PA State birth Cert. question

I am in the process of finally doing my passport, after 5 cruises I figured I should get one.
I noticed my birth certificate is very basic though, and wondered if that is how some just are? It list my name, date of birth, county & city, and sex.
That's it, no parents name or anything else. Normal?

it might be "normal" depending on when it was issued. I know now they put the parents name on them also... I am not sure if mine have my parents listed. I dont think I ever took notice.

Mine also has parent's names, birthdate, and where they were born- this is from 1970.

I am from PA. I just got my passport this past September. My birth certificate is very basic also. It does not have my parents' names on it. Same as yours, name, DOB, county, city, sex. It must however; have the raised seal on it. I had no problems with it at all when I went to the PO (Greensburg) to apply for my passport.

My old one didn't have anything except my name, dob and sex. When NJ changed the requirements for driver license they decided mine was no longer any good. Even though I was over 40 had used it to get my original license get marriage license and passport. My original says Baltimore City Health Department, Notification of Birth Registration and has a seal. I had to get another one from State of Maryland that one does have parents names, ages, their place of birth. Probably each state is different.

Thanks for all the replies! I was born in 1970, the cert. I have says it was issued in 1975.

I got my passport about 1 1/2 years ago with the basic birth certificate you described. I could not find my original so I had to order a copy from the state. Of course, I found it afterwards.

Sondra,
Just make sure that it has a "raised" seal on it. As long as it does, you will have no problem.
BTW....passports are going up very soon so you may want to put the pedal to the metal to save a few bucks...lol. Also, not sure where you are getting your passport but be careful where you get your passport pic done. Some of the pics do not "fit properly if done elsewhere and you will have to pay to have it done again. If applying at the PO, your best bet is to have the pic taken at the PO.

my birth certificate is the same, just basic, no parental information on it at all.

Since I am nothing like my brothers and sisters I used it to inform them I was adopted, hehe. But that didn't work, since even though our personalities are not alike in any way, by our looks there is no doubt we are blood relatives.

Oh that means nothing! I'm on my 3rd certified copy...the last one I got was issued in the 90s. "Original", when it comes to birth certificates, simply means a "certified copy of the original information". No one has the absolute original b.c., because that is what is filed with the registrar's office and kept under lock and key. The first b.c. a parent gets is the "original copy". And if they are made of disintegrating paper, as it seems CA b.c. are made of, any further certified copy from the registrar's office is just as "original" as the first copy.

All b.c.s are different. In WA, it's extremely simple, basic info, typed in large font on a fancy paper, with a swirly *stamp* as the certified mark (with govt notary's sig inside). My CA b.c. looks like a form, not fancy, but it has ALL the info one could ever want, and it has a raised embossed seal. All legit!

I am the last one in my family to get my passport, but when another diser posted about the increase in price, well that was enough to get me motivated!

Man! That is basic! DS' birth certificate (the certified copy from the state, not the fancy hospital one) lists the attending who delivered him, where he was delivered and then all that basic info plus info on my husband and I (where we were born and when).

It is possible to get a PA birth certificate with more information on it. We had to do it last summer when my kids and I decided to get Irish passports. They required a BC with the parents' names and places of birth, which the state provided.
