Having never been to DL or SoCal, I am unsure about packing for our upcoming trip. I know it will most likely be hot, but do temps drop a lot a night where we would need to pack jeans or jackets?
I'd like to know the answer to this question as well. On some websites they say to bring a jacket because it gets colder at night, but I'm wondering if this applies even in the summer months, since I will be taking my first trip there this June. Good question!
California weather can be somewhat unpredictable. Bring a light jacket just in case it's cool at night. It does get cold inside some of the rides like HM, SM, Soarin' and some of the shows.
More than likely you won't need anything. Up here in Nor Cal we get ocean breezes in the evening but So Cal doesn't cool off quite as much (plus DL is far enough inland to avoid that). I usually bring a light sweatshirt just in case. We went to WDW in 2007 with no jackets and froze..you just never know.
I have always bought the kids the zip off jeans ( jeans that go into shorts ) makes it easy in case it cools down at night. also we take wind breakers that are lined. that way if the ride is a wet ride, or its cooler out we slip them on. we put these in our small back packs to keep dry.
Agree with the folks above. August in SoCal is really hot. It is possible you might get cool evenings, or want a light jacket for some of the attractions that can be a bit chilly, but otherwise count on it being warm.
I think it all depends on what type of weather you are used to; if you are coming from a relatively mild climate you may not want anything however, from a warmer climate you may want a light jacket or sweatshirt handy.
Years ago, I lived in Southwestern Texas where it was typically 100+ every day from May until October; we vacationed nearly every year in Disneyland during the months of July through early September. It never failed that I would forget to bring a sweatshirt or light jacket for evenings and would get chilled and end up buying something to put on. I swear it was all the air conditioning from the stores cooling it off.
Years later I live in the Northeast-- we had a family reunion vacation over Christmas. I laughed and laughed at how people were wearing down coats, hats, mittens and talking about how cold it was; I wore short sleeve shirts every day and brought a very light jacket for evenings. I think the temperature ranged from 70 during the day and 60's in the evening. It felt like a beautiful summers day to me.
We are going again in late August/early September, I can't wait for an extension of my summer! My child will get a chance to actually wear her summer clothes long enough to actually get wear out of them. Summer lasts about a month here, or so it feels like it.
