I'm completing my final packing list...woo hoo! I love lists! Well, I am a Virgo.

Should I pack a jacket or sweatshirt for our August trip? Or is it a waste of space?

Hi,

Unless you run into a tropical rainstorm or you get cold in air-conditioned restaurants, you won't need a jacket or sweatshirt!

You can always buy one at your resort's gift shop or in the parks.

I would pack a sweatshirt or a long sleeve t-shirt, I know in the Hoop de Doo Review it's freezing!!!! We always pack one pair of pants and one sweat shirt, even if we don't use it I like to be prepared. :thumbsup2

I have been to WDW so many times in August and I dont think I ever once needed a sweatshirt. The one thing I would suggest to bring is an anorak. Its kinda like a poncho and a jacket mix....its the same material as a poncho but you wear it like a jacket and the cool thing about an anorak is that theres a giant pocket on the front and if you turn the jacket inside out, you can stuff the jacket into the pocket. Its lightweight and easy to carry with you to the parks and is a must for shower hour!

I bring a jacket because the restaurants are always so cold!! But if you don't mind blasting A/C, you can probably do without one. :hyper:

Seriously, it's like 90 degrees by 8:30 in the morning...

I do recommend a lightweight long sleeve t-shirt to cut down on the sunscreen (I hate the stuff) and a broad brimmed hat and sunglasses...

The sun will get you...

Steve

I bring a very light sweatshirt to wear in the restaurants. I get very cold with the AC.

Good grief! Why in the world would anyone pack jackets and sweaters when leaving for a vacation in Florida in the summertime? LOL

Leave the jacket at home. You won't need it anywhere.

Enjoy.

simple answer no, but there are always exceptions. Your best bet would probly be a light wind breaker if you fel you will get cold.

We have these as well and they work great. Easy to pack and carry, they keep you dry during the frequent afternoon showers and are perfect in the areas where the AC is on overdrive!!

Depends on you...My DGF gets chilly if the temp is below 80. It routinely gets over 100 degrees here in the summer time, and she always carries a light sweater with her, in case we go in somewhere where the A/C is cranking.

Yes, thunderstorms are very common. I did Navy Bootcamp in Orlando Florida Aug-October 1987. Definitely count on thunderstorms. They're normally quick storms which helps to cool things down. Our family also have the anorak jackets which we take with us on every trip. They're light weight, fold easily into the pocket and can be stuffed easily into small bag. I can attach mine to my hip bag. You can get chilled in the air conditioning of shows, restaurants and indoor attractions especially if your wet from rain.

I'll probably bring a lightweight little zipper sweat type jacket. it it extremely lightweight (almost see through), but with me wearing tank tops....i know i will get cold in the restaurants, so I am bringing it for that.

I'll just do with the poncho for the rain, i am not bringing my roll up rain jacket, even though it folds small.

I packed each of us a sweatshirt last Aug thinking we might need it in case of a cold restaurant but they never came out of the case...no way I was going to lug them around for a 1 hour meal! The less you can carry the better because it's hot from the moment you get out of bed, in fact, when we hung our wet bathing suits on the rail overnight they were still damp in the morning because of the humidity! :sunny:

The restaurants are often chilly with the A/C cranked up on high. It doesn't bother DH, but it is often too cold for me.

I nearly froze at the Coral Reef a few years back.... it had rained and we didn't have ponchos, so we got really wet. That was the most miserable experience of my trip, and our 1st table service ever. We had always done fast food. We went to one of those shops near WS and they didn't have any ponchos at all. Is that bad luck or what?
