I'm leaving in a week for HHI and beginning to think about packing. I know to take shorts and t-shirts, but I was wondering what I should pack for dinner each night. We don't plan on going to any "fancy" restaurants; we'll stick to more casual ones. But I've never been to the area, so I don't know if there are restaurants where shorts would be acceptable. Also, what is acceptable to wear to the BBQ at the resort?
(BTW--We are packing VERY light as we won't have much space for luggage. Thanks!)

Bring what you are comfortable in. To me dress code unless a restaurant has a specific one is an individual preference. I personally like to dress for evening dinner, by which I mean summer dress casual. You will see shorts and tees everywhere.

if you are cold in nature the restauants will have the air at full for the summer so sometimes a sweater or jacket is nice.

You can pack very lightly going to HHI. I seem to live in bathing suits the whole week! Do bring several bathing suits. We usually visited the beach in the morning and I would wear a different one in the afternoon to the pool or for a night swim.

As for the BBQ, wear your bathing suit and cover-up! The pool party starts right after! Its a great time! :)

We usually make simple dinners in our villa. But usually once during our week we go to Shelter Cove for dinner. Although my DD and I usually wear a casual summer dress or skirt, my DS and DH are in shorts and tees. The whole island is casual unless specified for certain restaurants. (of which I have not been too)

Have fun, we love HHI!!

Thanks for the replies. I was thinking of wearing shorts and t-shirts during the day (and of course, my bathing suit when we go to the pool or beach) and then changing into capris for dinner, but my DH and DS11 and DS13 will refuse to wear long pants at any time during the vacation.

Can you tell me more about the pool party? Is it not mainly for kids? Are adults in the pool, too? Is it crowded?

The pool party is definitley crowded, but a lot of fun. The games are mostly geared toward kids but adults are not excluded. They also do a couple of dances geared toward the adults. When we were there one dance was for the mom's, and then one for the dad's. It is my kids favorite night at the resort (daughters 15 and 9, and son 12.)

The pool party is for everybody!! Most of the adults are in the pool as well as the kids. Lots of dancing occurs on the pool deck and is for kids, teens and adults. As previous poster said there is also a dance geared toward only dads & moms that the kids just love to cheer on!!!! A few carnival type games are held right before the pool party on the side of the pool deck and they also have these silly contests like ice cream drop that are such a riot!!! It is a very fun family time. It is also my kids most favorite night and something they look forward to every summer!!!

Also be sure to check out a campfire at least one night for some more fun family times - and those smores are pretty tasty!!
