Packing food?

We've only flown out of Canada (NB) once, the rest we've crossed at the border and flew out of Maine or NH, so my question is....

If we wanted to pack things such as muffins, croissants, water bottles, juice boxes, bananas, breakfast things.... stuck them in a suitcase and flew from home, would I get any hassle with customs for doing so? It would be a checked bag, and I'd only do this if we didn't need to pay for luggage (I can't remember if we do).

Food (specifically liquids) in checked luggage are just fine and you won't have any trouble with customs.... Except for the bananas or any other fruit.

I shouldn't have any troubles bringing my Keurig Mini should I? And the K Cups?

Your Keurig and K cups will be find in your checked luggage too. You just can't bring fruit, meat, etc.

I would not pack juice boxes to be honest. suppose they explode in your suitcase? A friend of mine packed moistened facial wipes in a ziplock bag, then put that ziplock bag in a bigger one. So it was double protected. Guess what? It exploded all over her suitcase. Everywhere. I wouldnt risk the juice. Also, bottled water is quite heavy. There is a weight limit.

I would consider ordering online thru garden grocer. They deliver to your resort. Also, if you have a rental car you can drive up to walmart or a grocery store and get all the stuff you need.

Actually the meat part is inaccurate. Youre prohibited to bring meat from international destinations only....but within north america its fine. So i'd go ahead and bring the meat.

I know if you try and bring meat across the border at land crossings they take it away. Customs always ask about meat and fresh fruit. I asked about canned fruit and applesauce. Yes you can bring canned fruit and apple sauce. I would call and check before packing meat or fruit. At land crossings it is the beef you are not allowed to bring across.

Food is cheaper in the US. I would only bring a few things in your carry on to get you through the airports and then order some groceries for when you get there.

We're packing food for our next trip in a couple of weeks. So far I have cereal, granola bars, fruit cups and brita water bottles ready to go. We'll buy milk and bread at the resort shop (no car for us!). I'm also adding keurig coffee pods (we have a mini in our owner's locker) and I usually pack disposable coffee cups w/lids so we can make coffee to go and toss the cup at some point at the park. (Having to carry waterbottles and coffee cups around a park all day drives me nutty.) We'll pack muffins and more snack foods too. I have hard-sided cases and I use whatever space is in one case - then we have an empty case to fill with souvenirs coming home! Works great and saves a bit of $ and time.

Totally agree. Even if you aren't renting a car and have the food delivered it'll be cheaper. No worries about liquid all over your suitcase or ruined food either.

I was recently in TO visiting family for a week. Went food shopping with my mom for a big bbq we were having. How soon I forgot! Holy sticker shock batman....and I live in a more expensive (couple miles out of NYC) area of the US.

I've packed muffins before....they don't fair well. I had them in a rigid container and each was cushioned in with paper towel. They came out broken and a crumbling mess.

A PP mentioned juice boxes exploding. What happens to containers that leak in your checked bags is a result of being crushed by other bags. They pack them in the cargo hold on top of each other so it's just the weight of other bags that cause things to leak. It's better to pack things like juice boxes frozen...if they will be able to stay at least partly frozen until the end of your flight. Also wrapping them in something absorbent like diapers, in case of a leak, is also a good idea.

I've packed liquids and wrapped and double bagged them without any issues.
