So, I got to go to Hobby Lobby today, woo hoo! But, I found they were more expensive than Walmart, and Walmart actually has a bigger selection. I didn't find everything I was looking for, but thankfully they had some Minnie material. They also had some remnant pirate material and I was glad to find that. Here is a picture of my stash!

How did I not know that Hobby Lobby sold fabric? I thought it was only craft supplies! Good to know, they're opening one in Rochester this summer! That's only a couple of hours away - I drove there when I was pregnant with DD to buy a Moutain Buggy Urban Double stroller (the BEST stroller I have ever had!!) DS and I did it in a day. Woohoo!

I went to the second closest Wal-Mart that has fabric, only to find out they're closing the fabric department. Everything was 25% off, so of course I had to stock up! Then I went over to Fabricland, found Harley-Davidson fabric for my Dad (he WON a bike :woohoo: at Father's Day - only months after my parents retired!!!)

OK now I'm rambling . . . But I was talking to a lady at Fabricland, about tear-away interfacing for appliques, and she suggested freezer paper. I bought a roll to give it a try - anyone done this before? Any tips??

Jessica I love your piglet outfit! So adorable. The prints for the pants are so cute.
I finished my mom's purse. I really hope she likes it!

I realized there is still a string in this picture. oops!

the back. My mom LOVES black and white polka dots and polka dots in general

DSCN0787.jpg

I added the pockets which weren't in the pattern and the 1st time I every made pockets or a purse for that matter.

I might make one for me for our trip!
This purse is adorable! Great job.
I'm hoping these pics are the right size.

This is the outfit I made for the first round of the Big Give

And this is the necklace that I made to match. There's also a bracelet that isn't shown.

So pretty! I love the outfit and the jewelry.

Just wanted to say good night to everyone! My induction is tomorrow at 7:30 am. I am still dilated to 5 cm and 50% effaced so hopefully I'll have a baby by lunchtime! I wish you all great sewing! I'll post pictures when I get home!
Congratulations! I am a little behind so you have had the baby by now. Hope you have a quick recovery.

Okay. This is my first attempt to add a photo using the photobucket account. Fingers crossed that it shows up in the correct size and direction.
Anyway, I feel like I have been part of the board since the beginning. I have been "window shopping" from page one and only recently pulled out my machine and started sewing for our September trip. I have made several outfits for my DD7, DD9mth, and DD2. If this photo post goes well, I'll try to add more tommorrow.

This was my second attempt at the twirl skirt. I didn't use a pattern and I made some of the squares 5 inches long and some 10. I love the look. I made the outfits for 4th of July and then we will wear them again in Epcot. I think my favorite fabric is the Minnie Dot.

I love all the outfits on the board. It seems like I spend more time browsing than sewing. SO MANY CUTE IDEAS.
Great job it is adorable!
Here's what I have done so far for my MAW Big Give contribution.

I was originally planning to use a variety of blue, cream and pink prints for ruffles in the back like I did for the Snow White dress I shared recently. However I got to thinking that the ruffles might add too much bulk so I was thinking it might be better for packing to do a simpler back, perhaps stripwork of a few prints with a ruffle at the bottom. That would also be easier to touch up with an iron if needed (although I don't touch an iron when I'm on vacation I won't assume others are the same LOL). What do you all think?

What a Beautiful Cinderella applique! I love the idea of blue, cream and pink! Can't wait to see the finished product.

I am amazed at the skill and creativity you people display on a daily basis. I am a novice sewer, have made a few costumes and easy skirts the last two years. I have yet to do a button hole or zipper, so feel very newbie-ish!!

Anyway, I just finished my first twirl skirt from one of the bookmarked tutorials!! Thanks so much!! My DD8 is twirling away. Sadly, I found you guys when she was too old to really enjoy the major ruffles and stuff.

I don't know how you guys crank out so many. The simple skirt took me about 6 hours!!!! She is a big kid, so the bottom layer was 180" around, so there was a lot of hemming and gathering. I used dental floss as I read somewhere on here, and it made things SO much easier!!!!

I bow to your superiority!!!:worship: :worship: :worship:

Sadly I cannot post a picture...never have mastered downloading from my camera. My DH is an IT by profession, so I've never bothered to learn much computer stuff. Getting tutored is on my list!!!

Anyway, AWESOME!! AMY

These are very cute! What's on the front of the boys shirt? I'd love to see that a little closer.

it is an iron on , i scanned the shorts fabric into the computer and used it as a background to mickey on a motorcycle and wrote born to be wild using the scanned in print of the fabric.

OK everybody-

This is Definetely off topic, but i need to know

What are y'all packin' in your 4th of July pic-a-nic baskets??

I desperately need ideas! So far I have Fried Chicken, potato salad and Snicker salad. What else can I add?? Please Dis-boutiquers..... you my only hope!

She isn't to old for ruffles! My dd8 still wears them and I just got the Justice Just for Girls catalog (her fav store) and half the skirts in there had ruffles I was so happy!

Tomorrow is the day she gets her 1st pettiskirt from my mom and if she doesn't love it a twirl about I think my mon is going to have a heart attack! :rotfl2:

Sounds yummy But since DD can't have any of those on of those would be in our basket so we just made reservations! LOL We are headed to Either PF Changs or Texas De Brazil for dinner. Both have Gluten free stuff for her.

On a sewing not eI just did button holes for the 1st time YIPPEE! I conquered my fear! I finished DD dress! When she finishes her chores I will take pictures!

Which Walmart is 25% off? Is it the Vaughan location by chance?

Here is my latest And i have aHUGE thanks to Wendy for this one!!!!!!!:cheer2:

As I said i actually did the button holes:cool1: they weren't as hard as I thought! Next time though I think i will make one big button on this pattern. I know the way the button lays is wrong but I screwed up on the back part of the dres hence why I am not letting you all see it:rotfl: I was think I needed to make the pattern bigger so i made the neck part bigger ad did it wrong! by the tim eI realized it part of the back was already on and sewed really well so it wasn't coming off! The front came out better.

You can't see it in the picture but the light pink material has silver sparkles running through it.

Since I am no longer speaking to my darling husband and my Aunt (who is ever so critical of my weight) will be here I just searched for a recipe for Applebee's Red Apple Sangria (which is heaven in a punch bowl) and I am going to make a HUMONGOUS batch of it tonight so the fruit has time to soak up all the liquor.
I'm laughing...but I am not at all kidding. 2 nights ago DH almost made me cry at dinner b/c he is in this cranky, mid-life, My life isn't the way I thought it would be THING. So I went to the bathroom about in tears and when I came back to the table I ordered this drink. After about 1/2 of it the waitress came by and asked how things were. I said "better, now" And B said "you can tolerate me now?" I said "yes there is thin sangria buffer between us that makes you bearable." :rotfl:
So far that's all I've got planned.

Everything takes me 6 hours.;) Zippers are overrated anyway. Now button holes you might have to cave and figure out. I'm sure your 1st twirl skirt if FANTASTIC. Your DD clearly loves it and THAT my dear is the only opinion that matters. Can't wait until you get DH to upload a pic for us to see!!!

The boards awfully slow today, I wanna wish everyone a happy and safe 4th of July before everyone logs off for the day. I have a birthday party for my grandfather (his 75th b-day, his 1st b-day party) on Sat. and a 5th of July party that evening so I will most likely see you all bright and early MONDAY! ENJOY your weekend!!!:wizard:

PF Changs...Yum

Which Walmart is 25% off? Is it the Vaughan location by chance?

Nope, the Cambridge location has 25%. They told me that the Guelph store will have fabric for about another year. I was at Square One today - they still have fabric, and the store at 401 / Winston Churchill still has a fabric dept. also. Where are you? Do any of the stores near you have fabric?? I'm looking for Mickey!!!

WHAT is Snicker Salad?!?!? Sounds so yummy!!!

Since I have never been a picnic, I have no advice. But I'll be up in Maine enjoying Lobster.

I just stuck it on w/heat n bond and did the zig zag that is the standard/default width and spacing on our machine. Time will tell how it holds up, but I don't think it will fray a whole lot :confused3 I've made frayed appliques that don't even fray that much :rotfl: but I'm hoping the heat 'n' bond will help keep it from fraying. If it does fray, then that will be the look I was going for all along, right? Luke made Tessa the cutest thing (you already know what it is) and it went in the mail Monday, so hopefully you'll get it soon!
I'm going to have to try one of those appliques sometime! I know what you mean about making frayed appliques that didn't fray. That's what happened with Sawyer's Lightning McQueen jean shorts with the appliques. I've washed them quite a few times and they never frayed.

The edges shouldn't fray at all. Mine don't. I can't quite tell how far apart they are IRL but I have never had an issue and go as wide as 7 or is it long, either way, on my machine without any fraying!
Oooh, that does sound nice and easy!

I don't remember seeing tha before. How cute!

I LOVE it! It absolutely does NOT look like pajamas (and neither did your newest creation jham)!! I think it's absolutely adorable!!

Ok what is a placket? remember i am still a VERY newbie to sewing!
I may have my mom look at the pattern when she comes tomorrow and see if I can get her to make a lining template.
Don't feel bad! I had no idea what a placket was when I first read CarlaC's bowling shirt test pattern. I told her she needed to put a definition in for us!

LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!!! Did I mention that I love it?

I think it looks absolutely perfect as it is!!! SO cute!!!

Hi from a window shopper :)

I've been sewing up a storm for dd8, though all non-Disney sundresses and skorts. Now I want to move on to some Disney items for our trip in 42 days :)

I'm looking for some Disney PARK clipart or coloring pages for appliques, like the Tree of Life or the DHS sorcerer's hat or a ride logo, etc. I've searched the bookmarks, googled and checked all of dd's WDW coloring books to no luck. Since I also have a ds15 and a dd13, I can't use princess-y or cutesy designs for our matching shirts.

I do not have fun software to manipulate images, just Paint. And my tech support (ds15!) is currently hiking in New Mexico with Boy Scouts for another week.

Any ideas or links would be greatly appreciated :) Thanks!

If you want it to fray, you can cut the fusible about 1/4" smaller than the patch to be appliquéd. Then you can zigzag or straight stitch along where the fusible ends. That will allow the fabric to fray a bit more than if the fusible goes all the way to the edge.

I'm near the Vuaghan store, and they still have fabric. In terms of Disney fabric, I have noticed Winnie the Pooh, Tinkerbelle and Cars. They haven't added any new fabric since around March though.

Thats what I was thinkin...

okay every time I try to type an apostrophe some weird search tool bar pops up at the bottom of my screen... whatever.

I was just on Alicias PTR and seeing them open all of the outfits has made me decide to leave work to go work on my BIG GIVE outfits. Of course, now it has to have matching shoes, bag, bracelet, necklace and hairbows!!:rotfl: :rotfl: Its (theres that stupid quick search thing again!! ) bad enough I have gotten myself stuck doing an applique, however basic, that Im not quite sure I can pull off. Well (there should be an apostrophe there too) just have to see.

Yep...need to know about the snicker salad too...sounds yummy!

I finished DD's 4th outfit. I love the way it turned out. She likes it a whole lot too!
