Just in case ya'll thought I was laying around all week while the kids were gone, I'll show off something I did. I have no idea if it will fit a human child, it's a panel of Marie I got from :wizard: and then I shirred the back of the peasant blouse. Of course all the ruffles on the skirt took the longest because I refuse to learn how to use my ruffler. When Megan comes home I will see if it fits and then I plan on making another for the big give.

Oooh I love it! It's adorable. And I'm glad you haven't been resting or relaxing or anything with the kids away!
:(

Sorry to have been mostly absent this week but I have been going crazy getting ready for our beach trip. I don't have pics of all the customs yet and I still have one more to do tonight (we are leaving in the am) but I wanted to share this one because I love how it turned out. I will take lots of pics and post when i get back. By then I will have probably 100 pages to catch up on. It is only like 15 now. LOL Well here it is, I fell in love with this whale fabric at joanns. I am making russell a shark outfit to coordinate.

Mickey is adorable! I love it so far. I can't wait to see how it looks on Megan!
We are the lucky ones!

I showed him your post! :thumbsup2 He smiled :thumbsup2
Wow Sixteen! :car: Is he driving?? Happy Birthday Cory:cake: :bday:

Yes, it is the simply sweet dresses and tops...

Thank you! I thought about teacups, but I wanted the applique to really disneyize it. KWIM? I still haven't made up my mind though!

My tip is... You can do it!!! Seriously though, when I first started sewing, I did more applique than sewing, and I mostly recommend that you use stabilizer underneath your fabric! Also, bobbin thread really helps the stitches on top to stay nicely packed together. There have been some wonderful tutorials on this thread for more tips! Check the bookmarks!:thumbsup2

I had two major issues that I was unhappy with... The first is that the outlines are all done in the colors of the fill (or fabric) and I wanted them done in black. Especially since I was doing a white rabbit on white fabric. Fine, just change the thread right? But they are all connected and can't be separated, so he would end up with a black tail and black eyeballs, and well... you get the idea. I was able to do most of it, but had to babysit the machine in order to change threads... very annoying and I don't want to do it again!

The more major issue is that there are, in many places, WAY too many stitches. Especially satin stitches over satin stitches. I turned my machine down to 350 stitches per minute (it does 800) and tried to take it slowly, but I still bent or broke THREE needles doing that darn design! Very, very frustrtating....:headache: :headache: :headache:

Thanks! The Queen of Hearts is an embroidery design I got from a seller on ebay. I have stitched out four designs from her at this point and have been happy with two and pretty unhappy with two...:confused3 This one was easy enough, but the appliques in general are VERY putsy and this one has quite a few fabrics to add. I love how it turned out though! I just wish the details of her face were in black - might try to change that the next time...

The Mater is from a wall panel that has Lightning McQUeen (DS's fave) and Mater. I did the Mater first in case it didn't work!:rotfl2: But he loves it!

THanks for the tips! I think you should add a rabbit and the teacups! But, I have a fondness for Teacups!!:surfweb:
Teresa: I really hate taking pictures of myself but I will honor your request
here is me this morning (hate how the humidity gets to my hair!!!!!:scared1: )

wore the shirt to take the kids to school it was funny to me that I got a lot of compliments ( I am mostly in tshirts and sweat pants maybe that is why:rotfl: ) because is very easy and cheap to make (1 yard - paid 2.00 )

This is my Jonathan wearing the shorts I made for him to school (10 more days to go:faint: )

Got blisters in my hand (right ) from all the cutting I did , is there a brand of scissors that are made to avoid blisters ,I paid 18.00 for my scissors to me they are not cheap but they are heavy and hard to use

Linnette

Sorry about the blisters :headache: . My sister has the spring loaded scissors, they are nice! I use a rotary cutter for straight designs. Hope you find something that works for you.

You look so cute in your outfits.:cutie: I really like the belt with the top. Your DS's shorts look great! Thanks for sharing your photos.

My daughter's crab outfit almost finished. I ran out out bias tape! I used the tension technique to ruffle it. Works like a charm!

No, you're right, the rabbit make it Disney for sure. I hope you can get it figured out.

I am working on my Big Give Project and I need some help.

I am trying to use my Singer Futura to embroider a Mickey head onto the fabric.

But the machine is pulling the bobbin thread up through the fabric. I don't want the white thread to show. I am using Sulkey 100% polyester Bobbin Thread.

I am using Black Guterman Rayon thread as the top thread. I also have some Guterman Black 100% polyester thread.

Uggh. I just want this to look nice! Should I use the Black Polyester thread in the bobbin?

Mine has looked like that happened to me when I forgot to change the foot--I had on the sewing foot instead of the embroidery foot. And oh yes, I've done it more than once. :headache: (I have a Brother though, not your machine...)

Wow, that is one cute outfit! It even looks gorgeous on Mickey! :rotfl: Seriously, Stephanie, didn't you at least have a Minnie to put the dress on? ;) What happened to your plan to use one of the neighbor's kids? :lmao:

Oh my goodness, that is so adorable!! Your DD is gorgeous, too! I LOOOVE that whale fabric!!

What a little cutie you have! The crab outfit is darling!

I would just do it my hand...that's how I do my appliques.

I may be wrong, but I think her point was that she has a new machine and wants to use it. There is a point that it may be easier to sew by hand, and then there's a point that it just doesn't matter, you want the machine that you paid lots of money for to work! I've been there, that's why I offered advice on how to make the machine work.

I had two major issues that I was unhappy with... The first is that the outlines are all done in the colors of the fill (or fabric) and I wanted them done in black. I HATE that! I don't understand why designers don't split up those details. I have a princess that I won't use for that very reason. It's a real pain!

PRECIOUS! You know we're all gonna be dressing our Mickey's & Minnie's now, right?

Thank you for all the helpful tips!

I am using a cut away stabilizer on the back it is pretty heavy.
I switched to Black thread in the bobbin. It turned out GREAT.:cool1:
So I switched on the camera to take a photo and it says the battery is dead.

I will have to charge the battery before I can share pictures.

Thanks again for the tips.

OH MAN! I can't wait to see it! I'm glad it worked out for you.

You did great! It looks like the tension technique is work out well fo ryou.

You and your son are so cute! Thank you for posting pictures.

I use a rotary cutter for straight lines and regular scissors for curves. I do have a rubber handled spring scissors like Heather is talking about and I use them for scrapbooking. They are really great: I take them in when I am volunteering so I don't have to use the crummy school scissors.

I use a stablizier on all appliqués to prevent this. The iron-on tear away kind is great. HTH!

Sorry about that...I quoted you by accident and not the OP. I wasn't questioning your advice. You guys would know WAYYY better than me...I do mine by hand because my sewing machine is so old that there is no other option!

No harm, no foul!

Here is Madis Ariel outfit I am going to add Ariel ruffles to the shorts thats why they are not hemmed yet.

I am also making Katie the same outfit and now I am thinking of making myself a top.

When I appliqué, I loosen the tension on the upper thread so it's easier for the machine to pull it through to the back. Don't forget to adjust it back to the normal setting when you're ready to do other sewing. :)

BTW - I occasionally have problems with white bobbin thread showing through or where a line of stitching on black overlaps a light color stitching. I'll admit I "cheat" and use a fabric dye marker to make the light threads less noticeable. A sharpie marker might work, too. Shhhh don't tell anyone... it's a secret?
