Packing list for 1bdrm-anything you can add?

Yikes! Don't speak of bed bugs! Our oldest brought them home from tennis camp years ago. It took "grenades" (well almost!) to get rid of them. We built a new house a few years later. I made sure that the laundry room was right inside the door from the garage. We empty the suitcases there and wash everything we bring home. Then the suitcases go in the garage. Nothing hits the bedroom before it is washed. We then put the suitcases in plastic bags and sit them in the sun on the patio on the next hot day. Then they are allowed in our storage area inside the house. Did I mention my nickname is Monica? :rotfl:

To save room in packing soap/dryer sheets purchase the "purex 3in1" sheets. They are dryer sheets that have the soap and fabric softener built right in. Put them with the wash and transfer to dryer - they work great!
Other items to consider:
-camelbacks - save a ton of money not having to buy bottled water. we fill up every morning with ice at the dispenser and top off with water. Cold drink all day long!
- Pur faucet filter. Although the Kidani water is better than other resorts (different county) it is nice to have the filtered water.

Love my Camelback. But we fillt he bladder half full of water, put it in the freezer overnight, top it out with water. Been during the month of August and that water is still cold late afternoon. Just be careful the straw is out of the water when freezing. We did that once. :rotfl:

I heard the Purex sheets are bad on front loaders. Are the washers and dryers at AKV-KV front loaders. Are they HE washers? That will also make a difference in the type of laundry detergent you use.

The Purex 3 in 1 are compatible with HE washers.

I also bring aluminum foil and cling wrap.
Sanitizing wipes are a must. The first thing we do is wipe all the above, including door and cupboard knobs, switches, appliance handles - basically, everything that others have touched.

I second the aluminum foil - especially if you are going to use an outdoor grill and want to cook baked potatoes or corn on the cob. Cling wrap for leftovers. I don't use sanitizing wipes - too many chemicals.

lol, I agree. We intentionally do not sanitize our world! If you never come in contact with any germs, you body never builds up immunity! We live on the edge! We eat yogurt days after it expires, let the dogs kiss us...
we are hardly ever sick! I think the last time I had a cold was 3 years ago. Becky is in 2nd grade now and has only had 1 sick day since starting pre k.

I agree. My DS 14 has missed 1 day of school for illness since pre k. The one and only time he had strep. He is a good hand washer, his pediatrician recommended plain old soap and it seems he was right. DH hasn't called in sick in 20 years. I can't remember the last time I called in when I was actually sick!!!!!

OP -
If you plan on doing alot of cooking, I'd include a decent veggie peeler on your list.

That's a really good suggestion. I am adding that to my list.

I would recommend a shower scrungy, I would always forget to bring it and it makes a difference. I would also take a dish sponge just for quick clean ups! It makes a differenc when its faster!!

I also bring one of the suction cup hooks to hang it in the shower.

Oh - and bed bugs - there's an App for that!!! My friend was going to NYC, and the app showed you where bed bugs were reported. Unfortunately there were few places that didn't have them in NYC.

Definitely second the veggie peeler - the kids lived on carrot sticks and apples, so we bought one to bring. Bigger cups or water bottles are also a good idea.

Another idea would be cereal bowls. If I remember right, the ones in the villa were tiny, and we forever had to wash them right out so the next person could use them. I'm planning on buying a few cheap plastic ones when the summer stuff goes on clearance to bring with us.

Egads! There are sure alot neat and clean people out there! I am very fortunate that my kids and I are seldom sick. I will bring my Clorox wipes and wipe down some things. I also will check the beds. I have done this for about 13 years. We were on a trip once, and I was in bed and a huge water bug was crawling up my leg in the bed. Since then, I always check!!!

Here's a couple of things I would add if you have the space (I leave them in an Owner's Locker)

1) A wireless router. As DVC members, the internet access is free, but they only provide an ethernet cable. We took an old wireless router and it made it much easier to check email, etc on laptop and iPods.

2) If you will have 5 people in the 1-bedroom, I'd consider bringing an extra small bottle of shampoo and bar of soap. (i.e. if you have some sitting around from an earlier hotel visit). They replenish at Day 4, but if they only leave you one bottle to start (we got 2 bottles once... but other times they have only left one) and 5 people taking showers won't last that long.

3) A pair of scissors. These always seems to come in handy and don't take up much space.
