Packing Water in our Luggage?

I would like to meet the person that packed liquids in their suitcase that got all my stuff wet. I would love to hear how they wrapped it.

How do you know that the source of the liquid was another passenger's luggage? There are other possibilities.

I'm with safetymom on this one.......although I do have to say water probably wouldn't ruin anyone else's luggage or belongings. But, my bag was also ruined by someone packing glass bottled baby formula in a checked bag. However, it didn't happen on the flight......but, when being transported from the airport to VWL by ME. We arrived at VWL about 5:00 p.m. and when we got back to our room about 11 that evening and my bag hadn't been delivered by Bell Services yet I just knew there was a problem. Upon calling I was told "Oh yes.....someone will be right up with it." Well they did come right up to the room with it........soaking wet and stinky with formula.... I learned long ago to pack all of my clothing in plastic space bags for travel so none of my clothing was wet or ruined. Fortunately since the bag was damaged on ME.. Disney provided me with a new comparable bag the next day....Bell Services told me simply to take my bag after I had unpacked it to the front desk and ask for the manager on duty and it would be taken care of....since it was already documented that it had been damaged on ME. So, as a word of caution......do please be careful what kind of liquids you pack in your bag because you're not only be taking the change of ruining your belongings but others also. On another note, I have ordered cases of water many times in the past from Staples for delivery to the WDW resorts...... haven't for several years since we've been using Garden Grocer and I do believe they now charge a delivery fee, but, in the past if you were a Staples Rewards member shipping was free.

I fly Southwest all the time- 2 free bags- I make sure to use one suitcase for me and a box- must be under 50lbs- for my water, juiceboxes, wine, vodka, kahlua.
I just put the magical express sticker on it too- a little bubblewrap- never had a problem- it must be checked. they always open it- that's ok

i packed my rolling cooler with our various liquids. will do it again - if we ever use dme again.

Of all the surprising things people do, bringing water to Orlando, FL on an airplane is one of them. Why?

Possibly because water is readily available in Florida. If you don't like the tap there are many stores around. No need to haul it across country. It weights a lot and can cause damage to your other stuff. Just seems easier to stop and buy it or have it delivered to your room.

We are not talking about a trip to outer Mongolia here.

Well....a ton of anything is still a ton. But, if you take a measurement of water, and then change it's properties..say to ice..then that same measurement is going to weigh differently. A pound of water is exactly the same as a pound of ice. But, can you imagine what a ton of feathers would look like???

Wasn't this a Trival Persuit question? The answer actually is a ton of feathers weighs more, due to the way they measure it.

The dme bus driver won't stop at the store for us to buy anything and i'm glad. too time consuming. and we don't pay for anything to be delivered to our room because it's too easy and cheaper and less time consuming to pack everything we need in our bags.

I've posted on here a couple of times about my stuff being ruined by some idiot who packed wine in their checked bag. We were coming home from Orlando though. When my light colored duffel came around the belt in Dallas it was soaked with wine. It just so happened the guilty party was standing next to us. Hearing us and seeing my bag, the wife made the comment to her husband, "Oh, I hope that wasn't our wine bottles that broke". We saw him quickly elbow and shush her. Sure enough their bag came around also soaking wet and stained with wine. She looked apologetically at me and said. "I don't understand. We wrapped those bottes really well, then wrapped them again in several of the hotel towels". I asked if they were going to pay for my ruined bag and clothes and the husband who was already mad about his own bag, sarcastically said, "no the airlines will, since it was their fault their goons throw the bags around so roughly". We had to wait for our other bag and that couple just stalked off with theirs.

Ours got hit with either aftershave or mens cologne. Our bag had to be dumped and it took many many washing of the clothes before they were wearable. My shoes smelled forever, until I dumped them. Several items were ruined just from the dampness. We now pack everything in plastic bags inside the luggage.
No one picked up the bag it obviously came from..it just kept going round the turnstyle until someone from the airport took it off. We gave up waiting to see if they were going to claim it. Guess they didn't want the stinky thing.

I can't even begin to imagine how long the DME ride would be if it made stops!:scared1: I was thinking more along the lines of if you had a car or car service. Or you could even grab a taxi to go to a store if you really want water.

Oh, there have been reports on here. Bavaria reported several incidents herself, as well as other posters. It happens..more often than I would like to think.

when you bring what you need on vacation from home, there is no need for a trip to the store by taxi.

Of topic. I missed Bavaria for a long while.
I hope she is in good health. Any one know what happened to her? I always loved her comments.

I have experienced the same. My husband did as well on a trip home from Virgina a few weeks ago.

Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but I always order a case of water from Costco. I think it was around $7, which included shipping right to our resort. Just put your order in about 2-3 days before leaving, and it should be there when you get there. I guess the only issue is if you are staying at a convention resort where they charge for deliveries. Then, it gets a bit more expensive.

If you really want to save money, just drink the free water at counter service restaurants. It's filtered so it tastes fine, and it's more convenient than lugging a water bottle around all day.

I would NEVER carry liquid in my suitcase but I DO buy the gallon size ziplock bags and pack each days clothes in them. My thinking is not only are my clothes safe from other passengers liquids if they spill on my bag but it is so easy to unpack and know what we are wearing each day!

Generally speaking, liquids that are in unopened original packaging that is NOT glass will be OK shipped by air, provided that it is not punctured by a sharp object, so my usual advice if you have to do this is to pack it in a hardside cooler that is strapped shut. (NOT taped shut, because any time you check a cooler, the airline will normally ask to visually inspect the contents when you check it. Then TSA might open it as well, and if the tape won't stick back down, it could come open. A couple of buckled luggage straps work better.) My usual method is to put a folded beach towel into the cooler, then a LARGE h-d trash bag, with the packaged liquids inside, with towels around and between the packages, and another towel on the top, then close the bag.

I do not ever pack glass, or perishable liquids. Glass is notorious; one good crash and it's all over.

The worst leaks I've experienced have been partially-used toiletries. IME, an already-opened bottle in a checked bag will normally leak due to pressure in probably 25% of cases.

All is well with our 'old friend'. She is doing well..just very busy with life. I understand that she stops by here every once in awhile just to see what's going on. But, you're right...she is missed by many.
