Package PH tickets to AP?

My husband and I have a trip scheduled for this October. We purchased a package which included room and PH tickets.

I have two additional "magical" trips booked (Dec and April) that I am going with other folks (hubby staying home those times...).
Dec 2015 with a friend
April 2016 with 3 family members (hoping for a deal-deal to come out soon!)
Both of these packages include PH tickets, but only the April one includes the Dining Plan.

So...question for the experts:

Is there any way that I can (or should??) convert my PH ticket to and AP? Would it be cost effective or more hassle that it's worth?

If it is a good idea, how would I do it? I'm a frequent Disney visitor, but never thought about AP....

Thanks!!

If you are going 2 times during the year with more than 2 days per for the 2nd ticket and 6 days or more for the other ticket it is a good idea for a A.P. You can actually also use your AP to get room discounts on the other two reservations if they come out. So for example the trip in April if an A.P. discount comes out for a room only you can convert that room to a room only rate. You can then have your friends purchase the tickets separately through My Disney Experience and add the dining plan, no problem. You could also purchase Tables in Wonderland instead of the dining plan. This is typically a much better savings for multiple trips. It includes 20% off food and alcohol for up to 10 people in the dining party. The cost of TIW is $100 but you will see a savings after spending $500 in food. Search TIW and you will find a wealth of information about the savings.

In short yes get the AP and enjoy all the savings that comes with it!

Thanks, Sammyjo199! Sounds like a good idea, then!

How would I do it? Do I wait until we arrive in October (where would I do it on property?), or can I do it ahead of time...

You can change your Dec. package tickets to APs in advance.
But, you certainly can wait to do that after you arrive and pick up your MYW tickets, if you like.
If you do that, be sure to USE your regular tickets at least one time to go into a theme park BEFORE you do the upgrade. Upgrade can be done at any ticket booth or Guest Relations at the parks, or at TTC, or at Downtown Disney.

Same price as buying APs, outright.

AND- Doing it that way will make sure that you can book FP+ for every day of BOTH of the first two trips and not worry about the complications that owning APs and booking two trips so close together can cause with FP+.

Once you buy the AP, you can cancel any other tickets that you have as part of any other resort stays.
