When it comes to checking in, for some reason we either get Ghandi behind the counter, or Nurse Ratchet.
There is never any middle ground.
Today, we got Ghandi/Liberace/Frodo.
Once there, Smidgy got on the phone and call labbage and went
to meet them by the car. ( Yeah, my mind can never decide whether it wants to use luggage or baggage so it always comes out in combination form.)
This really makes it difficult when writing the report and trying to remember what happened on what day.
"Holy cow, we just had dinner at 8 in the morning!"
And one morning the sun rose and created a stunning "dawn" right when Magic Kingdom closed for the Halloween Party.
But this room is an enigma, as far as views go, it's got it all, so I decide to put the camera in
video mode and turn it on right outside the room.
Once again, not sure how this will work here, but
you need to have the sound on to hear my lovely voice in the narration, and click on
the picture to start it, I believe.
No, I don't believe this video is going to go viral over on u-tube.
This view only worked out cool because of the corner room effect. Right out the regular window by the door is a wooded view, walking a few rooms down where the trees parted is the parking lot view, and the other side of our corner is the pool view.
Plus, the stairs down to the pool were right around the corner and down a bit.
Plus, plus, Right around the corner before the stairs is the ice machine room, I counted a total of 15 steps from our door to the ice machine.
This is from 'inside' our room looking out from our bonus window:

Let's see what else I can find from by our room;

I was now like a little kid, no way in the world am I going to waste desperately needed sunshine time putting away clothes and stuff, besides, this leg of the trip is only for 3 nights, I'm not even going to unpack everything, just what I'll probably use. If I don't unpack enough underwear, I'll just use Smidgy's.
(just to see if you're paying attention)
But my mind was still racing from all the resent events and I wanted to talk, walk around, look around, explore, and then most of all I wanted a drink!
I am usually happy just to be by it, reading, soaking up the
sunshine and just plain soaking up the atmosphere until I end up really soaking in sweat that I go in. (aren't you glad I shared that with you?) Do they have a "Code Sweat"?
Which brings me to another issue:
Since my new eye problems started since our last trip,
it has gotten to be much more difficult for me to read, a lot of the time it's almost a chore now.
Especially if I try to look up from my book or newspaper at something else and then try to go back to reading, the re-focusing can take a while, it's not an automatic thing anymore.
Then, there's one more thing that I just mentioned:
In the past, whenever I got antsy I'd walk over to the designated smoking area,
it was something to do, and sometimes I'd strike up a conversation with
some strangers, for some reason it felt like I was accomplishing something. Before I got the hearing aids, I used to dread it cuz I wouldn't hear them.
But now It's really cool, I no longer run away from situations that used to terrify me because I couldn't hear.
And I go and ruin it all by quitting smoking!
No, it's not the same now, without smoking.
Even if I did walk over there, I don't want to smell it, I'll only want one,
and you look and feel like a perv hanging around a smoking area
when you aren't a smoker.
Yep, I had a feeling things were going to be a lot different this trip, I just
underestimated the smoking stimuli I was going to encounter.
And from the beer I brought down for Smidgy, she was now
under the same pressures she told me. She's always been a "drinking" smoker, really only smoked when she was drinking.
(Here's the part where if I were a snarky husband I would include: "so she smokes 24 hours a day" but I'm not a snarky husband)
As for me, I was always a "breathing" smoker, I only really smoked when I was breathing, so I smoked 24 hours a day.
(ok, so I AM a snarky husband, I'm just snarky to myself.)
All the scary driving stories make me glad I live out here in no weather land. We did have a tornado watch a few years back. In true California fashion parents poured into the school office to pick up their kids and drive through the storm because as we all know driving through a huge storm in a car is much safer than leaving your kids at school. Now I may not be all that smart but it seems to me that may not be the best idea. Besides out here when they have to evacuate an area for an emergency or natural disaster they usually send folks to the nearest school.
Try driving at night in the rain with cataracts, tons of fun!
Don't need any drugs to see shining lights glittering all around and blinding you while not being able to see where the road is. Yep, that's the ticket!
Luckily, I got that fixed finally. Still dread driving in the dark though.
hhmm, but now that I think of it, I SHOULD have used that as my excuse of why we didn't have the cheddar wurst he was looking forward to.. I didn't forget it! someone STOLE it!!! that's right,, left everything else, but went through our cooler.. left the beer, but took the cheddarwurst! (that's how good it is!) darn! I missed my chance!![]()
When it comes to checking in, for some reason we either get Ghandi behind the counter, or Nurse Ratchet.
One flew east, one flew west....
Now I'm just going in one side of the pool and out the other:

Well when you can't see, it's always best to just go in a straight line 'til you bump into something. Then turn around and try a different direction - like those toys we had when we were kids

And what a freaking cool bonus....to hear the voice of Nebo!!! It was a little like the Darth Vader scene reveal..."Luke, I am your father" for me. Awesome, really, really awesome to hear the voice behind the writing.![]()
!
okay, queenbetsy, you got me on the dolcet. I looked in up, and it wasno in my dictionary.(like from the 50's!) however! dolce was, and it is from Music, and says sweet and pleasant.., gently...
oh, gack!!!
actually, when we were divorced, I was so used to talking to him at lunch time, and I would sometimes call him at work at lunch (with some excuse or another), just to hear his pleasant voice.
now I'm making MYSELF go GACK!!!!!
Awwww
one thing Nebo didn't tell you about because, up until now, he didn't know about it.
when I got to the room I called for luggage. they said he will be at our door in about 10 minutes. after abut 15 minutes, I told nebo to go ahead and go down to the pool while there was still blue skies. after a bit, the phone rang. they said the luggage guy was down by our car. strange.. he was going to come up, I thought. I got down there, and the driver side door was WIDE open!! I asked the luggage guy "It was like this when you pulled up?" he said "yes, that's why I had them call you to meet me down here. I didn't want to leave it alone like this." yikes!I tried to start the car. it started whew!
guess nebo ,in our rush to grab some stuff and get to the room, forgot to close his door. but, nothing was stolen, the car started, all was ok, so I saw no need to "needle" steve with this news. what good would it do?
hhmm, but now that I think of it, I SHOULD have used that as my excuse of why we didn't have the cheddar wurst he was looking forward to.. Thanks for the update and congrats on the great room. Sounds like a perfect spot. And very cool to hear the voice of Nebo! Not exactly like hearing the voice of God, more like hearing the voice of the Trip Report God!
The room was the best, so cool to run up and down for stuff when you're at the pool.
Oh and I have Jay Cutler as my starting fantasy football quarterback this week as I left Ben Rothlisberger and his 5 td's on my bench! This is about as ugly a first quarter as I have ever seen! I mean how many false starts can one team have on one drive? UGH!!
Jay
I was hoping that the smoking itch wasnt going to get too bad, its always been a part of your trips. Hope that it got easier for you the longer you were there...great update with a great room!! I think that is the first video I've seen you take on a tr. Can finally put a voice to the story now!
Nice pictures. Never really explored the mods. We've stayed value and explored the deluxe, but never either stayed at or wondered around the Mods. Our first stay is coming up the end of October at POFQ. (Now I can admit I really just posted to mark my place as the "first unread post' is not working for me on this thread.)
Oh, I am relieved that I am not the only person who encounters this weird mix of persona at check-in. I can not begin the count the number of times that I have had a really interesting person at check-in. I have this warring fascination/dread thing going on when check-in approaches. Curiosity over what I might encounter, dread because there is no telling how long the encounter will take or what dimension it might be in. DH never, ever has this problem, so it really, really must be me.
Nope, we both go through the check in anxiety, it's amazing we do so many split stays because of it.
Oh my, the time on the camera issue is hilarious! Seriously, I love your examples!!
Unfortunately, I hd to replace the batteries again once half way throught the trip, and I think this time I got the date right, which also means that there's a part where one day actually almost lasted for two!
I'mm so confused.
Oh my gosh!! You and Smidgy hit the motherlode on the room at CBR. I think I want to tag along on your next vacation. What are incredible room location!
And what a freaking cool bonus....to hear the voice of Nebo!!! It was a little like the Darth Vader scene reveal..."Luke, I am your father" for me. Awesome, really, really awesome to hear the voice behind the writing.
I was always partial to, "This, is my BOOMSTICK!"
Really sorry to hear about the difficulties with reading. I know this wouldn't work by the pool, and that the pool is the focus here, but what are your thoughts about books on tape? What do you like to read?
Cant say I've ever really tried them. I did have Stephen King's The Mist on a cd with special 3-D sound effects, but it was too hard to understand, the sound was too off the wall and we gave up listening to it.
I also watched a video of the "Shenanigans" show and I watched the beginning of "Garfield Goose and Friends". I am slightly more educated than I was about 24 hours ago. I, however, want no, and I do mean no, part of the "Feely Meely" portion of the show. No way would I have participated in that as a kid! But as an adult, talk about double entendre! My feelings on that are "What happens in Chicago, stays in Chicago"!
Catch you later Chick-A-Go!
OK folks let's see if we can have Nebo's video go viral! Great room. Never have stayed at CBR but thinking that may be in a future trip if I can talk the hubby away from French Quarter.
Nice to hear the dolcet tones of Nebo on the video.

thanks for the pics and video needed that tonight. It was a looonngg day and with this new position I now have at work that usually means a very loud day too so some soothing dis images really hit the spot.. that and one of our viking friends for the back
Maybe Smidgy could weigh in? I'd like to hear about the muscles...
Great room! And that voice is pure Chicago!
Love the colors at CBR. Wish I was there right now!
If we have a code red (shooter on campus), we are supposed to evacuate our elementary school to the high school on the next block. My feeling - If there's someone with a gun on our campus, chances are, they came from the high school. My mother said, "Well, the kids at the high school will be armed. Maybe they can protect you."
