Hey there,

No I am not trying to bring a pole to WDW (they may be banned on flights now lol!) but my packing situation has changed and I am looking for opinions. Originally I was going to bring along my laptop to download audio and photo files to and also to watch movies ot TV shows on while flying and doing layovers in 5 (yes 5 total) airports. My birthday however changed that. I now have in my posession 2 256MB photo cards each holding roughly 200 photos or 30 min video and a 1GB photo card which holds roughly 900 photos or 60 minu video. I also now am the happy owner of a digital voice recorder that holds 16 hours of audio. Do I still need to bring the laptop? I will have more than enough storage on my cards and will have my PDA with (it's glued to me, I record finances, carry park maps on it etc.) which can do most functions of my laptop (only no DVD player obviously) But it would be nice to watch things that I don't always have time to watch during the college semesters (I'm in Organic Chemistry - yuck) What do you all think?

It can't hurt to bring the lap top. :) It sounds like you kinda want it with you.

I don't know. I am thinking of bringing mine to keep tabs on my business and post trip reports..... I am worried about leaving it in the room during the day - and don't want to lug it around. What do other people do with it while they are in the parks?

I personally would leave it. It's called vacation for a reason...take a break from reality for a bit and just enjoy yourself in a place you don't get to be in every day. Reality will always be there when you come back home.

Oh no! I just tied the vote! I voted to leave it. Even though it would be nice to download pics, I think I would be too tired at the end of the day to surf the net.

I bring my laptop everywhere I go - nightly before I hit the sack I check email, upload photos for added security (I had a friend who lost her camera at WDW 2 years ago on the last day of a 10 day trip with all their photos from the trip on the card - gone!), email family and friends a few photos or trip update, and we use it to watch movies on flights/waiting at the airport etc.

I just really never want to haul it around. I would be nice to have, but I find every time I bring it I regret it, and never use it as much as I think I'm going to, especially at WDW. It just sits in there taking up valuable souveier space in my luggage!!! ;)

You should have a third option - 'don't have one.'

But I would not bring one - we're too busy enjoying WDW to spend time reading what other people have to say about it.

:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Being the owners of a business, we don't have much choice but to bring the laptop because we must stay in touch.

Nonetheless, I think we'd still bring it because we've found it's great for watching a DVD on the flight, reviewing the digitial pictures we download off our cameras each day, and playing music while we're in the hotel room or on the balcony. Laptops are hardly just for surfing the internet!

I own my business, too so staying in touch might be important. Can never tell. Where do you leave your laptop during the day?

Sometimes I take it, sometimes I don't. Depends on my mood when we're getting ready to leave. :)

My advice, though, is to take it and study your chemistry. Organic Chem was one of the hardest (if not THE hardest) classes I took in school. And I remember none of it. Couldn't tell an alkene from an alkyne. :) (Don't think I could even draw water! OK, I could do water...but not alcohol or ether!)

Good luck in o-chem!!!!

I'm personally taking mine... the safes in Pop are big enough to hold a laptop during the day so that's where we're going to store it. We're not even concerned with going online or anything like that, but it'll be nice to start with a fresh clean card every morning since we don't have a lot of memory cards for our camera. You can always see if your resort will have an in room safe if you're concerned about placing it somewhere while you're in the parks!

We've taken ours on our last few trips. We use it to upload out photo's everyday and send a 'daily slide show' of photo's back to our friends and family. The in-room safe is plenty big enough to stash a laptop when your not in the room, however we were in a DVC villa the last 2 times and just left it out on the table. We didn't even think about storing it away, since we only had mousekeeping once while we were there.

I too own my own business, so a laptop is a must for me. I bring mine and leave it out on a desk during the day. It may be dangerous (though I do this everywhere I go), but it is insured, and I back up to my iDisk to protect my files on the machine. Everything else is accessed through my VPN, so those files stay secure on the office server. I don't worry about it too much.

I would bring it. We like to look at our pictures at night. So even though you will have enough card storage, it's nice to be able to see your pics on a larger screen than the camera LCD. We have always left ours out in the open and never been concerned about it at the hotel.
