Hi all. I am not normally a sewer (read: I don't even own a sewing machine); however, I'm thinking about making an outfit for my daughter for our trip in January. I have used my mom's sewing machine recently to make my son a Jedi Robe for our last trip during Star Wars Weekend. I'll post a picture so you can see it.

I'm looking for any recommendations you might have for a beginner to make. I'd love to make her a two-piece style outfit.

Here is my son wearing the Jedi Robe I made:

I haven't had much time for anything lately, but have still been checking in. I have been here since about page 10 or so of the first thread.

I have made 2 more outfits that I haven't posted pics of yet, simply because I haven't had a chance to even look and see if any good ones came out. I made my dd a Care bear shorts set for her birthday party and a dress for the next day for the family party. I'll look through and see if any good pics came out within the next day or so.

Michelle and Veronica have really cute designs. I had some designs made up for shirts for the plane for the family. Now I'm just hoping my crappy printer is up to the task.

HEATHER...Did you make yours yourself or did you save the design and download it to Zazzle or something?

Where are the Disign board i couldn't find them the other day i wanted to check them out.

I just bought tickets to Mickey's Halloween Treat! Or as they are now calling it, "Mickey's Trick-or-Treat"       Last year we went on Halloween night. This year we will be there earlier. The kids are so excited about having TWO HALLOWEENS!!! It didn't sell out really fast so this year I'm surprised that the tickets on that night are a lot more money than the other nights. :confused3 We had a blast though! This year I hope Luke can stay awake. Now I have to figure out costumes, like should the kids wear their regular Halloween costumes, or should I make a bunch of Disney ones for the family? Last year we were all pirates. This year Jayden so far wants to be Elphaba, but I would love to have her be Miley Cyrus with her black petti, so if we're doing two Halloweens maybe she can be both. I have a Wicked Queen costume I bought from the Disney store a few years ago. It would be fun to be Fairy Godmother, but that might be kinda hot. (not smokin' hot :lmao:, just sweaty hot)

How fun! we are doing MVMCP but next yr I am hoping to the the Halloween party!

I Need Help! Does anyone have a girl that you sew for that is a size 6? I need to know how long a peasant top should be if it hits just below the waist. I'm having trouble finding measurements. Does anyone know? OR, if you were extending the portrait peasant bodice to make it hit just below the waist, how many inches would you add?

I just measured my size 6 daughter and this is her measurement, and her shoulder to just below the waist is 14 inches. Now if you want it to hit mid hip that is 17 inches. She is pretty leggy (over 4 feet tall but its all legs). Dont know if that helps but i just used her measurements to start to make the peasent twirl toppy thing

lovesdumbo,
Please let me know how the Keys to the kingdom tour is I am itching to do that. every time i take the kids to my ped he tells me how great it was. i just call him a show off!
I'll let you know. I almost did it 2001 but didn't want to take the time to do it on a short trip and that's the problem-it would hard to do on a long family trip and I don't want to do it on a short trip. So it looks like it should work out well this time. We're going for 2 weeks-our longest trip yet! For a week in the middle a friend & her DH will be coming and over the weekend they are there my friend from FL and her DD are coming. So we figured we'd go to Fantasmic on Saturday night let my DH, kids, my friend and her DD sleep in and swim in the morning of Sunday while my other friend, her DH & I go to Crystal Palace for breakfast and do the tour.

My friend's DH actually did the tour in 2005 so I think it says a lot that he wants to do it again rather than try something new.

I did the Segway around the world tour last year and really LOVED it!!!!!!

WOW!!! You did an awesome job on that robe. What a cutie he is!!!

I have really loved Carla's patterns from www.youcanmakethis.com. Her easy fit pant pattern is a wonderful pattern-you can make shorts, pants, capris ect up to size 10. For a top I like the clean lines of her A-line top but her Simply Sweet top is really cute too and looking at the gathering you did on that robe I don't think you would have any trouble with that pattern.

As your new favorite poster, I feel obligated to let you know.

MY SISTER IS A FRAUD!!! Her middle name is JOYCE, not JOY!! She is a happyness imposter!!!! Oh the shame, the shame. :sad2:

Hey now!!! I've EXPLAINED to you BEFORE that it's not a NAME! It's a DESCRIPTION!!!! :rotfl:

This thread has been a little bit slow. Maybe everyone is taking their summer vacations this week. I rememeber back in the 3rd thread (or around there) it was going so fast, you had a hard time reading everything and keeping up.

So, how many people are still here from the beginning? I cam in on the 6th page of the 1st thread.

Well, everyone have a great day.
I posted on the first thread..... I tried to find my first post, but I'm having trouble! It was near the end of May, I believe, right after we got back from Disney. I'm soooo glad I found all of you!
I have a Trip Report confession:
I haven't read nay of yours or Teresa's. I don't like reading them until they are finished. Fairly selfish of me, I know but I hate spending all that time reading and getting "attached" to the writer to only have the report die before it is finished. I also have a hard time reading TR's in spurts - I forget what I have read and end up re-reading things.

Heather and Teresa, what day are you writing about now and how many more to go? I really want to read your reports.

You know, I TOLD Heather there were people like you on the board just the other day!! She looked at me in disbelief!!! :lmao:

I'm still here. I posted on the first page of the first thread.

I guess I need to go check it out!

JUST WONDERED!
Has anyone noticed my new ticker?

YEAH SHANNON!!!!

Say it ain't so!!!!

And to think .................... Just yesterday I was trying to convince DD that her next baby should be named Teresa Joy. The shame indeed. :sad1:

 Guess I'll have to go to Heather Sue now for the next grandchild's name. ;)

Now now, come on, I explained, it's a DESCRIPTION!!!! (plus, on another site I signed up for TeresaJoyce wouldn't fit as a username, and it cut it off at TeresaJoy, and well, I thought that sounded pretty cool!)
Our January 2009 trip is just ME and HUBBY! I guess it could be considered an "anniversary trip", except that our anniversary is December 30th, and we'll celebrate 14 years this year. SO, no one really celebrates the 14th anniversary with a trip, do they? The last time we had an adult only vacation together was when we celebrated our 10th anniversary. We're really looking forward to enjoying the World in grown up style!
I would consider it an anniversary trip! Then, you'd get to wear those cute little buttons!
Here is my Big Give outfit for Isabelle. I hope it fits! My model is I would think smaller, but not too sure!

I decided to go with lounge pants and a t so it could be worn to bed or just to lounge around in. I have seen so many beautiful outfits and think she'll probably have plenty for all days!

I think that is just adorable Jessica!!!!

By the way your model is standing, whenever I see the picture, I think it's Lydia for a split second! That model wouldn't happen to have a birthday in December, would they?
Heather I cannot believe that I have misse like 5 updates...I don't know where I was but I am trying to catch up!! Then I have to update my own. ADD IT TO THE LIST!!!:headache:
...t.

Oh T! She is tricking you!!! She just broke her last installment up into 5 parts!!! You didn't miss anything! :rotfl:

Is it pitiful that I LOOVE reading Heather's trip report, even though I was actually there!?!? I thought this monster update was too short! I wanted to keep reading!

Love everything that has been created lately!!! I'm trying to finish up some last minute 4th of July outfits, will post pics when they are complete.

BTW, I have been meaning to ask.....what is with all the rage of the bobbin winder????? I picked one up the other day at Wal-Mart ($4.00 on clearance from $30) b/c everyone seemed to be getting one and I didn't want to be left out! LOL
OH MY GOODNESS!!!! I'll have to scout out our Walmart's!!! They were doing inventory the other day, I wonder if they marked them down yet. I want one so bad! I hate winding bobbins!

There are lots of tutorials in the bookmarks, and even lessons for the beginning sewer. A full skirt with elastic at the top is just about the easiest thing in the world to make. And, I think a peasant top is really easy too. There is a pattern for both of those in the bookmarks.

But, I have to recommend CarlaC's Easy Fit Pants and her Simply Sweet Top and Dress patterns too. They are really good for a beginner, because they take you through everything step by step. You can get the patterns on http://www.youcanmakethis.com I also recommend her Portrait Peasant dress pattern (that you can make into a blouse as well). Well, actually, ALL of Carla's patterns are great!!! Plus, she's a fellow Diser!

I like that idea! But what if we want to celebrate again next year? I guess it could be the second annual celebration of our 15th anniversary? :rotfl:

SOMETHING HAPPENED TO MY QUOTE! Someone helped with a measurement that I needed for a shirt I'm making. Thanks! That's exactly what I needed to know.

Happy Canada Day!!!!!

To all the Canadians! And anyone who needs a reason to celebrate today!!

Stephanie
Well, Happy Canada Day to you, too!! I hope you didn't read my mom's comments about Canada in Teresa's TR today...:rolleyes1
She didn't mean it, honest!!

Say it ain't so!!!!

Yes, I think Heather Sue is a much better choice! :thumbsup2 But, my middle name is actually Suessical. Yes, I'm a FRAUD, too!! :rotfl2: ;)

I LOVE IT! Look at that adorable little Piglet! SOOO cute! Isn't it fun sewing girl stuff, too?

I know you wouldn't dress Dallas up in that outfit, right? Because, you know, we might recognize him even with his head cropped out. :rolleyes1
I'm starting to rethink finding a ruffler for you. :rotfl:

HEATHER...Did you make yours yourself or did you save the design and download it to Zazzle or something?

I made it myself. I got the design from a Disigner and then I erased the name that was on it with paint shop pro and added HeatherSue and TeresaJoy to it.

Wow! For someone who says she is not a sewer, you did a fabulous job!!

Let me just jump in here and say that you will NEVER EVER NEVER NEVER ...NEVER catch me hand sewing. I'm far too impatient for that! It's why I don't really knit. I like the accomplishment of finishing projects far more than their actual creation. I actually only tolerate sewing, it's the planning, pattern and fabric picking and then the beaming at what I created that I love.

With that I'd like to say a fond Good Morning to my sewing sisters and brothers :goodvibes Can't wait to see what ya'll post today!

...t.

Thanks everyone who helped me    my upcoming trip!!

I am SOO with you on the hand-sewing! I also like the planning and the finished product better than the actual sewing. Actually, I don't mind sewing, but I HATE cutting fabric!

I'm with the both of you!!! I avoid hand sewing at all costs. And have been knownto procrastinate starting a new project just because I LOATHE cutting out the pattern and fabric!

Looks great! Logan is gonna love it!

I've finished my first Big Give outfit today (FINALLY!). All that is left is to finish the necklace that goes with it. I'll finish that after dinner and take pics of everything

Hmm, this model just happens to have a December birthday and wasn't all too thrilled with helping me out! Wondered how long it might be before someone noticed.

LOVING the jedi robe! That has been on my DH's wish list for a LONG time for me to make!

I agree with Carla C's easy fit pants. The directions are well laid out even when starting them at 11 pm at night!

Thanks for all the compliments on the BIG GIVE outfit. I am just honored I am able to participate and do something for the family, the outfit alone just doesn't seem enough.

Thanks for the compliments on the robe and thanks for the recommendation of the website. I'm going to check it out now!

My dd can wear a size 6 but length wise she needs thinks much longer she is also all legs. Any chance you can have the mom of who you are making it for measure the kid? Kids sizes are funny. If you go by the weight on the sizes my dd should be a 5 but she is so skinny she would wear a 5 or a 6 but since she has long legs she needs a 7 or an 8 but they are usually huge every where else. Sorry I am no help!

I'll let you know. I almost did it 2001 but didn't want to take the time to do it on a short trip and that's the problem-it would hard to do on a long family trip and I don't want to do it on a short trip. I might make one for me for our trip!

I have NO idea what I'm going to make them! I'm leaning towards more matching outfits at the moment, but I don't know!
