Package vs. Room Only?

It has been 4 years since my last trip...

Back then, if you did a room only reservation, you had to make a deposit equal to one night's stay and the rest was due at check in, and you could basically make changes to the people in your room up until check in.

And if you did a package, you had to have everything paid 45 days out and no changes after that point.

Does anyone know if this has changed? Is there a thread out there regarding the differences between room only and packages (about deposits and changes to ressies)? I could not find one, but that just may be me...:confused3

Thanks!

Lynn

Help? :)

I am a little more awake this am...off to search for the answer again! I know I should know this! Especially if a guest ever asks me at the store!

Other than the option to buy the Disney Dining Plan with a package, the only real differences between a package and a room-only reservation is the payment terms.

A package requires a $200 deposit with the balance due by 45 days before arrival. There are cancellation penalties that kick in after that 45-day mark.

A room-only reservation requires a deposit equal to one night's room rate plus tax, with the balance due at check-in. This can be particularly advantageous if, for example, you know you won't have sufficient funds to pay for the trip 45 days out but you'll have plenty of money by your arrival day. cancellation penalties don't kick in until 6 days prior to arrival.

A package also gets what I consider tiny little perks, like vouchers for a few things (free keychain at Planet Hollywood, one free round of mini-golf, etc.) and a couple souvenir luggage tags.

Ahhh...what a few hours sleep will do for you! Found the above response in May 2012 from CleveRocks!

Thanks!

You can make changes to a package within 45 days of arrival, but there could be a change fee. It's often waived if your change increases the cost of the package, but charged if you're reducing your total cost. If the change is within something like 2 weeks or 10 days of arrival there's an additional $15 fee.

If you cancel the package within 45 days of arrival you lose the $200 package deposit and the cost of trip insurance if you have that. If you just postpone the trip the deposit will be applied to your new package.
