packing question

Has any one used those space saver bags, the ones that take the air out and you can pack more? Just wondering how well they work

I have, but since the weight limit for many airlines is restricted to 50 lbs per bag now, they make my bag too heavy.

No but I pack clothes for the GK in gallon-size ziplock bags ... top, shorts, underwear, socks ... zip it partially closed, then roll it up to squeeze the air out, finish zipping it closed then flatten it out.

Keeps their suitcases nice and neat ... they just need to pull a bag out and they've got everything they need in it. I usually pack another bag with extra underwear and socks.

We did the gallon size ziplock storage bags for our DS5 last fall. It worked great! Like Memaw2Wm, I was able to put a full outfit (shorts, t-shirt, underwear, socks) into a bag. I zipped them nearly closed and stuck a straw in the little opening and sucked the air out! It worked great and DS liked just picking out a bag in the morning. This year, I will probably leave the socks out - most of the time he wanted to wear sandals. I'll just pack a few pairs of socks separately for when he needs them.

I have always heard of this, but haven't gotten the nerve to try it yet. I am anal about wrinkled clothes and iron EVERYTHING Are they wrinkled much for you?

I was thinking about getting the packmate bags, but I do pretty well without them. I roll my clothes and you can get alot more stuff in the suitcase and to me they dont wrinkle as much. I know you cant roll everything, but t-shirts, tanks and shorts roll really well and then you just stack them right on top of each other. Does anyone else do this or am I a weirdo????

Actually, the clothes in the ziplock bags didn't really wrinkle at all. You just need to make sure they are smooth when you remove the air and then they don't wrinkle at all.

We pack the space saver bags empty in the suitcase. We then put the dirty clothes in them on the way home. Wrinkles don't matter then and it frees up space for all the goodies we bought.

We have found the two gallon ziplock bags (they are made for restraunts and would be at your local supply store) to work the best. They are large enough for several pieces of adult clothing and roll air out easily. The spacesaver ones are not as durable as the regular ziplocks we have found!

We also used the 2 gal size ziploc bags. We found them at the grocery store. I threw all my bras and underwear in one and then sat on it and flattened all the air out and zipped it closed. I did the same thing with my DH & DS boxers and socks and my socks and bathing suits. Saved lots of room. I also but the dirty undies/boxers back in the bags for the drive home so as not to smell the stinky things!
