P.O.T.C. On Stranger Rides! The Missing Chapter,,Final Thoughts,, Preview Thoughts.

Great dissection Pkondz! :thumbsup2 I sure am going to miss you guys!

Thumper Man, I like the song! Great job! :thumbsup2

Alas, I would be at Disney right now, but DS is sick with strep throat, so we will have to live on the edge and survive MK for 24 hous another time. I couldn't leave with DS being sick.

So this morning we had an extremely thick fog here. I found myself thinking about the blown tire and thinking that I have to agree with one of your recent posts Nebo. Never, ever say things can't get worse, because this fog had to be a relative of the beast that followed you on the trip. It was the worst I have ever seen or driven through. :scared1:

I made it to work, but I had visions of Nebo level accidents dancing in my head all the way.

So, no surprise here, I hope you will have some sort of TR for the April/May trip. I would love to hear about the "Flower Power" concert series that will be going on during your trip. Well, really, I would like to hear about anything from your trip.

Thanks for taking the time to write this TR Nebo. It's been one heck of a journey.

It went by fast, didn't it?

Really, it was the beginning of October when I was telling you about Smidgy having to put her ear next to the tire valve to let me know if it's still "hissing". That was almost 5 months ago!

40 chapters.

Geesh!

I'm sure you can also believe that I changed my mind about ten times on whether or not to even do a report, with Diane's daddy passing away, the whole idea seemed insensitive to me.
But it gave us then a chance or opportunity to talk about him as well.
And of course, their were just too many strange and odd things that happened that ,,even though they made for a crappy trip, when it came to writing about them they were
Trip Report Gold!

At the end of a report, I usually give a call out to some of the trip's characters that made contributions to the report,, like Turtle lady, pompous New Jersey guy or pool cleaner guy,,, so, hmm, ok, I want to thank the Splash Monster, Crabby Hall Lady and of course, the Yellow Jackets.
And naturally, metaphorically speaking, the Beast.

As for the tire:
I took it back to Goodyear where I got it still with the hunk of pottery imbedded in it, and the guy actually thought he could save it, all it would need is a plug and be good as new, cost me 20 bucks.

Of course as I'm waiting for them to fix it, he comes back out in the emergency room waiting area, "Mr. Nebo, can you come back in here please?"

Once he had gotten it off the rim, he found out that the inside lining had all shifted, and now there are "bubbles" that cannot be fixed or made to go away, bottom line is the tire is shot.

But I can order a new one and give you an even better deal than originally.
I refrained from saying how come he didn't give me the best deal in the first place, but I know they need to make a profit too, and now he's just being nice after what we wen't through.

He got and replaced the tire the next day.

I then got curious;

I dug out the receipt from the Car Care Center from Disney and handed it to him to look over, "Tell me, does this seem like the price for what I got was in your ballpark?"

He said it was, "Pretty close", but he then said "Didn't they tell you that the catalytic converter is probably still under warranty?"

Turns out there was a law passed quite a while ago, that all cars equipped with a converter sold in the states have to last 8 years or 100,000 miles.

I was off the next morning to my Hyundai dealer to yell at them and get more info.

Right before we left for vacation, this is where I brought the car for the re-call work to be done. They also did a 29 point inspection and replaced my power steering line that was leaking, and a differential that was going bad.

All that was fine, but I took issue with the fact that no where in the "inspection" was it noticed that the exhaust system was about to go and fall off.

The service dept. manager saw my point, but said really, if the mechanic was to start pushing and pulling on the exhaust and it went bad, he would have been blamed for it.
"I can show you the undersides of any car in the lot out here, and they will all look the same,,, dirty, rusty, and with exhausts that look the same,,,,meaninig that an exhaust that is going to fall apart next week looks just like one that will last another 5 years.
I couldn't really argue with him.

I then asked about the warranty on the converter and he said, oh yeah, you need to call the Hyundai central office and they will more than likely re-imburse you on the price for that at least, that warranty is good for 8 years.

"Um, 8 years , starting from when?" I asked him, already with that sinking feeling in my stomach I am getting so familiar with.

"The day it was titled, the day you drove it home since you bought it new."

Pretty sure of my answer, I asked him to punch my name into his computer and see what that day was when I pulled it out of their parking lot.

'February 26, 2003."

"So, your telling me that the catalytic converter with the 8 year warranty expired 7 months ago?"

He nodded and looked down at his shoes, "Sorry, central office won't be able to do a thing for you."

So, in summary, NO money back for the converter, No cheap way to fix the tire, once again I had that carrot dangled in front of my face only to be whisked away again.

Ok, now let's do a quick summary:

Smidgy really saved the day when she took over driving on the state road , I don't know why at first the idea seemed just too ridiculous, I have to remember to be more open to things that don't immediately sound like a good idea.

Concerning where we stayed, which did I like better?
Animal Kingdom Lodge or Bay Lake Towers, my choice would definately be,,,

The Caribbean Beach Resort.
That's right, even if the prices were equal, I'd rather stay there than the other two.
I suppose I like AKL better than BLT, but I don't get any great pleasure looking at a horse with stripes, the entire wild animals in your backyard thing last about two hours for me, then it gets boring.

Honestly, for me? I'd rather be overlooking the Boardwalk watching people walk by and do the things people are known to do: laugh, trip, fall down, argue, fight, throw up, all that to me is much more entertaining.

And BLT really does seem to much like a Miami Beach beach hotel, decor is numbingly plain, I didn't care for ANY of the pool associated with BLT or the Contemporary, with 15 story buildings next to them, how exotic can they feel?
Yes, the walk to Magic Kingdom was convenient, notice I didn't say, "nice". Boardwalk or Beach Club to Epcot is "nice".

What I/we, really regret, is that our friends with the DVC points , well, the points really arent' good for the mods or values, they aren't available for the values, and they cost a TON of points to stay in any of the mods, not sure why, you can stay in Beach Club Villas cheaper than French Quarter.

Yep, when i'm at Disney, I still want exterior corridors and a staircase, I hate to constantly be dependent on elevators.

One thing I sure hope you all realize,
is just how appreciative I am, and have been, on all of your help and contributions to this thread. I really
considered it to be a joing effort on all our parts, and that's
what made it a success in the long run.

No, this time I am not going to name names, I always end up leaving somebody out accidentally and I don't want anybody to leave here feeling left out or sad they weren't included.
But you all know who you are and I'm hoping you will just eaccept my love and appreciation for your time, both reading and posting.

By the way, if any lurkers have considered popping out to say hi, please do, you really won't have more chances, here and I love to hear from people that were just too shy to post anything. Go ahead, make my day!
Please.

But boy, am I going to miss this too, that smiley Thump's wife just posted is me to a tee, I just get such a thrill, yes, thrill,
when I come up with a dumb line or joke, or a pun bad enough that I just know Ponzi is gonna cringe for sure.

This all brings us now to that famous phrase, "Ok, now what, what else is on?"
Like when the movie is over but you're not quite ready to go to bed.

I guess I'll keep this open for a bit longer and tell you what I know about the upcoming trip, I really hate "pre-trip reports", especially when they have their own cell block, they aren't allowed to fraternize with the real trip reports, and I don't want to do another "double" like last year, that just get's too unwieldly, and long, and too confusing to new people that might like to read it after they have heard about the great Ponzi and Thumpers and others that can really liven up a trip report.

All righty now, we'll stay right here a tad longer and talk about April/May, then maybe just do a shorty and I'll tell you about the highlights of the trip. But there really won't be time before it would run into the August trip, and as we have said many a time, THAT is the one that we are most excited about, finally going with our grandson,,,, and son and his wife, that we have been wanting to do for what seems like ever!

This may sound maudling, but I don't care:
We never know when someone's last day will be, so love
them with all you've got, and let them know it. Even if you're not the
demonstrative type, tell them anyway. They may be embarrassed, or you may be, at the time, but when they are laying in bed that night they just might remember,,,
and smile.

We lost Grand-daddy while we were gone this trip, and now we
are starting over with Jackson in August, and these pictures from last year just seems so fitting:

And, of course, Jackson with his great grand-daddy.

Well, once again, my brain has gone numb, I guess there's nothing left to say that hasn't been said.
And you know what?
I'm already dreading having to come up with a name for the next trip report!
Yep, true story, I just hate that part cuz it's so important,
at least to me.

Ok, that's it, good night, see ya tomorrow, or soon, and I'll tell you about the next trip coming,

but do me a favor tonight, say a prayer, and mention Diane's dad in it, or better yet, refer to him as Granddaddy, we did miss the funeral, and this talking about him has helped.
And please, don't forget to tell him where you got it!

smidgy and nebo...... steve and diane,,, hugs

And so the end has really arrived.... sigh.... Glad you're leaving the trip report open. Keep posting and making us laugh, write a trip to the grocery store report if you have to :lmao: Good words about loving your loved ones while you have them. :littleangel:

Wow, Nebo, I'm really sorry that you are done. Please put me on the list for notification about the mini trip report for the April trip. Better put all of us on that list.

Getting to read you and Ponzi duke it out has brought real joy to a tough time in my life. Thanks!

And, of course, Jackson with his great grand-daddy.

We will comment more tomorrow. Tonight is about Granddaddy. :littleangel:

Prayers will be sent tonight from the Thumpers.

Alas, I would be at Disney right now, but DS is sick with strep throat, so we will have to live on the edge and survive MK for 24 hous another time. I couldn't leave with DS being sick.

Thanks Buzz. Hope your DS is feeling better soon.

:sad1: So sad to see the end of another Nebo and Smidgy adventure. Glad you both made it through that last part. That's a huge fear of mine (especially since I had kids). Great driving!! Although, I kept thinking as I was reading of that line in Mater's Tall Tales, when Mater is telling Lightning his "tall tale" about them jumping the Grand Canyon Evil Knievil-style and as their going off the jump Lightning says "Well what happened?" and Mater says to him "You didn't make it." Google "Mater the Greater" and see if you can watch it on You Tube or something, if you haven't seen it.

Anyway, after all the trouble with the car this trip, I bet the Aluminum Tube of Death doesn't seem so bad for the next trip. Hope it turns out MUCH better! Maybe you could just do a quick synopsis for us, instead of a full on report. That'll tide us over until the big one in August. (And I'll really be looking for it by then, as my trip will be just around the corner!)

Jackson is so darn cute - thanks for sharing the pictures. And so too is Granddaddy! That picture will become even more precious as time goes on. My grandmother wasn't too well when either of my kids were born, so there aren't many pictures. But the ones we have mean the world to me.

Take care of yourselves and each other! Will look forward to hearing from you again soon!!

Dang, it's over? I am once again about 3 chapters behind :sad2:

I'll catch up Friday when I have a day off. In the meantime, could you pretty please start the next one? Well, OK, you can wait till after Friday when I catch up. I know, I'm nice like that :)

By the way, if any lurkers have considered popping out to say hi, please do, you really won't have more chances, here and I love to hear from people that were just too shy to post anything. Go ahead, make my day!
Please.

This would be me! I have read every one of your TR's through the years, but I don't think I've ever posted. So, thank you for the many hours of entertainment you have provided.

I have to share with you what I call my Nebo coincidences. First, I, too, love my blue Santa Fe! Well, I did until it was totalled two years ago, but I had it when you first started writing TRs. I now drive a red Kia Sorento which is pretty much the same.

Second coincidence - I can't remember which TR it was, but one of the posters posted a picture of 'Nebo Package', a liquor store. Well, my husband is the liquor/beer sales rep for that store.

Third coincidence - I live just outside of Carrollton, GA - that city you drove through and stopped in briefly on your way down this last time. I knew right where you were. I am in Carrollton nearly everyday, so I couldn't help but wonder if we crossed paths and didn't even know it. Of course, I am sure I would have recognized you and Smidgy. Can you imagine stopping in some rural Georgia city and having some crazy Disboard fan running toward you and wildly scremaing "Oh my Gawd (that's how we spell it in GA)!!!! Nebo! Smidgy!"?

Anyway, thanks again for making my day many times. Can't wait 'til the next one.

And, of course, Jackson with his great grand-daddy.

for some reason, I couldn't copy the picture. anyway ... this was THE picture I was talking about. my sweet loving daddy. who I rarely heard say anything bad about anyone. who didn't swear or use racial slurs. always gave me the best advice. was patient, kind, loving, an honest Christian man.

and Jackson, so handsome and smart, kind, well behaved. and I can't wait to show my favorite place to!!!

since my daddy totally trusted Jesus Christ's complete work on the cross as payment for his sins, I know my daddy is in heaven right now. and I know I will see him when my time comes.

but for NOW!!! I cant' wait for this may trip with my hubby, me sweetheart, and I cant' wait until august to see the look in Jacksons eyes!!! and see those dimples when he smiles!

and I look forward to a trip in the future with our first little princess, kaylee, and the young prince mason, who will turn 1 in march!! we are truly blessed.

you guys know more about us than a lot of our every day friends/acquaintences.. you are our very dear friends.. kiss hug... love you all..

By the way, if any lurkers have considered popping out to say hi, please do, you really won't have more chances, here and I love to hear from people that were just too shy to post anything. Go ahead, make my day!

Nebo ~ I have been a "lurker" on your trip report! In fact, I was in DW the same time as you and posted once that I would say hi to you and Smidgy if I saw you two. I never saw Smidgy, but I might have seen you? Let me try to refresh your memory and see if that was you.

Did you go to the UK in Epcot without Smidgy and sit on a bench in front of the stage where the Band plays and listen to them play? I can't remember which day it would have been. We were there Sept. 11th-18th. I saw a man that I "thought" might be you, but chickened out to say anything! If I would have been 100% positive it was you, I would have said something, but I just wasn't sure and that made me nervous!

Dear Smidgy, please accept my condolences in the loss of your dear Father. He sounds like he was a wonderful man, wish there were more in the world like him! My DD passed away when I was on a cruise in Alaska in 2002. I was with my MIL who needed to get away after losing my FIL a few months earlier. Only difference, my Dear Mother wouldn't let anyone tell me until I got home!! They waited for me to get back to have the funeral. My DH was back home and I would talk to him and ask about my DD, but he never told me! Poor guy was a nervous wreck!!

So AWESOME you guys are going back soon and then AGAIN this year!!! How special that you will be there with Jackson on his first trip!! Jackson is a cutie patootie, for sure!!

I will close by saying, I am so glad you guys made it to Florida and home safely!!

Awesome pictures! May Grand Daddy rest in peace.

Thanks for letting us share the ride with you. Like I have said in the past, you guys share the good and bad and keep it real. That is what keeps us comng back for more. Personally, I feel like we are one big family here.

So sad to have it all come to an end but so happy to hear that you are going to keep it open and allow us all to keep it all rolling.

I can't believe it started in October. Man did that go by quick. There was nothing better for me, especially over this long crappy winter, to go in each day and read not only the TR but also the quotes from all of you. It really helped me get through a lousy few months.

Thanks to you and Smidgy for keeping it real and I look forward to weighing in some more on whatever keeps rolling on this TR.

Jay

Wonderful trip report. It has been such a pleasure to have something fun to read each day for the past few months.

Your grandson, Jackson, is adorable. I'm sure you'll have a fine time with him in WDW, but make sure that you and Diane are the ones to take him on some of the really fun rides. In 25 years, when he takes his kids on those same rides, don't you want him to remember and say that his grandpa or grandma were the ones to take him on that ride his first time? They were loads of fun, his grandma and grandpa.
Let his parents take him on the lesser rides... the ones nobody remembers.

Hey, what's everybody doing 28 years from now?

Hopefully I'll be at WDW. Want to come along? By then we might all need ECV's to get around. We can rent some and go driving around hitting people's ankles, honking our horns and demand we get special treatment.

Seems like yesterday, doesn't it? Thanks a lot M-man for all your contributions, it made my job a lot easier.

As Dionne Warwick and Friends sang (and no edit this time. The words speak for themselves):

Keep smilin'
Keep shinin'

Knowin' you can always count on me
for sure
that's what friends are for

In good times
And bad times
I'll be on your side forever more
That's what friends are for.

:grouphug:

Well friends. I guess this is the end of another great TR. Look at the bright side. At least there will be another one in August. Maybe 2 if we can still convince Pkondz to write a TR. :rolleyes1 Even though DW and I are going at the end of the year, I don't think I could be as creative as Nebo and Pkondz. So I doubt I would ever write one. Lady H has the college degree of the house. Maybe I can get her to write it.

Bummer about the tire and converter. When I read that part, I was hoping you would end up getting your money back. Still think you should've at least gotten a new tire, without having to pay for one.

Adorable pictures of Jackson and grand-daddy. If you recall, I lost my grand-dad last year as well. I know how precious those pictures are. I have very few of them, but the few I have mean the world to me. I'm glad you shared the story about grand-daddy with us. Never easy to lose a loved one. I hope talking about it helped ease the pain. We're all here for you and grand-daddy will forever be alive in your hearts, thoughts, dreams and prayers.

Enjoy your vacation with Jackson. Oh yeah, and your son and his wife to. Since we only really heard about Jackson, kinda forgot they were going along to. :upsidedow When are going by the way? I know it's in August. Just don't remember the exact dates. Lady H and I will be in DL late August. So if you do happen decide you want to start a pre-trip report, we'll be absent for a while. Possibly. We would be some of those people you would consider, keeping up with the times. We have smartphones, so we can follow along over there. Most likely during the times we're making drinks in fuzzy cups heading down to the pool. We'll get there and say "Hey, lets see how the TR is coming along." Anyways have fun on vacation. Both vacations actually.

Here are some final parting words in true T_Man style. Ok, maybe not my final parting words. I'm sure I'll post a few more comments, but I hope you enjoy. I borrowed this from Roy Disney and Mickey Mouse. Its the announcement from the "Kiss Good Night." (Cue music: "When You Wish Upon A Star')

A few years earlier, I had taken the Mensa test that was in Reader’s Digest. I passed. Trying not to brag or anything but it’s important for the story that you know.

Anyway, this guy was ‘showing off’, I suppose, for my benefit. He asks me if I’ve ever heard of Mensa. (Geez,. I may not be as smart as brilliant boy here, but many people have at least heard of it.)

I can already see where this is going… one more boast, coming up. <sigh>
There’s a time for politeness… this wasn’t one of those times.

So I say, “Oh yeah, I know about Mensa. I wrote the test a few years ago, but I’m not going to send somebody $50 just so I can carry around a little card that says I’m smart. I’m not that stupid.”

He sheepishly replied that he had a membership.

Several years ago (read 20) my mom and I were waiting around for her kiln to turn off so that we could go on a shopping trip. The Reader's Digest was open on the table so we started going through it together, one question at a time, and whoever had the answer to the next question first answered. We passed with flying colors and finished in record time. Since it took two of us to make a genius, we thought separately we must be half-wits.
