I am flying and I need to figure out

1. what kind of caryon to bring if I am checking in lougage

2. what to bring on a 3hr flight

btw I leave on thrusday morning

1. Whatever kind complies with YOUR specific airline's size requirements and which you pack to a weight lighter than or equal to what you can lift over your head without assistance. It should contain travel documents, valuables (electronics, etc), medication, and whatever items you will need for the first 24 hours at your destination

2. Items that will quietly and unobstrusively hold your interest for the three hour flight. Books, magazines... if you bring anything electronic, it can be used only when directed by the Flight Attendants; if it makes noise, it requires headphones to avoid disturbing the other passengers.

You should be able to find on your airline's website the specifics for carry on.

I fly SpiritAir, and mine is roughly 18" x 7" x 5" duffle type bag from LL Bean. And a purse type bag, like the Overland Donner.

Pack at least one change of clothes and medication in your carry on just in case your checked luggage is lost or delayed.

For busy stuff, I like:

  • MP3 player (with Disney music loaded of course, like I won't hear enough on my trip  )
  • Good book or magazine.
  • Nintendo DS or Smartphone if you like games.
  • Portable DVD player.

Have a great trip!!

Check what type of airplane you will be taking both ways. American MD 80's can hold larger luggage in the overhead that the American Embraer's can. Also, are you sitting toward the back or the front? On the way home from Orlando, the people who were the last to get on HAD to check their luggage even if it would have fit in the overheads because American didn't enforce the one bag in the overhead and one bag under the seat rule. There wasn't any room left for the last people to board.

I am thinking of buying a mini backpack from walmart or target and puting in one activity book one reading book and my mp3 playey. btw are corchet hooks allowed on board

w/ crochet hooks. They are no longer worried about nail clippers or nail files, so I think you are good to go!

. btw are corchet hooks allowed on board

It would really bother me if the person next to me was crocheting. That takes more space than those cramped seats allow. Last flight, I was sitting next to a big guy and had to keep my elbows tucked in the whole flight.

I agree that someone creating a full-size anything in an airline seat would have to be encroaching on their neighbor; however, much crochet work is done in small, manageable pieces with the person really needing very little arm motion - since crochet uses one hook, not two needles. In either case, knit or crochet, the work can be done with one's elbows held pretty close to the body and so not infringing on other seats.

Crocheting uses one hook--and really doesn't take extra space. At least when I crochet I don't take up extra room.

Don't forget to pack some small snacks, gum and grab a water bottle after you get through security! I always take a brand new book, yummy trail mix and settle in to read and snack.
