Package Pickup -- Is it worth the time?

I'm curious about how package pick-up works at DLR. My understanding is that you can send packages that you buy at gift shops in the parks to the front of the park for pick-up later in the evening.

Is there a lot of paperwork? Is it worth the hassle and time?

It is completely worth the time!! We use it each trip. All you do is fill out the green slip and off the package goes. Then stop by the guest services at the end of the day and show them your copy. That's it. It beats carrying all that stuff around all day!

For long day trips, this is the way to go. No hauling your packages around, stuffing them into ride vehicles with you, leaving them behind somewhere by accident, it's great! Before they brought this service to DL (it had been at WDW for years and I used it all the time), you had to snag a locker for your stuff. The only thing is they won't let you add any personal items to the bags, they just send the items you purchase. So it still could be locker city for you if you need to stash an extra coat, etc. but totally worth it!

Thanks so much! Do you know of any restrictions on time? For instance, how late can you use the service?

Also, is it a madhouse to go pick up the packages at the end of the night?

They will keep them until park close. I'm sure they will stay open a little later to allow guests to get there to get their stuff. And each time we go we use this service and it has never been busy at all. As a matter of fact, I have only ever had to wait behind one other person, once in the past four trips.

On our last visit they would not take packages to the front. We had to do this ourselves and drop them off for pickup later that night. I hope this was just a problem they were having that day and normally the park stores will take them up for you now!

In June they told us that they do not do this anymore. They also told us we could take it ourselves us there and pick them up later that night. But they said it's not something they offer anymore.

That is crazy! What's the point then in even still doing that much? If I am on the other side of Animal Kingdom I don't want to have to walk all the way to the front just to drop off a package that I bought! Looks like I may be buying less then. I don't feel like carrying big bags and purchases all over the place.

If you are staying in one of the hotel properties they will send it to your room. Well worth that.

In January I was told you can check your own packages at the newsstand, but you have to take it there yourself and pick it up by close. I opted to have them sent to our hotel (we were at DLH) because of this.

I just never liked the idea of having it delivered to the hotel during the next day. Maybe it's the little kid in me.

Since we stay onsite we just let them deliver to the hotel next AM we carry virtually nothing while in the parks.

I have been working about 16 hours now and was trying to think through AK at DL...it just did not compute but it took awhile.

Here's an odd question... will they deliver treats/snacks back to your hotel room? We're planning on doing a little special snack/treat every night in our hotel room. We're going to make it a quest to see who, between my mom & I, can find the best treat for that day. Sounds silly, I know but the parks will be closing at 8:00pm while we're there so we have to find something to amuse ourselves.

Anyway, if we find a few samplings at the Pooh's bakery place, will they box up the treats and have them delivered to our hotel room or is it mainly items, not food, that they'll deliver?

I understand, from reading this thread, that the packages will arrive the following AM but we could still get it to work. I'm just not sure how to keep treats from getting squished or melt while we're running around the park. And I don't want us to find something, wait until closer to closing time to buy it then find ourselves on the opposite side of the park.

Not food, unfortunately, just merchandise. Places like Pooh and the bakery will always put your treats in a to-go box/bag, but you'd have to carry them around. Maybe if you're planning on taking a mid-afternoon break, that'd be a good time to get your treats and drop them off at the room.

That's a good idea. We'll have my DD with us so yes, an afternoon break from the parks will be taken. Scouting our treats will be something we do in the morning... then most likely we'll eat those during our break and get another one for the evening. Oh man, what a great way to vacation.

I'd say my trips to Disneyland are always 10% about the rides, 90% about the food I have an annual pass, and the deciding factor in when I make the drive up to the parks isn't because I am longing for Disney magic, it's because I'm longing for a corn dog, or fried green tomato sandwich

It's really weird that they don't do it anymore because I know WDW still does (I used it this year quite a bit). I wonder what prompted the change?
