Ok, I have finally started to pack.

My question is have any of you packed your toiletries in a duffle (gym bag) then have it checked??? What is the likely hood of it all being damaged??

I only have 3 pieces of hard sided luggage and 2 gym bags that I was going to use.

What do you think???

If I decide to carry my toiletries in my carry on what can't I bring on the plane??? Hair spray, tweezers, nail clippers, matches, batteries???? Are these all OK.

Sorry for all the stupid questions but I appreciate all you guys help.

I've packed stuff like towels and shampoo in a military duffle bag before. I always put the plastic bottles in zip lock bags just in case anything leaks.

I probably wouldn't bring an aerosol hairspray can. I think the pressure can affect it. Not sure if it's okay to carry on the other things.:sunny:

I carried on stuff like nail clippers and tweezers on my last trip with no problem (I think, thankfully, they've lightened up on some of those regulations now that they've started to do more substantial things like x-raying luggage).

I always carry on essential toiletries now- airlines have misplaced my bags more than once.

Why don't you check with your airline for up to date information. We are not allowed to carry on tweezers, nail clippers, matches, scissors, or any sharp object. They must all be packed in our luggage.

DH just flew to Chicago for business, and he was able to carry on his razor etc without any problem. I think the post 9/11 "knee jerk" reaction has given way to a more moderated sensibility as far as tweezers etc go. I don't think there's mch a terrorist can do to harm anyone with tweezers, unless they are building a bomb on board the plane!

As far as toiletries, I always carry them on on the way down(if you feel better, carry on everything but the sharps and pack them in your checked luggage). On the way home form vacation, I usually pack the toiletries to make room for me to carry souvenirs. I just put the toiletry bag in a ziploc bag in case of leakage, but I have never had a problem.
