Okay, so we neither own a Family Truckster nor are we driving to CA. We are, in fact, flying out on the 15th for a final week of vacation before the boy genius goes back to school. To avoid being the guy that eats a ton of food at the potluck but never cooks anything I decided to go ahead a register myself and post our family's adventures as I've enjoyed reading everyone else's posts as I've planned the trip.

Speaking of planning the trip... there will be more on that particular nightmare later.

The cast of characters:
Yours truly - This trip started as a family vacation back to WDW for Thanksgiving week for an early celebration of my second 39th birthday in early December. As the Disney fan and way too many trips to remember them all veteran of the family, it was my job to do the planning which was all well and good until the local school district changed the calendar and dropped from 5 days off over that week to three, and the FDIC took over the bank where I work (still working but the end is near and no more paid vacation time). The trip would now need to be shortened and/or moved, and the budget would need to be adjusted. Done and done, so now it is so long WDW and hello a week in CA with airfare and hotel rooms all booked on reward points (FREEBIE!) and five-for-three park hopper tickets.

DS7, Will - The trip was also going to be a late birthday celebration for the boy genius whose birthday is in early Novemeber. Instrad this will be his first trip to DLR (he has been to WDW on a week we did in the fall of 2005 for the food and wine, Halloween party, etc.). He's also looking forward to a visit to Legoland (before he gets too old to enjoy it; his father however does not expect to ever be too old himself)

The rest of the crew - For the last two weeks the rest of the crew has proved to be a revolving cast of yet to be determined players including some, but not all, of the following:

DW, Amanda - Has gone from going to not going at least 17 times in the last four days. Current status: tickets booked (except park hopper), but currently not going to be able to make it.
DMiL, Patsy - Back along the lines of best laid plans, this trip was originally going to be the three of us and my mother-in-law as we took my mother on the trip to WDW a few years ago (even though we have him outnumbered it is always nice to have an extra pair of eyes and hands around the boy, plus the grandparents get such a kick out of seeing him enjoy himself, plus we get to sneak in more adult time). However, she is (as I type this anyway) officially out as the DW will most likely be a DNP (dressed but Did Not Play) this trip.
DM, Becky - Since my mother retired from teaching this year and things were already booked she gets to step in for another all expenses paid (most expenses paid anyway) extravaganza.
DM+1, Dianne - This is a close friend of my mother's, another teacher (not yet retired), who went with us on the trip to WDW. She had never been before and has no kids but really enjoys hanging out with the DS. Turns out she's never been to DLR either, so were up to five (maybe four, maybe five, definitely-maybe four).

For those of you who have not already lost interest, there's more to come...

We arrive mid-afternoon on the 15th and have dinner reservations at Hook's Point that night. Since we are staying off-property, I was planning on using the time before and after dinner to check out the Disney hotels. I've seen pictures here of the remote control Jungle Cruise boats. Can someone tell me exactly where they are located.?

1:46 PM on August 9th is the officially recorded time that planning for this trip became no longer fun. I will spare everyone (myself in particular) from going into the details and instead move on to something that I hope will be a lot more more fun. In addition to my earlier question about the remote control boats at the resort, I have a new quandry...

My plans for the trip for 4, was 5, now 3, included purchasing five non-refundable tickets to the Fantasmic dessert festivities on Wednesday the 19th for the 9:00 PM showing. That means that I have two paid tickets looking for a good home. I am looking for a fun and creative way to give these away.

I am hoping for some suggestions from anyone who reads this. I want to make sure that they go to someone who will be in the park that day and able to use them (I would hate to see them go to waste), so that rules out promising them to the first person who replies to the post that probably also means tracking me down someplace that day. I've never done the show before, and I'm a little sketchy on the logistics beyond picking up the tickets that morning and getting in line to get my party on the list prior to show time.

I'm leaning towards giving the two tickets to the first person who spots me in the seating queue with the only requirement for keeping the tickets is that they stay in line with me and tell whoever comes up after them (as politely as possible) that they were the first ones there and they already got the tickets. I know it isn't particularly creative or fun, but it does seem effective and assures me that the tickets will get used.

Since the tickets are for a week from today, I will be posting on the regular Disneyland forum details about how to find me and get the two free seats some time later today.

In other news, we needed a safe, central place to put our etickets, hotel confirmations, etc. so I snagged a POTC folder from my son's back to school supplies. I joked with my wife that I should take a picture and post it on the board. She didn't get it until I showed her some of the other creative planning books I had seen here. We don't even have family scrapbooks as big or as detailed as some of the those things. No matter, at least I got the 5 days for the price of 3 tickets actually purchased before the offer expired.

Anyway, if you're interested in finding me on the 19th for the two free Fantasmic desert package tickets keep an eye out on the regular Disneyland board for a post later today.

Bummer - we will be a few days too late for the F! tix!

Anyway, the boats are right smack in the middle of DLH - they are next to the Bar (Lost Cove or something??) - very easy to see. I am also pretty sure that they are right by Hooke's Point. :)

The remote controlled boats are on the Disneyland Hotel property. They are across from the Never Land Glen. This is in the area by the Lost Bar and the Arcade. I would go to the front desk and ask for a map of the grounds. The map they gave us at check-in had everything well labeled.
You could also check out Bumbershoots latest trip report. She took some pictures of her and her family playing with them. The pictures might help you.
Hope that helps.

Good luck with your plans for your trip!!
