Paid focus group listings on craigslist- legit?

[I don't believe this falls under the category of "Rewards" programs, but if so, mods please feel free to move this.]

I was just called by a market research firm to participate in a focus group discussion. I had applied with them to become a panelist about a month ago. I know that this company is legit bc a friend does this for them all the time. I started to search the net for more opportunities like this and found several listings on craigslist.com. Here is what was on one listing:

We are conducting a 60 minute market research round-table discussion on toothpaste.


If you are interested please respond by email to this posting with the following info :

Age –
Occupation –


* Location: philadelphia
* Compensation: $200 Compensation at conclusion of study

Have you ever replied and participated in something similar in your area? If I get a reply from them, I will surely check them out as best I can before I go.....I don't want to be given a dead-end address, go there and be abducted or something. Am I being too paranoid? What do you think?

Every focus group I've gotten off of Craigslist Boston is legit, but if you have a bad feeling, stick with your gut.

I tend to be trusting (naive?) and sometimes surprised by scams and fraud.
So I wanted to put it past some others here to see what they think.
Glad to hear that legit operations use craigslist.

I did a one earlier this year and it was legit. It wasn't a focus group but they were looking for specific individuals in a field to look at a new system, which I qualified.

I just looked for groups in Minnesota and that one for toothpaste was on ours too. There are a couple out there. Sure would be nice to make extra $$.

The ads that I saw were under the "jobs" section for my state. Go to the very bottom of the list there is an "ETC" category (et cetera). I replied to several but no one ever contacted me.
