Packing question for early December

I apologize upfront, as this has probably been asked 1 million times...

We are considering an early December trip to the world, and traveling with 2 small children.

I know the weather in December is ever changing, but I'm trying to figure the best way to pack the least amount!

Do you think we would be okay if I completely skipped shorts / capri's, and just packed pants / jeans for everyone? That would alleviate me needing to pack different kinds of shoes... flip flops / sandals etc...

Then I could pack an assortment of short sleeve t's and sweatshirts.

Does it ever get too hot, that you would be terribly uncomfortable in jeans?

TIA for any suggestions!

This is such a hard question to answer because the weather does change. We've been there during the winter months some years and needed to be in shorts. Other times we were fine with long pants for the whole trip. Your best bet may be to wait until a week or two before you leave and check the weather online. it may make it easier to plan accordingly.

Hi,

I don't think anyone can give you a 100% clear answer on this. My best advice is to check the Orlando forecast right before you leave and see if shorts will be necessary. This is a good resource for a short-term forecast, click on the right side of the page for a brief weather forecast video:

You can probably get away without shorts, but there are some afternoons that can get into the 80s.

Hi, this is our second time going in Thanksgiving. I find that Nov/Dec weather is not as wacky as Jan/Feb, that was really all over the place.

I'd plan to be in summer clothes the majority of the day. Last year it was 80 degrees everyday. The mornings might be a little cool, which I just put a sweatshirt on the kids over their t-shirts. Come evening, the weather can really change. We all needed long pants, sneakers (no flip flops) and jackets.

Should you not be returning to your room, you can rent a locker to store all your evening attire. That's what I'm going to do this year. I'm not shelping that tote bag around all day! :rotfl: Oh and a blanket is a must for your little ones!

Of course the weather in FL is not predictible, but this is just based on last year.

I've been at WDW in early December wearing tank tops and shorts and still sweating in the high 80s heat and humidity. And I've been at WDW in early December wearing pants, sweatshirts, coats, hats and mittens and still freezing in windy 40 degree weather.

I don't think that you can skip shorts - we would have been miserable without shorts when it was in the upper 80s - but I think that you can skip sandals and flip flops and just wear gym shoes (or whatever you wear with pants) with your shorts.

I was there over Christmas and we had beautiful weather most of the time and wore summer clothes. However, we also had a couple of cold days that required jackets. I think you will need a variety of outfits.

I wouldn't skip shorts. It's most likely still going to be pretty hot. I'd say plan for summer clothes during the day and then bring a sweatshirt for nights and a couple pants/ jeans. Not many, if they are only wearing them at night for a couple hours you can get away with just bringing like two pairs of jeans and alternating them.

Sometimes, in December, we're in jeans and fleece. Other times, it's definitely shorts weather. Problem with winter months is it's often pants weather in the morning and evening, but quite warm in the afternoons. You may want to pack light layers that you can put on/take off easily.

Thanks everyone!! I was hoping for the easy way out, lol. But, I should be thankful we're even being able to consider going in December!! We have been a few times, but never during the Holidays, and I Can't wait to see the christmas decorations!!!!

Last Dec we wore shorts the entire time. Sometimes jeans at night but definitely short sleeves. The Dec before we hardly wore shorts.

Do you have the option of laundry at your hotel? One thing I have found travelling with a little one is it is almost a necessity (with stains, spills etc) I actually don't mind it. I usually do it one afternoon mid trip when DS is napping and I sit by the pool with my book for some peace and quiet. Then you only have to pack half as much ;)

Sorry, but after 2 mid December trips I have to say you'll need it all

Dec 2007 we stayed 8 nights.

1 day was sooo hot & humid for us Mid-Atlantic -- we were all in shorts (even fat me) & swimming.

1 night was sooo cold we had to go buy DD ear covers. Many folks were walking thru the parks wrapped in blankets. It was in the 30s that night.

You're better packing a little of everything & wearing pants/shorts multiple days rather than skipping packing bathing suit or shorts
