Pacemakers..

Okay, my family, grandparents and I are going to WDW again next year. My grandpa has a pacemaker and I wanted to know if there are any rides unsafe in any of the parks for him. Please reply.

You made me think of a story I heard from my doctor. He was telling me that his associate...also a doc...went to WDW with his grandmother...early 80s. She went on Space Mountain and ended up in the hospital a week! Now, you have to wonder why a doc in his early 40s would take his grandmother on that ride!

Not a story from WDW but a number of years ago (sometime in the 90's............maybe 96 or 97) my dad went with a senior's group down to FL. They did Universal and WDW. While in Universal, my dad went on Back to the Future. This ride banged him around so badly, he hit his chest. He noticed that evening when he was getting changed, a bump directly above his pacemaker! It was a bit sore, but he continued on with his vacation. The lump was still there when he got home about a week later. He makes an appointment with the cardiologist and the doctor is totally floored. That jarring ride and hit to the chest cause the wires to his pacemaker to pop out of the device and the lump on his chest was actually the wires sticking up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He was immediately admitted to the hospital to get a new pacemaker.

I don't think rides like Space Mountain or Big Thunder would hurt the pacemaker (as long as his heart can take the rides! ) but I would advise him to stay away from things like Body Wars or Star Tours...................Dinosauer.................things that go bump.
