Packing Cube Questions

Alright, well tonight I filled my Pack it Flat Toiletry Kit, all I can say is I LOVE IT!!!!

I went from a Carry On that I always checked filled with toiletries to the Pack it Flat Toiletry Kit. The only think I don't have in it is my make-up and brushes...The make up may fit in there, I'm not sure though, but I can always throw the makeup in a baggie. My brushes won't fit in, but I'll just put them in the suitcases.

Thanks. Is this just for you or a family? I am a family of 4 and have a toiletry bag that I have to check with all the shampoo conditioner, meds, shaving creams, razors, ets. Thanks.

Quick help needed!!!!

I'm online right now ordering some of these! There will be 4 adults traveling next year on an 8-night cruise. So far I have ordered us EACH a set of the LARGE cubes (different color for each of us - I love that! LOL).

I have also ordered 2 sets of the SLIM packing cubes (in 2 new colors), one set is pink and the other is titanium. I figure that DS's DGF and I can share the pink ones, and DH and DS can share the titanium ones.

Does anyone think that we will need any more than these??? DH, DS, and I are typically light packers (after many trips, we've learned what we end up not using so have packed lighter and lighter for each trip!), but I think that DS's DGF may be a heavy packer. She's a young lady, enough said! :cutie:

DH and DS will be renting tuxes on the ship; so that's less to pack!

Anyway....any opinions on whether I should add more to my order??? :surfweb: Thanks!!!!

Add another packing cube nut! I use them to pack my son's clothes. It is much easier to use a small cube to pack for each day on the cruise. This way, I don't have to worry about getting to the end of the cruise with his last pair shorts that don't go with his last shirt! I just hand him a cube every morning and that's what he would wear. Made things very simple for both of us!

I pack a separate cube filled with swim clothes and a different one for PJs.

It even makes unpacking very easy because everything stays together.

OK, so several people have asked me how many of these things do we have for our family of 3 or they ask how many do they need blah, blah, blah. I never reallllly did an inventory before of what we have & since we're going for 15 nights I have been debating if we needed any more so I just did a count. We only have 2 colors between the 3 of us bcuz whenever I had ordered the first time I chose to go with a discontinued color that was discounted even more than whatever their reg. sale price was. So in this fugly orange color we have 6 larges, 3 mediums and 3 smalls. I think I started out with 1 set of each size for each of us plus one additional set of larges so that we'd each have 2 larges & 1 each of the med. & sm. Then at some point I ordered some bright green ones & in those we have 4 larges and 1 each of the med. & sm. Then I have 1 odd med. black one that I got somewhere else. (I don't like it as much so it's always used as an overflow.) This is a total of 10 larges, 5 mediums and 4 smalls. Then we each also have one 15" packing folder. I think I want more mediums as they will fit into our itttty bitttty 17" international carry-on suitcases. :rotfl:

For a one week trip or a summer trip this is pretty adequate. But winter clothes take up more room so I use more cubes in the winter than in the summer. I'm just really seeing right now how a few more mediums would be helpful for this particular trip this summer.:rolleyes1

I do not have the pack-it flat toiletry kit although it's tempting!:rotfl: I have instead, a tall, oblong case that zips shut. Inside there are 3 separate plastic zippered cases that velcroe in but I can remove them & pack them separately if I want. I like the way my case is made as I can put everything in it if we're just doing a road trip. OR I can separate liquids from meds or makeup & I can use one section in a carry-on & one in a checked bag or whatever depending on what has to be checked & what can be carried on. I just like how it allows me to configure my stuff in different ways. DH has a traditional black leather shaving kit and DS has a small zippered bag that's slightly smaller than DH's shaving kit. Neither of them use much in the way of products.:goodvibes

I just started packing (we leave very early Wednesday morning) and so far I'm impressed! I ordered a set for each of us (large, med., & small cube). In the medium cube I fit: dress pants, 4 dressy shirts, and 2 dresses (cruise dinner outfits)! All in the medium cube!! Wow.

I think that is a GREAT idea!

Hi everyone..
I, too, have the cubes in four colors for our family of 4 and will be using them for the first time for my Alaska Disney cruise this month.

My question is about cross-packing. What we usually do is cross-pack (or mix) everyone's clothing among our four suitcases. This way, if one suitcase is lost, we at least have some clothing in the other 3. One person won't totally lose all their clothing. So, I'll spread underwear in equal amounts between the 4 suitcases, socks, etc. This is a great idea, but how do I do this with packing cubes? I guess just mix clothing within the cubes.

Does anyone else do the cross-packing thing with cubes?

Having a different packing cube for each person especially if they are different colors makes cross packing in the same suitcase much simpler. It is much faster to sort out what belongs to who this way.

We did this on our last WDW trip and it worked great. We were always cross packers, but having things in cubes made the unpacking a breeze instead of a major pain. And despite the initial resistance from DH and DS, they both loved being able to just pop the cubes in the drawers. :thumbsup2

Got my eBags packing cubes today! That was quick, I just ordered them on Monday! :surfweb:

I love them already. DS20 tested out one of the large cubes and he was able to fit 5 pairs of shorts (bulky shorts with several pockets, heavy denim material), plus 6 t-shirts. And he folded/rolled them quickly, so I'm sure with a little more effort he could fit in more. Also, in one of the slim cubes he was able to fit 8 pairs of boxer shorts.

I ordered each of us a set of 3 large cubes, so we should be all set now. Also, I ordered 2 sets of the slim cubes, and I think that will be plenty for us to share.

I still want to order toiletry kits for us. But there are several styles so I'll take my time and check them all out and then order. I like that almost all of the toiletry kits have the hook on top, for hanging on the back of the bathroom door.

I'm a new eBags packing cubes fan!!!! :cheer2:

P.S. The colors represented on the web site look exactly the same as the products look in person! DS wants the black cubes, DS's DGF wants the grasshopper (lime green) cubes, I'll take the raspberry cubes, and DH will have the denim (medium blue) cubes. If DS23 decides to cruise with us, I'll order him cubes in titanium (gray). :cool2:

OK Here's a question...

For those who use the packing cubes, Do you roll your clothes or fold them.

DH thinks by rolling t-shirts or shorts that they will wrinkle. Where you start the rolling, since that is on the inside and tighter than folding.

Pros...What's your opinion?

We have always used the squeeze the air out bags for cruises, but it is very hard to repack those and suck the air out without the vacum when you go to leave :scared1:. I also usually pack all my partner and my things in one suitcase (rolled) and the kids in another. So that whole "luggage could go missing" thing is a huge issue for us. :scared1: On top of all of that, we drive the 8 hours to the port and stay over... which means we haul in all of our heavy luggage or we pack an overnight bag which is more luggage.

So I am thinking I can color code us and use one suitcase and even use a small for each to hold our overnight things instead of a separate bag. We can just pull those out and leave the suitcase behind.

We are doing a one week trip (10 hour drive) next weekend. I can try them out if I hurry. Now to find the raspberry for me.

I just bought 4 of the eBags sets for my family but haven't had a chance to try them out yet. DD claimed the "raspberry" and DS is getting the "grasshopper" so it looks like I'm getting either gray or blue ;) All of the colors are very nice and I really think these are going to make packing for our Med cruise so much easier. We're also spending 3 days in Barcelona before the cruise so I'm thinking these will be a great way to "unpack" without actually taking everything out and putting it into drawers loose. And all we should have to do to repack for the cruise is zip up the cubes and throw them in the suitcase. With 2 small kids I figure anything that makes traveling a little easier is well worth the money :rotfl:

ROLL, ROLL, ROLL!!! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

First, I iron the shirt / top if needed then I lay them face down & fold the arms/sleeves backward over the back as if I were folding it to put on a shelf. I try to make each item as close to the same width as I can for uniform size. Anyway, instead of folding them up I start at the hem & roll them up tightly. If you roll them tight & pack them in tight they don't wrinkle up too bad at all (depending on the material of course...linen & some cottons are worse than polyester & rayon blends). Smooth any wrinkles out as you roll. I also bring a travel size Downey Wrinkle Release which is like a total miracle product if you've never used it before. It usually takes care of any tiny wrinkles that bother me. I do the same with shorts / pants. ROLL, ROLL, ROLL. TIGHT, TIGHT, TIGHT!!!:goodvibes

(Give it a try - take some clean laundry fresh out of the dryer & pack a cube & leave it sit for a couple days. You'll see how easy it works & how little stuff wrinkles.)

:confused3 Don't know why I ever subscribed to this thread because NOW I HAVE to have these. :lovestruc I ordered two of the sets and they are scheduled to deliver on Monday. :woohoo: Can't wait to try them out. I got a grasshopper and a titanium (I think that was the color)

We're going to Paris for 4 nights then to Barcelona 1 night before the cruise and I am going to TRY to get what we'll need for these days in our carry-ons so we don't have to root around in the checked bags tooooo much until we get to the cruise. Since the international carry-ons size limits are smaller (17") and we're limited to 26 Lbs for carry-on items on Air France I am planning HARD. I did a "test pack" for DH (since his stuff is bigger) and was able to get 1 pair of Dockers, 1 pair of convertible zipoff cargo pants, 3 pair shorts, 4 T-shirts, 2 Polos, 4 pr. boxers, 1 bathing suit & a small toiletry bag in and it weighed just under 17 pounds. :thumbsup2 The cubes are definitely the easiest way to unpack and repack quickly. :thumbsup2

just received my two new sets from ebay. i already had a set so these add to it. i purchased a black set to put dirty cloths in for on the way home. i always keep my laundry separate but they tend to make a big pile so i thought why not. black is distictive so thats where the dirty stuff will go.
