Update:

Sarah had to see him at the play last night. He told her that only she & one other person know the truth. He wants to keep it that way and "plans on dropping the act" when he gets to college!!!

He has NO idea how much he hurt her

But why start the act in the fist place? I'm so confused by the whole thing.

I have to agree with Lisa, Sarah needs to drop him like a hot potato.
Is there another guy, even a friend who she could ask to prom? I would hate the see her waste another millisecond on this guy.

I think she should let him know how much he hurt her and their friendship!!

Update:

Sarah told him that she didn't want to go to prom with him. She asked a friend (they have to buy tickets in pairs) and they're planning on going with a group of 6 kiddos. She also decided that he wasn't worth any more of her time and that she would only speak with him in casual/group settings.

I'm so proud of her. She's bouncing back quite well all things considered.

So happy that Sarah is doing well. You know, in my mind there is an issue that this young man is dealing with. Is he unsure of his sexuality? What is sad is that he has perpetuated this "lie" for so long. I am not convinced that it is a lie!!
He may need some counseling, one way or the other.

Cheryl I'm glad she dumped him. I feel so bad for her and know where she is coming from. I was betrayed by my HS BFF (also a boy, well 2 boys and we were all friends) it broke my heart! I have not spoken to them since shortly after graduation.

I hope some day he realizes how badly he screwed up.

I know, I'm not sure what his deal is. We're hoping that he'll get the help he needs. I've always seen him as a good kid, but, this is just really strange

You know, that was the first thing I thought - which is the lie - and really IS it a lie or ambivalence in the kids own mind? Seems like it's much tougher to be a kid now days -

Ok, I'm coming in a day late and a dollar short..

but I'll tell you from a mom in the same shoes having a teen daughter...and also having 3- teen boys..

Teen boys suck!! When they lie..they want everyone to help them keep the lie..why...because they can't remember the lie they told to begin with 95% of the time... As for this young boy.. .he needs to really grow up... If he doesn't want to date in HS..then just say "I don't want to date currently".. He is going to get a lot more understanding being honest than hefrom carrying on with this lie for years.. Talk about having no respect for his friends or himself.. He is being very, very selfish. Sarah doesn't deserve that.. best to tell him to take a walk in the other direction...


Anyway, as for Prom.... I hate that they have to buy in pairs.. that's awful.. we buy individual tickets..and of course if you are going as a couple you can buy both tickets or go dutch, or whatever the kids decide... My DD went last year with 12 of her friends... this year the same 12 girls are going again and adding a few more.. .They all said the boys were a pita and it's too much drama trying to get things organized when boys are involved. They wanted to have fun! Now, will they meet up w/ the group of boys they run with.. yup...but we all know that... I hope Sarah goes to Prom and has a great time...

Both my girls are going to prom with a group of girlfriends Sarah decided that would be much more fun I really wish they could each just buy their own tickets, but, I think the groups have their "pairs" all worked out. Thankfully both my girls would rather hang with boys just as friends at this point

I may make them get dressed up and take photos with her on Sunday! (this is the 2nd year they have missed photos with her from prom)...

I need to touch base w/ PJ again and see if one of the dads are renting a passenger van again to drive them to Prom.. that was so nice last year.. .One dad rented it and the girls all chipped in money for the rental and gas (and his dinner)... It was one less worry about teen driving downtown...

that's a great idea for the van!!

I went to my SR Prom with 3 other GF and we had a BLAST....you don't need no stinkin' boys to have fun!!! we all went to dinner before, parents bought us our flowers, danced with each other or would dance with the occasional boy!

So glad to hear she is doing better. She has made some very mature decisions about how to handle him in the future. Hopefully she will be able to enjoy prom and the rest of her year.

I agree that buying prom tickets in pairs is outdated in the day and age. Let the kids enjoy their proms without having the added pressure about dates and such. In our district they rent coach buses to take the kids to the prom. They all meet at the school, have a little parade for the parents and then off they go. It is so much easier and less stressful than worrying about who's driving where. Plus we get to see everyone all dressed up!

Ugh, I went with a boy, we weren't dating but we had decided like 2 years before to go together. They (the boys) got a hotel room and everything, I called my mom at 10:30 to come get me, I was so not playing that game!

Hi! This is Sarah, which is why I'm using my mom's account. First, to clear things up, we Can buy singles tickets. But last year's prices were $70 single and $110 couple. So it's cheaper for friends to pair up.

Second, Thank You all sooooooooooooooo much for the advice and Pixie Dust! It's really helped a lot in the past few days.

And Whoever came up with the Phish Food Idea... I love you very much
