that a certain thing will happen tends to lead to a lot of disappointment.

That is why I haven't booked yet. I am waiting to find out what they are going to do. Our trip will not be until November next year so I have some time. Nothing has to be done until this November.

I get it I just don't understand about being angry at something you can't change. You booked knowing it may not be back. Chapek is not my favorite guy and when I went in October I sworw upside and backwards that I would not return until fastpass returns. I broke, booked again and I know I'll have a good time regardless. Things change really quickly and often at Disney. My first trip I booked expecting to ride The great Movie Ride and Splash Mountain. I never got ro ride The grear movie ride and splash was closed for referb when I got there. Moved on and had a great time.

I think where I get confused is your statement with the emphasis on how mad you will be if what you want doesn't happen. Like I said before if you have no expectations yoy won't be that mad.

EDIT: Nevermind. Couldn’t post the WDWNT link saying standby has been added on the app which might suggest fast pass coming soon. Lol
