Can I do this? I'm talking about chips, cookies, pop tarts, crackers etc. I haven't flown in 10 years and I'm having a hard time trying to pack with all the "rules".

We do this on every trip. They might open up the luggage to see what you have in there but we have had no issue. We do Pop tarts, granola bars, pringles and chex mix. Plus it gives me room to bring stuff back....

we are packing one carry on with all snacks and nothing else. Just can not be a liquid of any sort.:thumbsup2

You CAN pack liquid in checed luggage, not carryon. We ALWAYS pack liquids in checked luggage as I'm too cheap to pay $2 for a bottle of water. You CAN'T pack liquids in carryons though, unless it complies with their 3-1-1 rule, which is three ounces or less of whatever, in a 1 quart ziploc bag, and 1 bag per person. So you could carryon a 2.9 ounce bottle of sunscreen, a 3 ounce bottle of shampoo, a three ounce bottle of hair gel, and 1 ounce bottle of contact lens cleaner as long as it fit in a 1 quart ziploc.

Depending on your airline, be aware that they are limiting the number of bags you can check without charging you as much as $25 per extra bag. Most airlines limited you to one free bag per pasenger. Just a thought.

We checked snacks last time and everything made it great. I bought some plastic containers from Walmart to keep things from getting smashed. I took pop tarts, cereal bars and chex mix in one container and bottled diet dr peper in another. I didn't put anything in that luggage except snacks just in case the Diet Dr Pepper didn't make it. We had no problems at all. On our return flight, I just put souvies in the place our food was. It was super easy:thumbsup2

When we all went in 2007 I mailed a box to Pop with snax and sunscreen etc so I would have it there when we arrived also shipped my window decorations! This year I went solo and just packed snax in my checked luggage!!

So, are you saying you pack bottles of water in your checked luggage?

How many are you able to pack and how do you do it?

I packed bottled Diet Dr Pepper and water for our last trip. I purchased a plastic container from Wal-mart to put it in to protect it. I was able to fit 6 of each in there for a total of 12 16 oz bottles. I also put snacks in another plastic container to keep them from getting smashed. Nothing other than food/drinks went in that suitcase in case we had a spillage issue. However, everything was fine and I had my Diet Dr Pepper to drink the morning!

It worked out great because I spent less than $10 on the drinks and container. I'm not for certain how much bottled drinks are at WDW but I know they aren't less than $2/each. So, I saved AT LEAST $14 and still have the container for next time. The 12 drinks were a perfect amount as it was just DD and I for 6 days. I was finishing off my last Diet Dr Pepper the day we left!

Wow, tell me more, please! What kind of plastic container - like an insulated cooler? Or a tupperware storage box type?

If we have room I'd love to try that!

I think it was by Sterlite (I pulled the label off). Anyway, I found it in the storage section at Walmart. It is a clear container with a white lid, very basic but it did the job! I bought it the same day I bought my bottles to make sure they would fit. I didn't want the bottles laying down, I wanted them to fit upright. I put the container in a large duffel bag, where there is only ONE right way for the bag to sit. I'm sure it ended up on it's side at some point, but I wanted to minimize the risk that the bottles would be sideways or upside down.

It ended up being quite easy. My DD bought about 10 small stuffed animals on our trip and I just put the bag of her souvies in the container for the way home. The good thing about bringing snacks is knowing that you'll have room on the way home for all those souvies!

Now, we fly SWA and they allow 2 checked bags per customer. If you fly another carrier, I know many are charging after 1 bag. If that is the case, it might not be in your best interest to bring snacks.

Good luck!

I have done this in the past, but that was before the new rules on checked bags. It used to be that you could check 2 bags and now that most of the airlines have cut back to just a single checked bag. Also, that's $25 each way for a total of $50 if you end up going over your alloted number of bags by loading an extra up with snacks. In that case, I would consider one of the companies that delivers groceries to WDW resorts such as We Go Shop (www.wegoshop.com) or Garden Grocer (www.gardengrocer.com) as delivery prices will be less than paying for an extra snack bag.

wegoshop.com charges $17 for delivery. Can't find the charge for garden grocer - do you know?

No, sorry. You can probably email them :). Even so, $17 is a lot less than $50 in snack-bag fees and you can even have them deliver refrigerated items. I also think that one of them will pick up beer and wine for you too :).
