I am walking the 1/2 marathon with my DH. He is then doing the full. I know that he must come in at 3:30 for the half to qualify for the Goofy and we already know that he will probably have to leave me. My pace is about 16.5 with some sprints in the 15. I know I can complete the miles since we just did Space Coast but since I messed up my knee I am concerned.

My question is if I maintain a 16.5 pace will this keep me in front of the sweepers and still qualify me for a medal . Would this qualify me for the Coast to Coast medal if we go the Disneyland in Sept. ??:confused3

Thanks for the help.

it all depends on the buffer between you and the last person crossing the start. In isolation you would need to cross the start about 6.5 minutes in front of the last person crossing the line to assure that you cross the finish in front of the 16 minute pace.

Now for the better news, you really only need to stay in front of that person through mile 10ish. No guarantees but in general, if you pass mile 10 in front of the sweep pace you are good to go as long as you are moving. A better place for that to happen would be mile 12 as you are off public streets and I have never heard of a swept runner once off public roadways.

Now keep in mind that you must have an official finish for the C2C. You can have an official finish but it needs to be in front of the sweep runner, - i.e. you can get an official finish slower than the 16 minute pace as long as you beet the sweep pace. Look at last year's results to get a good idea of what I am talking about.

Finally, your DH must push on to assure a sub 3:30 chip finish. I would hate for him to come in with a 3:31 chip time and fail to get the Goofy medal. I think they WDWM will be watching the chip times closely since they have abandoned the wrist band method of assuring a finish in both races.

Kathy, sending you pixie dust for your knee. Hope it works out for you. Are you able to train right now?

Susie - Yes I am training and the knees don't feel bad.:cool1: Those rolling hills and off camber just did me in.
I will start and see what happens. I think I should be okay. The pace is what gets me but coach said if I am off a little it should be okay
