Packing cubes?

I love my packing cubes. Mine are from ebags. Each of us has a different color, plus an extra one that things like electronics go in (batteries, chargers, memory cards for camera, etc).

Sign up for ebags and you get notified of sales. They are also on sunshine rewards and ebates if you participate with either of them.

I had never heard about these but ordered quite a few yesterday. They were cheaper then I expected and some youtube tutorials sold me on them! Plus with free returns and 10% cash back on ebates it was a too good not to give them a shot.

Thanks!

I have 2 sets. One ebag and one Rick Steves. They both are of similar quality. I love using the cubes

For small kids (under 10), if I'm packing a whole day summer outfit in each small cube (shorts/shirt/underwear/socks)...do you think I should plan 2 days per small cube? how many sets would fit into the slims?

since our kids are little, we like to pack one complete outfit per day as this helps them get dressed in the morning independently and keeps matching shirts/shorts together.

I would think putting 2 shirts, 1 pair of shorts, 2 pairs of socks and underwear per small cube would be fine. Maybe even 2 pairs of shorts, depending on how long they are and how thick the material is (I wear my jeans 2 or 3 days before washing them unless they get ucky). I just took one of my small cubes and put 6 rolled up adult medium "wifebeater" style tank tops (sorry, don't know the "proper" term for them) in it with no prooblem

There was a thread a while back about them and ebags having a sale, so I ordered two sets Forgot all about it! I will be trying them in May, but I have to admit I have no idea how they work. Youtube here I come.:confused3

There's not really much "work" to them. Just use them to separate stuff and then put them in your suitcase. Think of them as drawers for your suitcase ... but drawers that you have to play Tetris with to get them to fit sometimes :rotfl2:

They help a lot with the "shift" of clothing (you know, when everything falls to the bottom of the bag and gets all wrinkly and disorganized), too.

So excited! My cubes are scheduled for delivery today!......except I will be at work (boooooo) I can't wait to play "packing" with my cubes this weekend:rotfl2:

fyi, if you order the eBags ones.....the ones with the ugly patterns are cheaper. I personally didn't care what they looked like and saved some cash.

I've never heard of these before, but not quite understanding the concept.

So you're putting all your clothes into these bags... why? Is it so you have more room in your suitcase? Do you not unpack when you get to your room?

I'm the type that immediately hangs everything when I arrive so I'm assuming these cubes would not be a benefit to me?

yes, pack your clothes in the bags. this prevents opening my suitcase to find everything has fallen to the bottom and are messed up and wrinkled. they keep everything tidy. then when i get to the hotel room i just unzip them, fold the lid back and put the whole think in the drawer without having to unpack.

it is surprising how much more room you have in your suitcase with these and how easy packing and unpacking become. if your still unsure of the way to use them go to youtube and check it out. i would never travel without them again.

They're of particular use for people with children, especially if the children are old enough to get dressed on their own but not really old enough for their own suitcase, or for "matching" outfits. Get a separate color for each child, and the kid knows which one to grab when they get to the hotel. Or put one/two outfits in each (shirt, shorts/pants, underwear, socks) and have the kid just grab one each day.

If you're going on a trip where you'll spend one night in a hotel (like if you're driving cross country) you can just put what you'll need for one day/night in the cube and everyone toss them in a duffel bag instead of lugging the whole suitcase in for one night.

I use them for things that like to float everywhere, like socks and undies. I also like using them to put extra flip flops.

If someone is unsure if packing cubes will work for them I have an inexpensive way you can try them. I recently went to the dollar store an purchased some zip up sweater bags and a lingerie washing bag. I was able to pack 6 shirts ( 2 were sweaters in one and 4 pairs of jeans and a pair of dress pants in the other. I placed my undergarments, socks and pj's in the mesh lingerie bag. When I got to my destination my clothes were neat and unwrinkled. I folded everything. I was extremely pleased with the results. I am now going to purchase some real packing cubes and use a combination of the real thing and the alternatives for my family of 5. If you sew, I would also suggest making your own shoe bags. HTH

Another inexpensive way to try is to use the zipper packaging that new sheets / small blankets come in. I have used those in the past and have really like them. I've proved to myself that I like them enough that I did order some eBag packing cubes this week. :cool1:
