should I put them in my carry on or checked luggage. The actual camera will be with me for sure, but what about the chargers? THanks! :)

I would put them in carry on. Things of value should not go in checked luggage.

Ask yourself this question: Is there any advantage to packing them in your checked luggage? If I ask myself that, I answer, "No, no advantage, I'm putting them in my carry-on." Then again, I like talking to myself ....

I have always put the chargers in my check in luggage. I have never had my luggage lost so I still feel safe doing this.

Pack them in your carry-on. American Airlines just "lost" my husband's checked bag and he did not receive it until almost three days later. Unfortunately in a last minute rush, he threw his cell phone charger into his checked bag.

I hear you. :goodvibes

Lots of people have never been in car accidents but wear seat belts, anyway. Perhaps a better metaphor is, many people take out insurance policies that they'll never make a claim on, but they feel peace of mind knowing they're covered "just in case."

I'm not paranoid by any means, I just like being self-protective. Having those things in my carry-on gives me peace of mind that in case there is a delay, I'm covered.

DO NOT pack chargers in checked luggage!

My husband did this about a year ago on a business trip from Boston to Brussels. His luggage was lost for over 2 weeks, and since he did not have his cell phone charger, he couldn't use his cell phone during the trip to keep on top of the lost luggage situation (it arrived home a week after he did after touring several European airposts courtesy of American Airlines/British Air). It was an enormous hassle.

Yes, airlines can lose luggage. Which is why it is a good idea to pack anything that can't be easily replaced in carry-on. But cell phone chargers are easy to replace (at least in the US).

Chargers go in my checked bags if I have them.

All of my camera gear and laptop gear goes into my carry-on, but I usually pack my cell phone charger in my checked bag. The cell charger is not something that would ruin my vacation if lost or damaged, but the camera charger is.

YMMV.

I consider the advantage to be the reduced weight -- power bricks weigh a TON (probably why people call them bricks :teeth: )

I pack my bricks in a child's zippered pencil box; keeps them tidy and lets me move it in a hurry if I need to shift weight between bags. If the airline lost the chargers I would order new ones to be overnighted to me; a spare charger is never a bad thing to own, anyway.

DH travels more than I do and his brick load was getting out of control -- I bought him an iGo. They are a bit pricey if you don't travel a lot, but *such* a useful gadget.
