Packing Clothes for Summer

Is this weird, extreme, a waste of time.

I was think about packing an outfit a day in quart zip lock bags for my two kids. I thought this way it would be labeled, easier to keep organized and such. I could also take an extra outfit to the parks incase of accidents.

My kids will be three and six. Our Trip is in July.

Just wondering what others thought or if this is just going over board.

I have always done that for my little ones/ It saves us soo much time getting ready at the resort in the mornings and they don't toss clothes all over!

This is what we have done on our trips. It just makes it easier to grab a bag in the early morning and not have to think about it!

I could be getting ready and DH was able to help the kids w/o having to ask me who was going to wear what.

I also labeled the bags for what day/park.

I always do this too. It's easier toss them all into the suitcase, then into drawers, etc. I do take a change of clothes for each...and if something gets wet, I've got a bag to put the wet stuff in.

I think this is a great idea. I'm 14 and I always do something similar. I always put my outfits I'm going to wear together at home and pack t in the order I need it, like last day at the bottom and first day at the top. This saves me so much stress in the morning and allows me to get ready much quicker.

If you do a search on gallon zip lock bags, you will see that packing complete outfits (including socks and hair bows) in zip lock bags is one of the most recommended ways of packing here on the DIS. Squishing the air out of those bags before you zip them, allows you to pack ALOT more in your suitcase though, so be mindful of luggage weight limits for your airline, if you are flying.

I used to use the gallon bags to pack even the adults clothes, until I discovered the packing folders and cubes from Ebags. I find they hold more in a smaller space than even the zip locks, plus they last longer than the zip locks and make organizing a suit case (especially duffel bags) a snap.

I ALWAYS do this! It makes fitting everything into the suitcases easier not to mention how much easier getting ready in the morning is! Also, for DH I use the big 2 gallon size bags. It's just as much a struggle to get him ready in the mornings as DDs!

Is there any other way to pack? I've been doing it for years and now I've converted lots of my friends to the "ziploc packing". It saves sooo much time. With the girls I even put their hair accessories in the bags - no searching in the morning for anything.

We have always done it for vacation. My DD started doing it for camp. The kids really made fun of her at first, but by the end of the week, she was the only one with clean clothes left and her clothes were dry everyday when she put them on. The bags were also handy to have around!

Well if you're crazy, then so am I! I have done this for each of the 4 trips we have taken with our five year old daughter. I'm big on avoiding plastic bags when possible because of the strain they put ont he environment, but I have reused the bags for every trip (I leave them in the suitcase when I unpack!) and it makes me feel less wasteful.

Not only does it make it easier to grab an outfit and go, but I would also grab an extra bagged outfit to put in the bottom of the stroller in the event that DD needed a change while at the parks. (I've used the extra outfit at the parks more than once!)

It probably is weird to some, but it's definitely not a waste of time.

I actually think it takes me less time to pack this way because I'm a little nuts about re-checking things. Since I know I have an outfit in each bag I can just dump out the bags and count to make sure I have the right amount for the number of days.

I don't pack socks and underwear in the bags for Disney in the summer though. I put each child's socks in one bag and underwear in another. We usually bathe before bed, so it's easier to have the underwear separate. They also don't wear socks every day depending on which shoes they choose.

I also liked the ziplock bags at Disney because I was able to just dump each kid's clothes into their own drawer of the dresser.

Since I learned this trick for our trip last year I use it all the time. My mom thought I was a bit nuts, but then she was very pleased when each kid was able to get out his/her own pjs and outfits when they're spending the night at her house and she didn't have to go digging through the bag to find anything.

NOT OVERBOARD AT ALL!! I did this last year and it was REALLY helpful. I packed DD and DS clothes together and if they were not in the bags it would have been a horrible mess in that suit case. Plus it was easy to grab a outfit for the park bag. AND I had a ziploc bag if I needed it for wet or soiled clothes!

Amen to that! I call DH #2 as in my second child. He knows it's true!

It's not weird - it's good planning! It also works for camping trips, visits to Grandma's, or any time your husband takes the kids without you along (the outfits my dd used to come home in after a weekend away with Daddy!) Kudos to you!

I have never had a wrinkle problem The clothes are folded neatly and they always managed to stay that way

No, not overboard at all. I highly recommend this method. I did this for the first time on our trip last July for our 4 kids. It was the most organized I've been on a trip. I also color code depending what park we go to - red on MK days, orange at AK, blue at HS, etc. Since we are a large family, I like for all of us to be in the same color out in public - easier to find someone if they start drifting away.

I roll everything into little "sausages" as my mom & I call them. lol!
Mimimal wrinkling and I hang everything up asap, adult shirts anyway. I can fit a LOT of stuff in a 21" carry on this way.

I've tried the ziploc thing in the past but didn't see the big deal. I felt like I was wasting a lot of bags and my boys aren't the least bit picky about what they're wearing. When I unpack, I put each shirt and shorts together in their drawer as a set and that's what they grab.

I do pack a few kitchen size trash bags just in case we need to bring home wet bathing suits

It's worth trying to see what you like and what works for your family.
