Packing for Land and Sea

Has anybody ever packed for a land and sea package separately? Like leave one suitcase in the car while sailing and then a smaller luggage bag for the cruise? We are only going on a 3 day cruise, and I would think a large suitcase would be rather annoying in a small cabin. Thoughts?

Also, totally new to cruising and I'm curious to know what the women typically wear? Dresses mostly? And when it says no tank tops is that more for men?? I couldn't imagine a woman not being able to wear a tank top to dinner! Most of my summer dresses are tanks! TIA

You certainly can leave a suitcase in your car at the port. For us, however, that would never work. We tend to take lengthy cruises (over 14 nights) and need all that "stuff".

Suitcases can be stashed underneath the bed, there's lots of room there.

Dress onboard is called "cruise casual". Basically, what you'd wear on a daily basis. The "dress code" for the Main Dining Rooms does say "no swimwear or tank tops for dinner". There's no specification "no tank tops for men, women OK". If your dress has thin straps (no sleeves) that's not a tank top. I will also point out that, generally speaking, the interior spaces onboard (dining rooms/theaters) are fairly cool. So, bring a wrap.

We have to fly in so there's no opportunity to leave a bag in the car for us. However; if I could do that I totally would, also, even though we take one large suitcase each, we use packing cubes for each leg of our trips and they are color coded. That way I don't have to unpack everything, I use my black cubes for WDW and my red cubes for DCL.

For our honeymoon we went to Mexico, flew back home to PHX, then flew to Disneyland a few hours later. For that we had 2 smaller bags in the car that we went to between flights and switched, worked perfect.

We have three days in the parks, followed by a three day cruise coming up. Plus two days driving on the front and back ends. There are only three of us, so I'm planning one suitcase for driving days, one suitcase for park days, and one suitcase for the cruise. Plus a carry on for stuff needed everywhere.

Of course, I haven't packed yet, and this is our first cruise, but that's the plan.

^^^ This ^^^ and highly suggest the packing cubes. We (there are three of us) each have our own color and I bought an extra set of grey ones for situations like this. We put DCL clothes in one set and WDW clothes in the other. Some cross over (like underwear, socks, pjs, etc.) but at least this way you can keep them separated. For my DS I sometimes pack a cube of extras that can be used for either trip if the weather is iffy like more t-shirts, shorts and extra pants.

We use the packing cubes for all our trips now and flying to Europe this past summer we packed a small cube for each of us with an entire outfit and brought with us in a small carryon suitcase on the plane just in case. I believe you mentioned you were driving so that's not likely to be an issue for you guys.
