Packing Cubes

I love the packing cubes! I never have to dig around for stuff in the suitcase and when we arrive it's packing cube in drawer, unzip and done unpacking!

I use the zip bag savers that compress all the air out. I've always been able to pack a lot using them. Does anyone find they can pack more using the packing cubes or is it the same?

IMO packing cubes don't allow me to bring more than packing normally (my mom taught me to pack very efficiently) so using space savers bags is more space saving. But I only use space bags when I don't care about wrinkles, because it's practically impossible not to get wrinkles when you use them since the whole point is to compress everything.

They're not space saving in my opinion...but they are amazing for organization. I break my packing cubes down by items: one for tops, one for bottoms, one for underwear/ swimsuit, and one for all other things (like poncho, park bag, pjs). Its nice to be able to pull out one cube for the category of items you're looking for and not destroy your entire suitcase in the process!

+1
I love packing cubes for the organization, not for space saving. It is sooooo nice to be able to grab only what you need without digging through layers of other items!

I am not very good at searching for something without rumpling up all the other clothing, so having them organized by bag was awesome. Also, we stayed in a Poly Studio this last time and it was so great for the big drawer under the bed. The 5-cube set fit perfectly and kept everything I had for a 2-week trip perfectly organized.

I'm not someone who's particularly organized by nature and I found them useful for a Disney vacation. It was nice to have everything grouped and I didn't have to go pawing through the suitcase to find things.

I also used them for a weekend trip to separate the kids clothes which was useful (although not more than zip lock bags).

That said, my usual 'vacations' are to Wisconsin in the winter to visit family. Packing cubes are nearly useless for packing sweaters, sweatshirts, and jeans.

I started using packing cubes in 2012, and now I don't travel without them! I like being very organized and have things neat and folded nicely in my suitcase. The cubes are awesome and save so much room in my suitcase. When I unpack at the resort, I leave everything in their cube and just place them in the drawers. They are mesh and I was surprised at how much you can fit into them, even the small ones I have.

We use ours all the time....pretty much whenever we have to take clothes somewhere. (Swim class, sports practice..etc). We have several sets from IKEA so they were very cheap...$8 for the set of 4. When we go on a trip I use the flip fold jr. To fold everything uniformly....I love having some organization. Good luck!

Do you know what they call them or what dept they are in at Ikea? I can always use a trip there in the summer to see all the new stuff :) I searched packing cubes on their site and didn't get any products.

We use packing cubes and zip locs. Each child has a color, which makes it really easy for them to find their clothing each day. Inside the cube each outfit is in a zip loc. It's much easier for us to pack this way than it was when we used duffle bags with the zip locs (and saves a lot of space too!) We do laundry every day when we travel, so when I fold things up they go right back into the bags and cubes. The kids' room stays nice and neat and even the littles can easily dress themselves (in clothes that match!) :D

Thank you!! I looked all over the site and never found them. Now I see they are under Ikea Family Products, I never would have thought to look there when I couldn't find travel as a category. I will pick these up soon.

http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/60235114 Here you go, we love these...a few dollars more but worth it..good luck!

I tried seeing if they were in stock by me and it took me forever to figure out why the list of options was so short, it wasn't the US site. Unfortunately the US site doesn't have those on it, but there are a few things in their travel section I do like but they have limited stock at my store. Maybe they'll do new travel stuff with the new catalog this summer.

Maybe call the store, we have been at the twin cities and chicago locations lately and they are always in stock. Good luck!

I wasted a bunch of money on packing cubes because they were so highly recommended here. I think that 2.5 gallon ziplock bags work so much better.
I only get about 2 maybe 3 uses out of zip lock bags that I feel the money I save on packing Cubs will be

I LOVE my ebags packing cubes! I have a set of the medium and a set of the large. I use them on every trip. Sometimes I pack them by item- one for t-shirts, one for pants, one for pjs..... Other times I pack an entire outfit in each one. I used to use ziplocks but I always ended up ripping them and could never squeeze out all of the air.

I've been using the same ziplock bags for 5 years.

Me, too. I have some that I'm pretty sure have been used numerous times a year for closer to 10 years. I don't know for sure, but I suspect the ones that aren't lasting very long aren't actual Ziploc or Hefty bags. My sister bought a bunch of generic zip bags to use (after I told her how much I liked using Ziploc/Hefty bags for packing) and she said hers tore after one trip. And she could never manage to get all of the air out -- I'm guessing they weren't sealing tightly. I never have a problem getting the air out of mine: zip them shut all but an inch or so; roll the bag from the bottom up to the zipper; when the bag is completely rolled, close the zipper. Voila! Flat package of clothing.

I just looked at one of the ziplock bags I used on my last trip it is a ziplock for sure ( quart size double zipper ) and all I keep in this one is an extra pair of socks and a hair tie so it is not like I over pack it ( I think this is my 3 time using this bag ( 2 were day trips one was a 6 day trip ) and I think it may have one more use out of it. guess I am just not lucky with using ziplock bags
