P90x is hard!!

We got it for Christmas, and I am really surprised at how sore I am. And it's only day 2! I am healthy and relatively fit (or so I thought). The only exercise I usually do is running. I can run 5 miles without any trouble, so I thought I'd be a hot shot at P90x. Wrong! I always thought running was "enough," but obviously I have been ignoring a large amount of muscles!

I'm happy with my body type, but I am doing this to help motivate my husband to get fit. He's very overweight, but he checked with his doctor, who okayed him for P90x. He's actually thrilled that he's doing it. So I figured I'd do it with him.

We end up laughing hysterically as we try to keep up with the people in the DVD. Superman to Banana... now faster...sure!

We discovered that it is MUCH more pleasant to do it with music/prompts, and not listen to the guy yack through the whole thing.

So, anyone have success with this? I'm hoping to be so cut by April, I'll be unrecognizable! :rotfl2:

My cousin did p90X hardcore before her wedding. She's about 5'7 and went from 140 to 117 and looked amazing.

From the way she described it to me, I know I would never stick with something so intense, but, done correctly and consistently, you definitely get the promised results.

If P90X becomes too intense for your husband, I had great luck and results with My Fitness Coach on the Wii. It progressively adjusts to your ability levels, keeps track of our progress, and is effective. I get a great workout from it, but don't feel it is nearly as terrifying as my cousin made P90X out to be.

I used to do P90x and yes, I muted the guy's voice too. It was irritating.

It is hard. I was sore for days too but it was a lot of fun at the same time. I couldn't keep up with the video either. It will get you in good shape though if you keep at it along with a modified diet plan. Good luck!

I love P90X. I am a runner also and definitely know running alone is not enough. This program will whip you into shape quickly, especially if you're following some sort of meal plan with less carbs and more protein.

My husband and I were using it for nearly two years. While I am not a runner, I walked an hour a day at a very brisk pace. P90X is killer for the first few months, but does get easier. I didn't lose any weight at all--then again, I didn't need to--but as with you, I did it with my husband who felt he needed to lose and get into better shape.

Unfortunately, my chronic colitis flared in the summer and I got out of the habit. It has been really hard to motivate myself to begin again. I know I should because I really did feel the fittest I had ever been after using the program.

BTW, we too opt to mute Tony! :rotfl2:

superman...banana...superman...banana.... love it!

I will be the first to admit that I'm not in the best shape and need to lose some weight. The first time I tried P90X, I thought I was going to die....then he said we were done with the warm up. Ugh...it was terrible (but it was actually fun at the same time). I got out of the habit due to the flu last year and never got back into the habit.

I recently learned that there is a beginner version of P90X called Power90. My BIL and SIL told me about it. I think I might start with that this go round. Its not quite as intense at P90X but still a good workout according to them.

My husband an I did power 90 last summer and really enjoyed it. I got him P90X for Christmas last year and he had a hard time getting through it. It's definitely harder. Insanity is the next level. My brother did insanity and said he was soaking wet after the warm up!

dh and I both did P90x at the beginning of last year. It was very hard, but does get easier day by day. It is a great workout.

My exercise routine this year will be either:

Treadmill

--- OR ---

Richard Simmons "Party off the Pounds"

Yes, I enjoy Richard Simmons exercise routines. The music is great, and he is always so cheesy. He makes me laugh. And if the people around him can do the routine, with some of them being very overweight, I can do it. It is great encouragement!

My DH has been using P90X for a few yrs now and loves it. He is in really good shape though being in the military and all and likes working out in general. I have a tried a couple of the work outs and not found it so fun at all, :rotfl: I will do the sit up routine every once and while but I only do the sit ups I like :lmao:

OMG banana!!! I laughed so hard trying to do these!

If you follow the meal plan, and just stick with it through the whole program you'll definitely see a change! It's hard not to get discouraged sometimes when you can't do as many as those ultra ripped people but just keep going!

Tony Horton haunts my dreams :scared1:

So glad to find this thread!

My husband and I also started P90X this morning. Despite the date it is not a news years resolution - we've had it for almost a year and life kept getting in the way and finally we decided enough is enough we are doing this thing!

So maybe it is kind of a resolution.

Nevertheless, we've started it and it is hard but I really like it. I am a runner already like many of you - I've done the Wine&Dine, the Princess Half and the Disneyland Half all in the last 14 months and have pretty good stamina, but yes the muscles have clearly been neglected.

I am doing the "Doubles" plan because I have marathon plans down the road. Hubby is doing the standard because he just wants to lose some belly. I just joined TeamBeachBody.com to help us be accountable and get custom meal plans, and I would love to connect with any of you who are on there also as BUDDIES. :) My screen name there is FiockFamily.

I am really hoping for some fabulous results come April! :)

And also -- WE ARE GOING TO DISNEY IN 20 DAYS!

Hugs all.

- Carey

P90X is hard but, soooo cool, workout wise! I started it (the first time ;)) about four or five years ago, got about 3/4 of the way through and - as is my norm - stopped. (I have issues completing tasks, I find :P)

Did I see results? Some but, not quite as much as there were a few days I skipped a few things and also because I wasn't eating right. I ate what I wanted and that's not a good idea. My deltoids are still slightly visible from it and I found the whole program to be fun... however, it will get boring. At first Tony is funny, after a few weeks you wanna throttle the guy. My suggestion? Put him on the mode that tells you when to start and stop and have your own music playing in the background.

Sadly, first time it wasn't so bad... Second and third times I started it my body was like "Wooooah, NO!! Die... die... die..." I was having issues getting through things I didn't have issues with before.

I think it's a great program and a near close to perfect one at that - Cardio/Weights and ways to modify if you can't get through it. I also like that you don't HAVE TO do 15 reps if you can't. You do what you can, track your results and move on.

TRACK YOUR RESULTS!! You'll be amazed at what you can do in just a few weeks.

My biggest issue with P90X is the Plyo program. I hate it. ;) Maybe, I just gotta re-think it but... I hate it. ;)

As I mentioned earlier, I stopped this past summer because I was ill and could not physically do it for a few months. I have resolved to get back at it and started last week. I'm easing back into it by only doing it a couple of times a week and using my treadmill on the alternating days as well as every morning.

I agree with your post (except the part that finds it fun ;) ) and I wholeheartedly agree with the bolded--I did Plyo tonight because I am a glutton for punishment I guess! Frankly, I didn't appreciate any body changes until I stopped and I can kind of feel my thighs getting a bit chunkier--hopefully I can get back to where I was in the program before the short break. :bitelip:

I dislike Plyo.... two reasons, my floors are the original wood (house built in the 30s) and when I hop around it feels unstable. 2 - Shin splints!! I am embarassed that a guy with one leg does better than I do. LOL!!!!

Disc 1 - Back and Chest also annoys me. It's VERY hard if you haven't worked out or just don't have the strength for Pushups and Pullups gallore. AND YogaX should be 30mins shorter. All the other discs are a blast for me. I LOVE Core Synergistics and Kickboxing.

Keep Pressing Play!!
