Package or separate bookings

Just wondering whether a package would be better for a family of 5 (2 adults 3 children) or booking resort, airfare & tickets separately is cheaper? We're not going until May 2007 and we hope to stay at the Poly. We have booked room only reservations thru WDWT and were thinking of making a package whenever the 2007 packages come out.

My sister booked everything separately last year and she said it was cheaper - 2 adults 1 child. Then my other sister says the package is the best way to go. We do have AAA. Haven't used it yet because 2007 prices aren't out yet. I'd like to know why does it take so long to get the next year's rates? I'm sure Disney knows what they're doing by now! Thanks for the info.

Just for some info, in 2005 for lagoon view Poly, 5 nights, I believe we paid $4600.00. That was w/ park hopper for 5 days. We did not bother w/ AAA or anything. I believe our airfare was around $1500.00. Hope that helps you. This was a package through WDW. (package was hotel and tickets only)

Most of the guide books suggest booking everything separately. Price the trip out both ways and see how each comes out. We did that and it was alot cheaper to book separately.

Have you thought about trying to rent DVC points? You could have 5 in a studio, for much less than Poly.....we have always stayed at Poly and love it....but we had a studio at Saratoga Springs with deluxe resort amenities (except for table service dining, but it's coming) for about $160/night with a kitchenette.

Next trip we are renting points at Wilderness Lodge.

It used to be quite a bit cheaper to book things separately, but I priced it both ways for our 2007 trip and it's very close (within a few dollars) to book the package. I think this changed with the MYW thing.

We did look into this. It sounds like a really good deal. We really want to stay at the Poly this time. If we did do this I wanted to try VWL or BCV probably. One thing about renting points that "bothered" me was that someone else is in control of my vacation and the fact I would be basing our vacation on trusting someone I don't know. Guess I have trust issues. :confused3 I guess it makes me a little nervous. I'm sure theres way to protect us and our vacation i.e. renters agreement (?), but I'm still uneasy about it.
